Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

There were rumours that Joel had OP and Saty has now confirmed it.  A quick scan of the internet and I found this:

Osteitis Pubis is a common cause of chronic groin pain in the football codes. It is an overuse injury. That is, it is caused by repeated trauma rather than a specific incident. However, it is not uncommon for a specific incident to trigger the symptoms.

Interesting that it says OP is caused by repeated trauma rather than a specific incident in light of the prima facie shocking decision to play him when injured.  Can anyone with some knowledge comment?  Thanks

Crossy pushes the rehab guys hard, at the end of the session, May got to do repeat 100's with Crossy and Bernie Vince (who is still in great nick) pacing him, and increasing speed each time, did about 7 or 8

Might need a few beers to recover from that.

I remember back in the early to mid 2000s Osteitis Pubis was just a common known injury. Anyone remember Stephen Powell having a whole year off and Colin Sylvia being affected by it in his first 2 years?

Feel like it died right over the past few yeara. Now you get the occasional one here and there.

I remember that too. Why do we not hear of it anymore? Has it been cured? Better treatment/management? Re-diagnosed as something else?

Thanks Saty. Great pictures and insightful comments.

I really like Frits and seeing how little bulk muscle am amazed at his contribution. He has so much potential and I reckon he could be a surprise packet. Also how did Stretch train, he contributed solidly again last week I thought and is improving all the time. Not likely to be a game winner but huge contributor. Trac also shows glimpses and I want him to be our Jarman,Burgoyne, type play that inspired patch when needed to keep us in or win the match.

So many thoughts on this squad that only a conversation could cover. Keep up your positive posts to prompt my thoughts

It is essentially cured because no one spends time/over used the groin kicking for goals after training...

I have been a fan but I'm going a bit luke warm on him to be honest.

I wonder however if the threat of being dropped curtails his game as he is incredibly risk averse with his kicking and in terms of  when to play on after a mark 9often choosing to hold it at half back instead of a quick kick to a free player). Which is a shame because he is an accurate, if not long, kick and good by hand.

Maybe with stretch of games he might be confident to take the game on a bit more. We need good kicks in the side, he is fit, works hard (so important at the moment in terms of getting across to disrupt or man the mark from the chip kicks to free player so many teams are using - which by the by is one reason I'm glad Baker has come in, he will chase and harry all game) and he has his chance to lock in a best 22 spot. JKH will take his spot if he can't do so.

According to wiki:

The Australian Football League has taken some steps to reduce the incidence of osteitis pubis, in particular recommending that clubs restrict the amount of bodybuilding which young players are required to carry out, and in general reducing the physical demands on players before their bodies mature.

Stretch reminds me a bit like Mason Wood. He spends 12 hrs a day at the club, but leads to him trying way too hard on the field and it ends up having a negative effect on his performance.

He needs to play a more natural game and play with instinct (be in the moment) instead of worrying too much of the consequence of his actions into the future.

I really hope he can get this balance right as I feel he has a lot to offer us.

He butchers it by foot and rarely kicks to advantage side of a contest. One of the easiest components of kicking a football. His technique is fundamentally flawed mostly by his ball drop.

He's in the team as a valued runner and his competitiveness. He is not best 22 though, imo.

I think this sums him up well. When watching Stretch I’ve often thought he plays quite robotically, as if he’s attempting really hard to stick to a system, a little hard to explain I suppose. It makes him seem overtly rigid and not playing freely enough. I’d also like to see him play with more instinct and take the game on.

He isn''t "seemily overly rigid"....he is!

I have long said his running technique is fundamentally flawed, and how he has not been given an athletics coach to work on it in the time he as spent at the club is simply beyond me.

His first 3 steps are sideways.  He doesn't run on the balls of his feet at this point.  So he is slow to accelerate, which is why he gets caught.  Then because he goes side to side, and he carries the ball with elbows straight, the ball gets moved side to side prior to kicking.  That is why he is so inaccurate.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
