Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Considering the outs and all the traveling the umpires the crowd, we did really really well. We took chances and played 110 times better than last week. Build on this.

I agree.

If Petracca, Garlett and TMac kick the goals they should we win by 4 or 5 goals.

That was a new look team and I liked it.

We were quicker, more mobile and had better agility.

Preuss up forward would have been good to help provide relief again McGovern.

Baker and Petty a big tick.

Wagner, Smith (despite brain fade), Lockhart and even Stretch were all solid.

Get a Fritsch back into the forward line, get Petracca a sports psychologist, get Preuss in the team, keep Lewis and other slow players out and we’ll be fine.

The focus this week at training should be how to pick the ball up off the ground, we simply can’t do it.

theyve had a dave williams with them for 3/4 years now.

I think O Mac and T Mac deserve kudos.

I was happy with Ginga Ninja and Petty, both showed something.

I have no idea why our senior player are unable to finish.... would have been an easy  victory.

Overall the boys played well. They just need to go one more level

The Liam Ryan mark is a result of Fritsch [censored] poor defending who just coasted behind him as Ryan floated from the flank all the way in.

Fritsch is not a defenders [censored]! All we are doing is ruining his development. Its either up forward/wing or Casey for me.

I know how tackles are counted but if that is all you can see in Yeo's and Shuey's games then you have missed a key factor.  And, how many on here wax lyrical when Oliver has huge tackle numbers.  It has to work both ways.

Sure if we had kicked straight we may have won and some non-decisions by umpires cost us.

Nonethelss, the score was 7 goals to 1 from the last few minutes of the 3rd quarter and in the last qtr they took 27 to 14 marks and ramped up their attacking game but we didn't ramp up our defence.  imv that is where we lost but each to their own opinion.

We were well beaten, from the 25 min mark of the 3rd.

The difference overall was class. Oliver is oozing it, so is Gawn, Hore and Salem both have it. Outside of that, however, and you have a lot of solid role players and a handful of VFL (at best) hack jobs like Stretch and, on current form, Fritsch. Stretch has been solid this year but if he's in your team you've got serious depth issues. People carry on about guys like Omac and Frost, but seem to forget some of the complete hack jobs that take place across half forward and the middle of the ground that constantly put our defenders under pressure, and that Fritsch effort in the last quarter leading to the Gawn hanger is the best proof: over-handballs, lazy non-tackles, dropped marks. It all returned in the last quarter after a very slick and fast first three quarters. And the biggest culprits in the last were with usual suspects: Stretch, Jones, Brayshaw, Fritsch, Garlett. I can give Brayshaw a pass for now but he's quickly becoming a downhill skier: on when we're on, but if we're off as a team his skills become a huge liability.

Even if we kick straight, eventually all of those errors and hacks start becoming a factor: they pile up, and good teams with experience know exactly when to pounce.

Melbourne of 2004-2006 was very much like that. I remember quite a few games where we would be hounded and beaten all game and then pop up for a blistering last quarter with the experienced heads popping up.

We are relying on sub-100 game players to turn the tide and win games for us. We are still quite far off having that core 150-game group that most great teams have.

8 frees to 1 to WC when WC on top, previous to that 21 frees to 13 to MFC when M on top. Paying the team that is playing in front/doing the tackling/playing the ball etc. All this whingeing about the umpires, and MFC won the free kick count (22-21). Hate to see the rage if the umpires actually favoured the opposition.

Are you serious.

A goal to Kennedy from a free that commentators admitted wasnt there early.

A throw in the goal square for a goal in the last.

A ball touched on the goal line allowed to stand.

A player speared to the ground 20 out, straight in front, in what all commentators agreed was a reportable dangerous tackle, with the player concussed, with the WA umpire 10 metres away, in the last, when scores were tied and then allows the player to play on ahead of the mark to goal and cause a 2 goal turn around.

A total failure to pay a block or hold to any of our forwards despite it happening over and over, yet paying slight bumps or holds at the other end.

David King saying their will be a lot of anger from the Dees at the umpires and Eddie highlighting the dangerous tackle incident and calling it unbelievable.

Oh come on.

Yes we kicked poorly but we are discussing the umpires.

The single worst missed umpiring decision of the game wasn’t even the throw ornthe smith tackle. It was the fly by Kennedy when he went early drove a knee into McDonald (May have been Petty) lept on his back and didn’t touch the ball, taking the Melbourne defender completely out of the contest. It was not a realistic attempt. It was early. He was more concerned about kneeing his opponent than marking the ball. The Melbourne player is down , no call and he floats inside 50 takes and mark and goals. What a disgrace.

Darling did the knee and then passed to Kennedy. Absolutely blatant..

