Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We would have been easy winners if Hibberd and Melksham played.

agree if Melksham was up forward we would have won.

But when Smith was tackled I didn't even notice Jetta had pinned his arms and slung him to the ground until they showed the replay. So maybe the ump didn't notice. I was more angry at Smith for just stopping and standing there.

But you wake up this morning and just feel so let down and disappointed. I do blame the woeful goal kicking. These players are experienced. They should be able to kick those. Im looking at you Christian. One day you will have a breakout out game. One day.

Leaving Preuss out was probably the right call.  Smith made the intercept defenders accountable with movement that Preuss wouldn’t have given.  Preuss may have been a big target, but all night big packs flew at either end, and the big guys were neutralised.

Great post, particularly agree with your analysis of Preuss vs Smith. I thought Smith was important last night - not just for the mobility he adds as you said, but also for the times he didn’t fly when TMac had a one-out. That’s how he got his goal - he stayed down and it fell out the back, but a few minutes earlier he stood to allow TMac to fly, which should have resulted in a mark.

He forced accountability in their defenders, which disappeared as soon as he was knocked out.

I also think the rating of Preuss around here is way over the top too. I’m a fan, but in a “now we’re not stuffed if we lose Max” kind of way. He’s a lumbering dinosaur as a forward, which makes him useless defensively. The likes of McGovern could defend against him and still peel off, all with their eyes closed.

Are you serious.

A goal to Kennedy from a free that commentators admitted wasnt there early.

A throw in the goal square for a goal in the last.

A ball touched on the goal line allowed to stand.

A player speared to the ground 20 out, straight in front, in what all commentators agreed was a reportable dangerous tackle, with the player concussed, with the WA umpire 10 metres away, in the last, when scores were tied and then allows the player to play on ahead of the mark to goal and cause a 2 goal turn around.

A total failure to pay a block or hold to any of our forwards despite it happening over and over, yet paying slight bumps or holds at the other end.

David King saying their will be a lot of anger from the Dees at the umpires and Eddie highlighting the dangerous tackle incident and calling it unbelievable.

Oh come on.

Yes we kicked poorly but we are discussing the umpires.

And to add to that list a non 50 when a wc player ran within a foot of one of our players. So frustrating after harmed getting pinged twice and being further away and not causing a my interference against the hawks.

Umpiring was appaling. We should write to the AFL for  an explanation of the Smith free.

When discussing this game there are two non-umpiring issues to bear in mind:

1. By my count West Coast had 2 best 22 players missing (Barrass and Naitanui), whereas we had at least 8.

2. They lost Venables late in the second but we then lost ANB early in the third, and also later lost T Smith and Salem in the fourth, finishing with one on the bench.

1 exacerbates 2 - it’s harder to cover for injuries mid-game when the players trying to do the covering are already reserve/back up players.

There was also a ridiculous free kick awarded to Kennendy in the first for getting out witted and out muscled by frost. 20 meters out!

The 2 games Pruess played, Maxy never rested forward at all.

Preuss kicked goals that game and played well, so a worthy inclusion any way you look at it.

You underestimate Preuss, moves well for a big man brings ball to ground can take a mark and kick a goal as he helped win our first game against the Swans. Proved to be of value. Big bodied player.

Tim can play but l feel that he is a magnate for injuries just can't string games together just one of those players  l guess. I am not comparing any player just saying Preuss was missed last night. Hurn or McGovern would have had their hands full.  A good distraction.

Time will tell how good Preuss will be.

Oh yeah, Jayden Hunt has been a revelation up forward...  hes getting better every week.  I thought he would struggle there.  Love being proven wrong , especially by exciting young talent.

Dont ever move him back Goody.

Max got a similar one in the second so it was consistent at least, no reason for Frost to make contact like that though. Couldn't believe Kennedy didn't get one paid against him when he flew over omac but didn't get near the ball, that's been paid all year. Gave him the chance to run forward and kick a goal

The argument shouldn't be Smith or Preuss....both should have played.  We lost Melksham, Hibberd and Lewis.  Last week we played against a side with 1 ruckman, this week 2.

Lets get a bit of perspective here.

May

Lever

Hibberd

Melksham

Vandenberg

Hannan

Joel Smith

Jetta

Lewis

KK

These are names who i regard as best 22 when up and firing. We win last night with these blokes running around in our side.

I think the only disgrace is the fact that you mentioned the flag! jesus christ!  we've been a bottom 4 team this season. completely uncompetitive against some very average teams. the season was stuffed at round 5 and you're talking about flags. we're a laughing stock at the moment.  last night maybe earned a bit of respect, but that'll last a week.

Did I say this year drop kick?

Sorry, I disagree on the logic. West coast are reigning Premiers. You have to respect that and take into account they would have played a different game if we had all players available. Until we beat them consistently and get respect it is just paper talk. No offence intended.

Missed 4 easy goals from inside 20 and dropped a simple uncontested mark 20 out.

Momentum killers and kept the Eagles in the game.

Nails them and we are probably 5-6  goals up going into the last.

Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but I almost feel Petracca wanted to drop that mark so he wouldn’t have to kick the set shot.

It was bizarre.

I hope he’s seeing the club psychologist because he’s so afraid (potentially of the embarrassment?) to make a mistake right now.

He plainly didn’t hear the ‘play on’ call and didn’t want to give away a 50 (when he could otherwise have a had a shot at goal), then gets sling tackled into the turf without any resistance (bloke should get a week for that), Smith’s pretty well knocked out, and they get the free. Seriously ...

We were the better team. Loved the effort. Loved the game style. Loved some of the return to form from key players, eg, TMac, Hunt, bursts from Jeffy etc. Loved the performance of the new kids wearing the red and the blue.

Hated our woeful set shot kicking. Hated the umpiring. Hated the Weagles supporters (they make NRL Bulldog supporters look positively enlightened). Hated Nathan Vardy - he should be suspended for his lack of class. And still hate the fact that we lost a game that we could have, perhaps should have, won.

Not sure how I feel - so many positives and negatives. It’s probably this headspace that prompted some dude to invent sweet and sour pork many years ago.

We can beat GWS next week.

I have to disagree with all that hate Ron but only in one sense...i LOVE this post!

Nah the worst non call was Hurn playing on from a kickout and running close to the 50m line without taking a bounce

I saw that too and just couldn't believe it. He ran 40 metres without a bounce.

Perhaps the noise of the crowd not only deafens players it blinds umpires.

Yes he got called for a block. It's not a block when Frost bumped him in the shoulder out of the way.

Anyway I fell even more deflated. Went to my local school to vote and for the 1st time they didn't have a sausage sizzle going. Nothing. Second time ins as many hours I feel let down

Unlikely IMO ABG.  More likely worrying about kicking it at the same time as attempting the mark (Focus!)

Watching the replay right now and Tim Smith played a very valuable role on McGovern. Not only that, he provided a lead up target through CHF which opened up the space for McDonald and Hunt to roam in and out. But also got onto some really good lead up grabs and dish to our running players. Pity anout the concussion. I hope he is okay for next week because i feel like he give him a good string of games and ge could play an important role.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
