Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Don't worry got this, will win no problem. TMac to kick 6

As much as I'm inclined to laugh at this I could kind of see this happening. If he gets his hands working again I feel like he could kick a bag.

That said I don't think it matters if he kicks a bag I think we'll still lose, we're missing too many key players and the ones we've got aren't in good form.

Wonder if we adopt the Port model of going i50 ugly?

It stopped their intercept marking in its tracks

Jeffy, Hunt and ANB (if selected) may prove to be very valuable

Tape up fingers, boys!

Isn't that our Standard Operating Procedure? I'd be gobsmacked if we did it any other way.

Probably the best win by MFC in my lifetime, had no right to get within 10 goals after the two 15 goal thrashings the weeks before from the saints and Geelong. We got rolling after that win and were clearly the 2nd best side in the comp by seasons end, the best side North who knocked us out, lost to about the 5th side Adelaide in the GF though after kicking 2.12 in the 2nd quarter!! I fear that may have been our best chance for a flag in 98!

Awesome win, going through the stats and 9 of our blokes didn’t register a single tackle, in fact not much tackling at all in that match.

Like it.

If we continue to bomb it long (which as sure as night follows day we will) Hurn, Gov and Barrass will sling shot it back into our chaotic backline.

Bring it in low and ugly.

Port fwds bought the ball to ground , ours get outmarked or don't compete!!

No, it's not about the marking - but, I agree, our forwards must compete!

Have a quick sqizz at Port's i50s against the Coasters.... skidding, low torps, mongrel punts....anything but an easy marking option

Worked for Port

And an easy instruction to carry out:

Goody: i really liked the way port denied wc tgw easy intercept msrks with scungy, crappy, scrappy kicks inside 50 and i want you to adopt the same method.

Boys, to achieve that,  with our inside kicks the only change I'm looking for is that you don't try and kick in high and long. Otherwise just stick to how you normally deliver the ball inside 50. Ya got it?

For fans going to the game be aware that there will be none of the usual special direct bus services to the game. One has to use the regular convoluted public transport system and there is no parking at Optus Stadium. Because the game clashes with peak hour there will be no special bus services from the suburbs according to Transperth. Cancellation was very sudden. Luckily I read the local paper this morning  or else I would have been stuck high and dry waiting for a non existent bus to the game. I expect many fans will be caught out and may affect attendance. Hopefully the feral mob won’t be as big and loud as usual.

A question for Perth folk. This game is scheduled to start at 6.10 pm Perth time, being 8.10 pm on the east coast. Are you pleased to have a Friday night game which starts at this time or is the time inconvenient and you would prefer that it not be scheduled at this time?

Having predicted the Hawks and GCS win I'm prepared to stick my neck out again and say we can win this!!

In 2017 we went there with injuries to a lot of key players and a few underdone (eg Gawn and Viney).  Below is our winning 2017 team showing a replacement for those now missing.

image.png.fb632667a11db4c017da3edd7cbec4ce.png

Jetta is the one I couldn't find someone to replace him.  But moving a few players around and bringing in Wagner or Smith will round up the 22.

The point is we can field a very competitive team.  And, we are much better than the exhausted team that played in the Prelim!

My prediction:  A repeat of the 2017 game where we win by 3 pts after a miracle goal from T.Mac in the dying moments of the game.  Go Dees!

Cameron Smith, & his kicking,  would be handy around the centreline & half-forward this week. kicking away from the Eagles marking targets.

I wonder If Frost could play forward this week as a defender,  spoiling Eagles tall backs and bringing the ball down into a contest.  For us to win or halve.  Cutting back their rebounds ?

After the Hawthorn call I'm deferring to @binman

So Bin, can we get near WCE?

Yes, is the short answer.

For context I tipped us to beat the Hawks, but i will be tipping WC in this game (no surprise there).

That said I think we are good chance to get within a couple of goals (on my ESPN footytips I will picking a margin 0f 14 points - it is the first game so a margin is required) and I have a feeling we are a sneaky chance of causing a boilover.

Easy to argue why we will lose. So I won't bother.

But here are the reasons why we can win:

  • I've got a feeling in my bones (but that could be gout I suppose)
  • Despite playing poorly last week, the last gasp heroics would have built team belief and synergy, with the dees getting lots of kudos for how well drilled were at the end (which reflected comments from a number of players that we had done a lot of work on end of game scenarios)
  • Even in our losses we have been getting the ball inside 50 enough. If we suddenly 'clicked', the much discussed connection came good and we took more of our chances we might get a jump on them and kick a winning score
  • WC are not going great
  • We travel well and leaving aside the prelim horror show have the memory of last years home and away win and the TMac heroics in the one point win to give us positive vibes
  • Hibbo and Melk are big losses but ANB and Smith are both fit and raring to go, and their fitness will be important
  • Playing at night helps us a bit as it will be a bit dewy as it will gte down to 3 degrees overnight. Won't help our fumbling but will make it a bit easier to stop WC chipping it around it around and as any pressure will make marks harder to snaffle. That factor definitely helped us against the hawks (ie a slippery ball), who play a similar game to WC
  • A cold night is also nowhere near as taxing or slippery as the GC game or as taxing as the prelim last year
  • Lycett really hurt us last year and they won't be able to smash maxy (who was cooked) as they did last year even if they bring in their underdone second ruck man (whose name escapes me)
  • Omac will do his job and get 10 plus spoils
  • TMac is getting closer to some good form
  • We will definitely use Frost , Fritter or Hore in a deep sweeper role, keeping the scoring down and us in the game (on that point the bookies have the Total Match Point line at a crazy low 154.5. Even in a wet game that is low but no rain is forecast - though as I said I expect it will get dewy, but it does start at 6:10 over there so perhaps not really bad to the second half)
  • We are not expected to win and in some ways that can sometimes help teams to play with freedom, which is exactly what we need to do
  • Surely we can't miss as many targets as we did last week. Surely
  • Did I say I just have a feeling

The greater percentage of west coast morons I’ve spoken to this week are expecting the eagles to drop this game.

WCESS is rife over here in the west.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
