Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Barrett writes:

  • "In the club's eyes, May drinking at a Richmond bar was a bad look given his poor start to life as a Demon after eight years with Gold Coast".

I found where Mahoney said the first part but not the second part. 'Poetic' licence by Barrett?

  • "I didn’t view it that way. In my eyes, the Demons' stance on May is control gone mad".   The bad look in my eyes was a football club telling an employee that he can't have a legal and responsible outlet to his clearly stressful life

I can't find anywhere where the club said that to May or any other player.  Is that 2+2+x=55!

According to Mahoney:

“Our overall approach is we treat our players like adults and the only question we ask them if they’re doing everything possible to maximise their abilities and be the best versions of themselves...“We don’t set a lot of rules because we think bad clubs and bad organisations set a lot of rules, so we just go about asking those questions and trusting our players.”

What did the club do/say that was controlling?

As Goodwin said:  the issue 'had been blown out of proportion'.  imv that applies to Barrett's angle that mfc's stance is 'control gone mad'.  Good click bait but not a lot of substance.

Disagree with you here. Harmes, Viney, Lewis, Gawn and possibly Lever have talked to the media about the issue from my recollection. Multiple players have said we have a team rule that you can't drink while in rehab.

And most importantly,  the FD and the players need to find a winning formula ...1 win against Hawthorn hasn't convinced me that we are back on track.  If we can find a way to be 5 & 7 or 6 & 6 by the time the bye comes around I might be swayed.

No, as Clarkson says the Hawks are not so great...our 2 wins are against average opposition.

...and we've looked pretty average to date.

And every loss has been an ordinary loss rjay ... we are probably already cooked but if we get over GC you never know.

But that is the supreme optimist in me thinking out loud.  We've still got enough 'active' good players available but we're slow and our game plan is easily exploited.

Above all else I don't trust our forward line nor the delivery into our forward line.

Thanks.  I heard some of them say you can't drink while in rehab.  Mahoney on the other hand said we didn't have strict rules, we trust players so there is some inconsistency there.

But did anyone say the club told "an employee that he can't have a legal and responsible outlet to his clearly stressful life"  which is the basis of Barrett's claim that mfc 'stance on May is 'control gone mad'.  I just didn't see anything wrong with how the club has responded to the original story.

I think the issue is the mixed messages coming from people within the club. Mahoney either doesn't know the team rules or is not being honest. Players have made these statements both prior to and post Mahoney's press conference.

It is a stupid rule when you have Jordan Lewis coming on TV and admitting he has and most players do drink during rehab, they just don't get caught doing it.

Jordan "Leadership" Lewis was at least honest when he stated last night on Yobbo 360, that most players drink while 'rehabbing'.

It is a farce.  Doesn't matter what is said, it is what they actually do.

The MFC are ducking and weaving in the May saga, trying to appear golden, by putting on teflon.

1. How was their due diligence with May, seeing that they off-loaded Hogan and beat their chest privately to journos when Hogan got stuck in a pub earlier in the year.

2. May apparently presented underdone.  First, the club leaked it; and then tried to imply that Gold Coast's standards were the issue.

3. The medical/football decision to put him back on the park when the game was lost, has done more to impact his fitness than any holiday he may have had in summer.  Fact.

4. The club and footy-land are tut-tutting his few beers.  Jordan Lewis admitted most players (including he) drinks when in rehab!

To me, the club stinks more than Steven May at the minute.  The leaking...the mis-management...and blame-shifting.  Reminds me back to the days when Scully was scolded for 'over-training' while at the MFC.

I am glad the Barrett and a few others can smell the rat.

The veil of negativity and amateur-hour has returned to the club.  They can feel it hovering, but don't want to look up.

Message to Steven May: go home and drink a few beers in private. The critics are  sanctimonious bastards who probably do the same every day.

Hes in rehab for a groin injury and hasnt fired a shot at his new club where is is on huge dollars.

Is it really that hard to understand why some supporters are [censored] off at him?

Yep hes been battling through a relationship break down. It has been very hard on him and no excuse but contributing factor to a few things. Roosy, the club and most journos out there know this.

The club has and is putting they're arms around him. The meeting tomorrow is a non issue

Gutter Journalism to a good bloke having a rough time.

That would explain Roosys comments that he doesn’t think footy is his priority right now.

Love how Roosy says stuff in a round about way but knows exactly what’s going on.

Funny, I don’t see you post much when we’re winning, but quite a bit when we aren’t. Do you want us to fail?

Do you...  put Oil on a wheel when its running true, and quietly ?

Or only when its crook, then oil it ?

Have you ever heard of the term,  'the squeaky wheel get its Oil'.

This is the methodology of supporters who don't trust their club Yet.  Including myself.   Its done,  in a hope that other supporters will be able to stay on guard... helping to remain alert,  against  Sub-Par  Club efforts.

Funny how my criticism is indisputable and on the mark.

When did I start to criticise the club about the Lever and Lewis trade?

Unlike the simpleton, when they occurred.

When did I start to criticise the club about their handling of Viney's foot?

When it occurred.

When did I criticise Neeld's appointment and Lyon's involvement?

When it occurred.

Did I ever clap getting rid of Howe or Dunn?

No.

I don't wait for the media to say something after the penny drops.  Unfortunately, it is pretty easy to predict the inevitable here.  You just have to stop clapping and start thinking.

I pay my memberships, and when the club is earning it, I shut up.

The HUN reporting the players had a small celebration after the match with family and they downed a few beers.

I wonder, would May have been better off claiming he was simply belatedly celebrating the win also?

I guess we are well in to the merry month of May!

Bottoms up folks...

One hopes your mangled use of metaphor is sophisticated satire, making a comment on the woeful standard of football journalism.

But i fear that may not be the case....

There can be a difference between a club rule and a team rule - the former a management stipulation and the latter more a player culture thing to likely refer to excessive drinking, clubbing etc. Possibly stemming from the four who got on it in 2017.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
