Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This is the biggest non story.

I have a cousin who played with May at the GC. He thinks May will be a dominator for us fwiw. There are team rules and common sense.

Not drinking in short term injuries for a quick turn around is fine but if you are suffering a longer injury, as long as you are not binging it makes no difference, infact it is probably good for their mental health.

i was slammed from pillar to post for saying Weid was not up to it after is break out game in the finals. He simply isn’t a good enough mark for his body size and has no tricks.

May is the opposite he will be a superstar.

Going to be a superstar??? Isnt he already 27yhrs of age. Want to hurry up.

Bring back Daniher, send all the boys on a weekend on the [censored] and let us all reload.

Let the players let their hair down I say ... all the regimented stuff stifles creativity and flamboyance.

We've got a list of players who can play footy now but I reckon we may well be getting caught up with the peripheral stuff.

And people wonder why we have an illicit drugs and/or mental health issues with AFL players.

We end up driving these young men into transgressing in private.  It ends up being their preferred choice.

Are players in long term rehab allowed to have 1 glass of red wine with a nice steak dinner at a decent restaurant?  Apparently not.

This whole silly saga is starting to amuse me Wrecker.

Barrett: Demons' stance on May is control gone mad

I don't fully agree with Purple, but I have some sympathy for his view.  I'm probably somewhere in the middle.

I can't stand Barrett but I'm closer to his opinion than the opposite.

If it had been Joel Smith having the beer, not May, this story and thread wouldn't exist.

I do find it amusing that you can't verbalise what you don't like.

Not entirely surprising.

People love to bandy about criticisms, but when they're asked to actually articulate what they mean they can't.

I'll move on.  ?

I verbalized my opinion on a piece of work quite plainly.

You seem to be somewhere else...

I met Tom Morris at the bar at the Light Brigade Hotel in Sydney moments before the commencement of the preliminary final against West Coast last year.

I recognised him (I think from On The Couch), but I otherwise had no idea who he was. I was wearing a Demons scarf. He introduced himself - he was very friendly and he said he supported the Dees. I think we both said words to the effect “Go Dees”, literally minutes before being humiliated in a packed bar of 10k West Coast supporters. It was tres ordinaire. I nearly necked myself.

Since then, I’ve come to watch Tom Morris on tv. While I don’t know him from a bar of soap, I would say that he’s probably a relatively good natured dude, and that he likes the Dees - but he’s desperate to break stories even if they are kind of weak and not in the interest of the club he purportedly supports. In short, he wants to be relevant.

That’s journalism I suppose.

Surely this story, while not especially flattering to Steven May, is not particularly newsworthy.

I.e. it’s s*#t.

I think Barrett’s article shows how out of touch he is. Barrett makes a lot of money producing crap journalism but the riches he has may have gone to his head and his sense of reason.

If you are on $700k a year then you will do most anything that your employer says because with that kind of money comes extraordinary responsibility. Steven May agreed to follow team rules and that includes not drinking whilst recovering from injury. If he is silly enough to do it in public and he has agreed to follow team rules then he needs to cop it.

What a strange little article from Barrett

May is on Big Coin and is a needed player who is injured...

he hasn’t been sanctioned, but now knows exactly where he stands

Wow, we are on page 11 of this topic. I was disappointed with May, but in hindsight, learning about his personal problems and now that he has apologized for his "indiscretion" and wants to move on, I am glad he only had a few beers with a couple of mates instead of staying home alone and swallowing some pills to deal with his problems. Let's hope he gets the support he needs from Melbourne and he can get stuck into some hard work as a way to take his mind off things with his team mates around him.

And beware of anyone with a mobile phone in their hands. They can be deadly weapons.

Except Rozee went at 5 and we had pick 6 which ended up being King, who is yet to get a game

Melbourne players and coaches reprimanding him for having a beer I can understand; Melbourne fans and AFL fans reprimanding him is depressing.

Steven  May knows what he has done, just hope that his personal problems don't affect him mentally. Not to be scrutinised now.  However give him the time to prepare and  hopefully plays well and for the reasons he was bought to the club.

Who hasn't  made mistakes in life ?  Forgiven for now.

This reminds me a lot of dartgate last year. The club’s message has basically been “we know you’re going through some stuff, we’re behind you, but please try not to get caught next time”.

I was annoyed about this at first, but no club sanction at all tells me all I need to know about how big a deal this is.

And as always, big thumbs down to the tool who took the photo and ran to the media with it.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