It should be illegal to tackle a player to the ground pinning both arms. I know there’s the dangerous/sling provision, but that specific one should be covered. There’s no reason to pin both arms, you already prevent legal disposal by pinning only one arm, and it is obviously very dangerous as it prevents the player from being able to break the fall.

If we have to have a bloody rules committee farting around with the rules every year, they should be focusing on rules that are unclear or not sufficiently  ensuring player safety, rather than ones that change the look of the game in whatever whimsical way some executives think it should have.

Jetta will be suspended and if we are really lucky the umpires will admit a mistake. Wowee!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some observations:

TMAC was fantastic for the first time this year.  His marks up the ground and at the start really set the tone.

Sauce (Baker) did well.  His first few touches were excellent.  He got caught a few times, some from hospital passes, others from trying to take it on.  Much to like.

Trac is a concern.  His work rate and his groundball gets have been terrific, but his set shots are diabolical.

Jeff Garlett looks like he wants to kick off the outside of his boot and do the fancy stuff.  Kick a drop punt FFS!  That one on the run was poor thinking and execution.

Max was dominant.  No other word for it.  His hitouts to advantage were a joy to watch.

Leaving Preuss out was probably the right call.  Smith made the intercept defenders accountable with movement that Preuss wouldn’t have given.  Preuss may have been a big target, but all night big packs flew at either end, and the big guys were neutralised.

Frost played a good game.  One fumble on the line does not take away from his good work.  Loved his tackle on Petruccelle.

We structured up and played well.  Losing 3 players to concussion must be a record (4 for the match).  The loss of Salem and Smith had a massive impact.  Smith was doing a great job making their intercept markers accountable, and Salem’s delivery was missed.

The umpiring was significant.  That Smith incident was appalling.  We lost the 50 /50s all night, and that throw was so obvious and directly led to a goal.  Another incident was when Kennedy flew for a mark, pushed the Melb player forward in the contest but did not even touch the ball.  It went from that contest straight for a goal.  So many more, that it was actually a blight in the game

Was so much better to watch than previous weeks.  We took the game on, and did so much better.  Still need to fix our movement inside 50, and obviously our goal kicking, but there was a lot of improvement in what we saw.

3:6 is irrelevant from a historic point of view.  We really can lose only 3-4 more games and make the finals.  If we can pinch a couple before the bye, start getting the best team on the park, we could get close.

The AFL would be happy with the game as a spectacle.

Go Dees

Didn't watch game.

Haven't read thread. - except for Petracca copping some flak from the outset.

Watched highlights.

CP5 had a hand in more than half of the goals.

What did he do (or didn't do) to draw such ire?

Or is it just a different perspective of what happens most weeks?

Missed absolute sitters from set shots.  Dropped a mark 20 m out uncontested.  Real standout moments that cost us.  His groundball game was excellent, but the kid cant kick from a set shot ATM.  THink his confidence is way down

Missed 4 easy goals from inside 20 and dropped a simple uncontested mark 20 out.

Momentum killers and kept the Eagles in the game.

Nails them and we are probably 5-6  goals up going into the last.

He should have kicked at least 5 himself and set up 2 or 3 others. Was playing on Shepherd all night and had about 10 kg on him yet never really owned his opponent. Doesn't play to his strengths enough and for a brute of a physical specimen just isn't hard enough at the contest or the man. Proving to be a major letdown as a pick 2.

He cops too much crap here imo. Truth is He’s excellent and terrrible both. Missed two sitters one from a set shot and another a snap from 5 metres under little pressure. He also dropped an uncontested mark 25 meters out... and so from the critical angle that’s three goals and we win the game. All costly and wasteful of the good work that got the ball to him.

But he also kicked two, set up a couple more and imo is a constant threat around the ball. He’ll be super important fr us going forward just taking him a long time to really mature.

I just about threw my glass at him thru the tv last night... but im still a fan.

Remember that Margetts is a Freo supporter who hates WC, so it wouldn't have been a deliberate decision. His mother was a Fremantle politician and his partner is one of the Fyfe clan.

Jetta will get  a week. Seems the standard for that.

Margetts is 100% a West Coast supporter.

He and Daglish openly support West Coast and were ‘unofficially’ banned from umpiring the derby a couple of years ago due to their perceived bias towards the Eagles.

I think people are just frustrated that hes always an inch away from breaking a game open and can never put it together.

Last night a prime example.    He could have, and should have, been the match winner.

One goal from key forwards.

Theres the story right there.

Petracca and Garlett did their jobs with 5 goals between them

yes I am in the camp that with Preuss we win, as Maxy rests forward and could kick goals as well.

The 2 games Pruess played, Maxy never rested forward at all.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
