Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I'm still having difficulty understanding why we didn't pick a fit Preuss against the Suns.

Because he wasn’t fit. Not enough for AFL, he’s been off/on injured all year. Hopefully ok now.

Agree Old dee. The only one who had a pick me game was Preuss but as posted elsewhere Essendon were very short of talls.

If Weideman is fit I would play him and Preuss up forward allowing T Mac to go back. Let's be honest we stand no chance against the Eagles unless we think out of the square. Even then we would need a miracle.

I recall the thinking outside the square that came from Port when they beat em, was the "dirty ball" into the forward line, low balls to eliminate McGoverns influence. I wonder if we can emulate this?

Well, seems to me the outs need to be Hibberd (inj) and Lewis (inj or form, choose), while Keilty clearly takes a rest. Garlett... hmm. Let's see what we have available.

Preuss is obviously in, replacing Keilty. Definitely a gain.

Tim Smith had a good day at Casey and I'd argue that we could use any marking/contesting help we can get out West.

Looks like Nibbler will be 'fresh to go' for a day of run run run.

What troubles me is we have no apparent half-back replacements for Hibberd or Lewis, unless Kolodjasnij suddenly gets a miraculous all-clear.

Keilty problem is that he is not a forward. Im sure Goodwin sees him as a forward, but when at Casey he doesnt kick enough or no more then 2 goals.

He is a defender.

If this is the case, surely this is the week to push him back.  O Mac out and bring in T Smith.

Don’t think KK did anything before getting injured to warrant an automatic call up

We need him fit and healthy for the next month of matches.

IMO,  he was held out until this weeks VFL game,  in order to let his shoulder heal,  as best it can.?

The irony is that he was moved forward at VFL level because we had surplus defenders at senior level

Odd strategy to rest him when he needs game time to build his confidence and touch?

Honestly if it was up to me then yes personally i would have Keilty or Petty back and Oscar to the 2s. Maybe Keilty is ahead because he is much more mature and can cope with the bigger bodies.

To me Oscar adds absolutely no value to our side, barely marks the footy, turns it over by foot, has no awareness, slow, dumb and just looks like a headless chook. I saw a bloke by the name of Sam Collins do much more this year then Oscar has his whole career.

Agreed.  Omcd out.  T Smith in.  Keilty back to partner Frost.

Assume Melksham and Hibberd to miss.

No way you can play Keilty in the ones anywhere. I was there yesterday and whilst he was not alone he gave the ball up most times he touched it. As mentioned before I believe he will be a player but needs more time at Casey as he is not up to AFL standard at moment. OMac was better than Keilty yesterday by heaps. Their key forwards had no impact in game so our taller backs did OK.

Can Bull go back to take a role?

Similar size too Darling.

He has done some midfield time at Casey, so should have the tank to run with him.

Be better to have trialed it at Casey but we don't have many options.

Just a thought...

Not a bad one, Casboult looked good down back yesterday

Not really...  when he played well at Casey last week, almost bog...  then miraculously was said to be sore a few days later...  a look ahead from that time, and we play the Suns on the road up in QLD,  and then on the road to Perth,  after only 6 day break.

Nrmally he would have been expected to play the Suns.  But Keilty did reasonably that week, in particular showed some smart work in the ruck. So then Weide was rested for being sore.... and here we are now looking striaght into the Perth matchup.

Spargo was out of both teams this week, as was Weide,  and someone else if I recall,  who escapes me.

Fair comments all except for the turnover by foot. His neat disposal is the only attribute he has unless you count being tall....

Reported as "sore", which judging by past experience would mean one of:

- needs a break

- is knocked around, so we'd prefer he take a break than risk an injury

- is injured, but we're not prepared to say what it is

A finer example of confirmation bias it's hard to imagine.

- Oscar's one of the more reliable kicks in the team, as his DE% confirms (e.g. last week, 100%)

- He marks when the ball comes near him: last week was in top 10, this week down, but then so was everyone. He took as many marks as Viney and Gawn, who no-one seems to have noticed "barely mark the footy"

- Have a look at the 1%'ers. He's so far in front of everyone else in the team it's not funny.

Also worth remembering that for his one game back at Casey a couple of weeks back, he managed an in-the-bests performance with a team-high 22 disposals while Petty - who some here seem to see as a preferable alternative even though his one AFL game was a disaster - didn't even manage half of that.

Finally, for the last two games we've won not because we kicked thumping scores, but because our defense was miserly. It's not as if we have KPF's kicking buckets of goals on Oscar (or anyone for that matter).

But heh, happy for the professionals at the club to decide on whether or not he plays.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
