Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Just cause he brought himself back underdone last time doesn't mean it will certainly happen again.

No, but it should mean that he hasn't earned the right to make the call.

GC at full strength aside from Rory Thompson who’s out for the year. We usually play them when they’ve got half a team out.

A few per cent off from last week and we probably lose this one.

Not quite full strength, May is out. Apparently injured...

Don't care what the odds say, I have no confidence week by week, no matter who the opposition is. The club has ground me down into a gloomy pessimist. Can only hope.

ANB was really stiff. Viney better play well we don't want to be carrying half fit players. This is the exact type of game we lose. Hoping for a win but not confident.

Really surprised that ANB got dropped. I suppose it's a positional/rotational thing, maybe Petracca/Melksham will play more minutes in the forward line to compensate and Viney takes their midfield minutes, but I thought ANB's running and pressure were good last week and that's what we want from him.

Viney has declared himself fit multiple times in the past and proved on game day to have been wrong. I hope this time he's got the call right.

Not confident at all this week. I have a feeling this is a Sydney false dawn all over again. Suns have been pretty good most of the year, matched it with West Coast over there after QRT time. Going to be a real tough game, probably good to play a side like GC because we lose this we know we are definitely not up to it this year.

The club learnt their lesson with Jack in 2017, start of 2018.  The club held jack back to start 2018 because of his approach to rehab in 2017 over the planta fascia issue.   This was also depsite pressure from Todd to allow him to play.

I trust the club on jack after last year.

This is not a comment on jack- he's fantastic, just needs protection against himself sometimes.

I'm expecting James Harmes to continue his form - create a range of scoring opportunities, and jag 3 goals. He is a fine fine player and I look forward to seeing him play live for the first time this year.

Of the 2014 draft (he was a 2014 rookie,)

Brayshaw

ANB

Petracca

OMAC

Harmes

Brayshaw and him are neck and neck with respect to importance to the team, and their influence on the game, compared to the others.

GCS have won 3 games by +3pts, +5pts and 2pts.  They have lost their last 3 games by -73pts, -49pts and -23pts.  Hardly an in-form side.

Granted, our scoreboard performances have not been much better.  But at last our coaches have tightened our game plan behind the ball and the mids and forwards are working better defensively.

The team clicked last week and I reckon it will be better this week.

We will win!

One of those games where a win means little but  a loss would send shivers through the club. I having flashbacks to the St Kilda game which in a way ended our season.

The key is that our players find form in this game and maintain dominance for the majority of the game. If we can get our forward line working.. a big "if".... it should be a 40 point win.

DJ, I'll be happy with any sort of win.  Good/ugly, big/small.

Nonetheless, it will be good to avoid a heart stopper like last week so a big margin with 10 min to go will help.

Agree, you really to have wonder about this stuff. Surely the medical staff are involved ? Sure you need the players input but a bloke like Jack is his own worst enemy. Should be rested and the decision made by medical staff and coach.  Leave it up to Jack? You must be joking.

This is a far fetched scenario. I'm quite certain the medico's have cleared him, and Goody is simply saying that even though he has been cleared, that the decision ultimately rests with Jack. Nothing else to see here.

Hope you are right Smokey. If so, Goodwin could have communicated the position a little better by stating just what you have stated as the likely scenario. My comments were one of context. We have a club decimated by injuries, operations and a dubious history of injury management. Trengove, Viney, and most recently Smith. There are also others. Players whose footy careers have been jeopardised by being allowed to continue to play with injury.

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone knows if there will be an open training session at Metricon this afternoon?

Cheers.

There is nothing listed on the MFC Website under Training Times (next session is 14/5) nor on the Match Day Information page.

Both these pages usually list that type of information so it's a good bet that there is no "Open" Training Session on Metricon today. You can call the club or reach out on Social Media to confirm but I'd say it's probably not Open.

Sorry, EO, but Harmes was a rookie pick in the same year as the 2013 draft. The logic escapes me, but the pre-season draft and rookie draft are given the date of 2014, hence the confusion. So, Harmes was picked up in the same year as Salem, JKH, Hunt and Clisby (a rookie elevation). Also, as it happens, same draft as Kade Kolodjashnij.

Really happy the dees have dodged the wet weather in Melbourne this weekend.

Wet weather exposes our skill issues ( I could not believe it last week when it started to rain right before the game started and again at the start of the second half).

Gold Coast is 24 and sunny tommorow (though weirdly the BOM still says 10% of rain) and hopefully the game concludes before any dew settles.

Of course I'd take any win, but to get some momentum, not to mention some much needed percentage,  we need a big win that features slick ball movement and transition, kicks to targets and some forward 50 marks. Bring it Dec and tmac.

As a frequent traveler to the Gold Coast the Rain predictions are never accurate. If there is a sun icon in the weather app even if it's accompanied by clouds or rain then you're in the clear.

Looking forward to seeing more of Jayden Hunt playing out of the goal square.

Yep agree! And as long as Viney doesn’t just throw it on to the boot without lowering his eyes and finding a target..

we then may have a chance

even jones showed a bit of caution last week and steadied up a few times

Completely agree with all above on the Viney selection.

Interesting messaging by the club:

Tuesday night, Injury Update: "Viney will need another week"  https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2019-05-07/injury-update-preuss-a-test-to-return-

Wednesday Lunchtime, Goody presser: "Viney still hopeful to play" https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2019-05-08/viney-still-hopeful-to-play-goodwin

Would suggest to me the medical team thought he needed another week. Hope he gets through unscathed and justifies his selection. Last chance saloon in my opinion, in terms of taking him at his word.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
