Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Shaun Smith not happy with Joel's medical treatment.

Totally agree with Shaun Smith, we are still  miles behind other clubs when dealing with injuries. Mission has been there far too long.

We also need to change our coaching staff , Rawlings has been there far to long. The club are a successful year cannot afford to be caught napping ,you also need new input , new methods to achieve your goals. I am sick to "fn" death of the quotes regarding length of time a player is going to be off for. This goes on year after year after year , sounds like we don't know what we are doing.

Good on you Shaun. Hope Goody will to notice.

How about a bit of respect for the club that gave you a shot Shaun. Understand you are upset but tell the club, not the world.

We don’t have a hope of attracting talent in the trade period at this rate

He can do what ever he wants, good on him for speaking out if he feels they are not doing what they should to look after Joel.

While in a different era, he was dealt multiple brain injuries and pushed back out to play which has affected his life.

It is up to the MFC to be the best they can to attract free agents, Shaun isn’t beholden to an organisation but to his family.

I'm just thinking: what did Shaun Smith hope to achieve by going public with his concerns?

Was he thinking it would increase attention for his son and get him more medical help?

Was he indicating that his son is unhappy and other clubs might enquire?

Did he think this might hurt the reputation of Misson?

I understand his frustration, but I don't see what positives could come out of such a public spray.

I wonder if this has more potential to damage the relationship between Shaun, Joel and the club than improve it.

Can't wait till Misson leaves.
His record for both getting the list fit and managing injuries is deplorable as far as I'm concerned.
So he had a couple years at Sydney when they got kissed on the deck by a fairy and suffered no injuries.
Problem is we'll probably pick some fool who has even less clue.
Cause that's how we roll.

However I also find it cringeworthy whenever a players mother or father come out and criticise their childs employer.

I was at a function on Sunday and Joel Smith announced publicly he had the dreaded OP, so as a consequence the Club ate being uktra conservative with his rehab

I can understand posters frustrations with Misson, nothing worse than watching him walking around training hitting wit real vigour body parts of  players with the leather cosh he hides in his tracksuit

It is a contact sport, without the prtection of padding like others, injuries happen

Unfortunately articles like this opens the door for haters on this site to spew forth from their keyboards

Did he have OP before the JLT game or maybe was something aggravated by staying on the field?

Crap. Who's the player? How was he affected? 'Coincidence but who would know....'? Is that the best you can do? An outbreak of idiocy in response to a parent's social media gripe. Get a grip.

Well well well. I was  at Casey the day Joel Stayed on the park and I said to myself "This bloke is Clearly injured why is he still on the on the park"?

If I was his manager and Dad I would be asking the same questions , Demanding answers and wanting Heads to roll!

Clearly Clearly NOT GOOD ENOUGH but oh so typical!!

The MFC FD and ancillaries obviously thought Joel Smith was expendable at the time and decided to prove it by keeping him on the ground whilst injured.

Why? Does he have a medical qualification? If he’s upset with the doctor there are avenues to complain such as AHPRA, the medical board.

I wish the Essendon parents had come out and criticised EFC about the experimental drug program.

If your son was visibly in pain and put back on the field in a practise match you would have every right to complain in my opinion.

I have no idea if Mission is good or not. Roos endorsed him so that’s all I can go on.

However I hope Pert and Mahoney are leaving no stone unturned to get the best possible replacement for him. Look at sporting clubs around Australia who have great injury recovery records and go hard after their people. Do whatever it takes. A healthy list is first and foremost in achieving success. You can have the best team, but if they can’t get themselves fit to play, they’re of no use to you.

As for Joel Smith, I’ve said enough about my feelings towards his mismanagement. I think if his name was Oliver or Gawn he wouldn’t have returned to the ground. And that’s very disheartening. If he does have OP then why the lack of transparency?

I believe Brendan McCartney referred to Joel Smith late last year as a player who he considers will be a club A grader in the future. I was a bit shocked but happy to believe.

By the time of the JLT as backline coach, Macca would have seen that May was underdone and that Lever had to have extra surgery for scar repair which put him back a few more weeks. He would have been aware of the rest of the walking wounded and I would expect he wouldnt want Joel pushing through an injury for JLT. Especially if the head coach didnt bring along enough players for the bench(!).

If there were harsh words Im sure that macca was forthcoming. Anyway Joel Smith was regarded as a prize recruit who is expected to be top ten at our club in the next few years. Well that was then, this is now.

You actually fail to articulate and see the actual concern around this matter.

Complete and blatantly missing the whole point.

Gary Pert should order an enquiry or a royal commission or something

This part may difficult, given the MFC does not hold public office. Begs the question though, what would be our brand of politics? I can imagine a lot of contested work around the house of reps, although our execution in the writing of bills would obviously be to a poor standard.

Some of them did supposedly.
Remember the mum who anonymously rang up Eddie on radio.
And I thought Tim Watson and his missus turning up to find out what the club had been doing to Jobe (the captain) was a joke.
How old do you have to be to make your own decisions again?
I must've been brought up in the wrong era.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
