Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Injuries are deciding that he plays.

If May and Lever get their bodies right O Mac wont play another game.  He will be behind Petty soon as well.

A finer example of confirmation bias it's hard to imagine.

- Oscar's one of the more reliable kicks in the team, as his DE% confirms (e.g. last week, 100%)

- He marks when the ball comes near him: last week was in top 10, this week down, but then so was everyone. He took as many marks as Viney and Gawn, who no-one seems to have noticed "barely mark the footy"

- Have a look at the 1%'ers. He's so far in front of everyone else in the team it's not funny.

Also worth remembering that for his one game back at Casey a couple of weeks back, he managed an in-the-bests performance with a team-high 22 disposals while Petty - who some here seem to see as a preferable alternative even though his one AFL game was a disaster - didn't even manage half of that.

Finally, for the last two games we've won not because we kicked thumping scores, but because our defense was miserly. It's not as if we have KPF's kicking buckets of goals on Oscar (or anyone for that matter).

But heh, happy for the professionals at the club to decide on whether or not he plays.

This is an excellent post!

I recall the thinking outside the square that came from Port when they beat em, was the "dirty ball" into the forward line, low balls to eliminate McGoverns influence. I wonder if we can emulate this?

I don't see why not JD.  What's good for the goose...

Key Eagles defender Jeremy McGovern sustained a cut above his eye against the Saints on Saturday night and could come under scrutiny from the Match Review Officer for an errant off-the-ball collision with St Kilda's Blake Acres.

Regardless of injury or not, i would hope Goodwin has the sense to rest Lewis, Perth is a big trip for a veteran.

So i though the game was utterly disgusting on Saturday night with a fantastic ending, but we were horrible, in so may areas. Billy Stretch offers the team spread.. and thats it.. nothing else, will be very lucky to keep his place.

I would like to give kudos to Frosty and Nathan Jones, i thought they were fantastic.  Gawn and Oliver Huge in the last qtr. and Hunt's game was a classic case of even if you are not hitting the scoreboard, you can have a great impact. So Changes this week, not the game to bring a first gamer into in Perth. Baker has another good game in the 2s then get him in.

OUT: Hibberd. Lewis

IN: Pruess. ANB

I think we will lose 3 through injury and I feel we might be best to swap out Keilty.

In: Pruess, ANB, Corey Wagner, Sparrow.

Out: Lewis, Hibberd, Keilty, Melksham

- Fritsch will need to stay as a backman for this week. Our back stocks are depleted, but we still have the 2 key talls, plus Hore and Wagner, Salem and Fritsch. At least we will add a little more leg speed.

- Forwardline we will bring in Preuss and ANB.

- Forward/Mid- Wagner and Sparrow for a little rotation and depth.

Honestly if it was up to me then yes personally i would have Keilty or Petty back and Oscar to the 2s. Maybe Keilty is ahead because he is much more mature and can cope with the bigger bodies.

To me Oscar adds absolutely no value to our side, barely marks the footy, turns it over by foot, has no awareness, slow, dumb and just looks like a headless chook. I saw a bloke by the name of Sam Collins do much more this year then Oscar has his whole career.

In total agreement.  Omcd was horrible again.

Wish we had grabbed Collins after Freo delisted him.  He is exactly what we need.  Big.  Strong.  Confident mark.

I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Not much in that McGovern hit. Fine at worst.

I don't think we're in a luxury of dropping players given our injury crisis. So O Mac and Garlett will survive.

Incidentally O Mac could hardly move at the end of the game so is he injured as well?

Preuss for Keilty is a straight forward like for like.

Lewis surely can't play off a 6 day break in Perth. If they can absolutely assure that Melksham can't do further damage and is at least 70% fit, then you'd think he'll be ok to play.

IN - Preuss, ANB

Out - Hibberd, Lewis (both injured)

Who arguably cost them the game against the dees.

in a game where we scored 8 goals Collins direct opponent, who has been in woeful form, kicked 3.

And at the end Collins sagged off tmac gifting him a completely free mark. Which he dropped, yet Collins could still not stop him kicking the ball of the ground for the matching winning point. Great defence. Not.

Imagine if that were omac, posters would be all over him.

Meanwhile omac blanketed his opponent.

But sure Collins is who we need.

It sucks but I really think we need Tmac to play back this week...

Otherwise Omac will need to line up on Darling or Kennedy *Shudders*

We will still need O-mac to stick around to "help out" with the resting ruckmen...

In: Pruess, Smith, ANB

Out: Hibberd, Lewis, Melksham

Lets just hope someway some how our tall forwards can bring the ball to ground and, Garlett, Hunt & Tracc play the games of their lives.

Tim Smith kicked four goals for Casey against Essendrug seconds. He should be considered.

I agree, but think we need a 2nd ruckman and don't like the idea of TMAC, Preuss and another tall in Smith up forward. Going small has served us well so far.

I really like Tim Smith, he does something that no other forward is doing at the moment, he can take a contested Mark. Lets be honest, he hasnt ever really had a good run at it.. I think he should play. So updated changes:

OUT: Lewis (rested /inj) Hibbered (inj) Keilty (out)

IN: Pruess, ANB, Smith.

Can Bull go back to take a role?

Similar size too Darling.

He has done some midfield time at Casey, so should have the tank to run with him.

Be better to have trialed it at Casey but we don't have many options.

Just a thought...

Have floated the idea of playing Smith back...

Let's see if the FD have some imagination.

I'm not much of a fan of Omac, but I have to agree that he's done his job the last few weeks.

There is no way he'll be dropped until May and Lever are in and playing good footy and well supported by Jetta/Hibberd/Frost/Salem (or other structure).

Even then he could justify his position if his form is good freeing up other options. I'd think good form is more likely if the best back 6 group is on the park with a stable structure performing well - so I'm prepared for him to surprise on the upside

Picking single plays of the game where Omac didn't singlehandedly stop an attack OR using gross (and largely incorrect) generalisations to characterise his performance is unfair

If Lewis doesn't play (either because of injury or the travel factor), it means the following defenders will be unavailable: Lever, May, Hibberd, Jetta, Lewis - arguably all in our starting seven. That leaves Oscar, Frost, Hore, Salem, Wagner and Fritsch as players who we all accept as defenders (even though many of us would prefer Fritsch to be on the wing or further forward). We will therefore need one more defender. I imagine the match committee will need to decide if we need another tall defender, in which case I expect Petty to play or a more mobile backman, in which case we essentially have no-one so we will be looking at either moving Hunt backwards (undesirable given Hunt is in the process of learning the forward role), playing Jones there (tried before without success) or trialling someone else in the role, such as Brayshaw or one of the new kids.

Yes I too am spewing we missed out on Collins. He is exactly the type of defender we need.

Collins also proves that there are players out there far and wide playing good footy at VFL SANFL level. Picking someone like him saves us giving up a first rounder for May also.

I am also not saving giving up 6 was a mistake (willing to give May time), but more so saying that there are big defenders out there that  are capable of stepping straight into our senior and playing an important role. Bit like Marty Hore who is already is our best intercept defender and someone who looks like he's played 100 games already.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
