Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What should he have regard for ?  Especially, as you say, he probably had no idea about any personal issues and was just reporting a story.  I assume you realise it was ''newsworthy'' ?

Work it out yourself... The Job of a journalist is to do what???

Do you think Morris fulfilled that criteria?

I don't...

You can make up your own mind

I don't really have an issue with Tom Morris per se. Just doing the job he is paid to do.

What I dislike is that really he is little more than a gossip columist. He's not a writer. Yet he is paid to write. He is a journalist, but only the sense that he is in the media. Like Sam McClure and that other gossip monger Tom Browne. All so called 'news breakers. So funny.

No analysis, no intelligence, no balance, no nuance and barely any more real research than trawling social media and fan sites such as this one. And so often reliant on club sources that quite frankly I don't believe exist most of the time.

Look at Morris' article posted a few minutes ago about Shaun Smith's comments about his son. A classic of the genre. Gossip pure and simple. Is it 'news worthy. Not in my book. It is 'click bait worthy', which like it or not is the now the key metric in media. Good journalism is terminal.

But I don't blame the Toms or the Same of this world, pretty little gold fish swimming as they do in the little AFL fish bowl, they are simply meeting a demand. Meeting the need for ever more content for all the TV shows, online sites, radio etc etc.

Click. Click. Click

Well said mr bin. You understand these concepts well.

From what I see a lot of older people (around my age) have a problem hiding issues with the booze.

Self medication is not age specific.

You're right, it never works.

The oldies more so in my opinion (with regards to the booze) ... and the criticism of the young and their supposed drinking habits often comes from the hypocritical oldies.  Ageism

And you would reckon the oldies would know better after all their life experiences.

Apparently May wasn't under an alcohol ban and he wasn't intoxicated.

So it wasn't even a story but not a good look according to the politically correct or nanny state revellers (outraged types)

Your quintessential storm in a teacup.  The players conform to our standards not the standards we want them to conform to.

I pulled beers at nightclubs in the late 80s early 90s to put myself through uni. The things I saw AFL footballers consume the night before game day make May's few pints look like holy communion.

In one instance, I saw a star forward write himself off, only to kick 4 goals about 12 hours later to win the game almost off his own boot. Lucky for him there was no peeing in a sample jar back then.

The game is more professional now, higher expectations on conditioning and rehab, blah, blah. But I highly doubt this would've got traction had there not been a photo. All about optics. Only the club (and Saty) really know what issues May has and how his rehab is tracking.

Dealt with, move on.

Sorry macca not sure what you mean here. Maxy was pretty clear on Sen that team rules are that ok as gets rehabbing don't drink.

Agree its not a hanging offence but he def broke team rules, hence his apology to the team

Sounds as if there were mitigating circumstances, hence no punishment.

Maturely handled by the club.

What I heard is that May was not under an alcohol ban (in a general sense)

So those who are playing are allowed to drink and those in rehab are not allowed to drink.  And how much alcohol is ok?

They have possibly got it A-about as I fail to see how a couple of beers could impact on a 3 month rehab injury.  It is just quite ridiculous. Nanny state stuff.

The players who do drink are going to have a drink anyway (in private)  ... impossible to police so why bother?

If people reckon that even 80% of the players are going to conform they are dreaming and need to take a giant leap into the real world.

This is the biggest non story.

I have a cousin who played with May at the GC. He thinks May will be a dominator for us fwiw. There are team rules and common sense.

Not drinking in short term injuries for a quick turn around is fine but if you are suffering a longer injury, as long as you are not binging it makes no difference, infact it is probably good for their mental health.

i was slammed from pillar to post for saying Weid was not up to it after is break out game in the finals. He simply isn’t a good enough mark for his body size and has no tricks.

May is the opposite he will be a superstar.

This stuff is so friggin tedious! About as tedious as all the sanctimony about a bloke who's down on his luck sharing a beer or two with some mates.

Two different discussions Macca.

Whatever you think of the rule for rehabbing players not to drink (or what Dr they adhere to it) the fact remains he broke team rules. The latter is the issue at hand

Why stop there?  What about the culture of Scotch College?

Dont forget the MFC threw him under a bus (leaked info about the way he allegedly rocked up and other things), instead of looking at their own due diligence and pre-recruiting processes; and medical decisions (putting him back out on the park with a soft-tissue injury).

Only simpletons think that May has everything to answer here.

Melbourne Grammar boy wasn't he TGR? Loose lips sink ships as they say TGR.

Seems to be alot of it going on whilst the club is down.

I do find it amusing that you can't verbalise what you don't like.

Not entirely surprising.

People love to bandy about criticisms, but when they're asked to actually articulate what they mean they can't.

I'll move on.  ?

How about these team rules BM ...

- Not running to position or creating options

- Our forwards continually not playing in front in the forward line

- Working on deplorable skills

- Sitting back waiting for others to lead the way

- 3 or 4 players all flying for the mark with no one crumbing

I could go on and on with 15 - 20 more examples of not following 'Team Rules' ... and it has all happened this season.

These are far more important than a player in rehab having a couple of quiet ales.

Too much about gossip and not enough about the matters that really count.  Like playing winning football.

My rating for the team this year with regards to the team rules.

2 / 10

And we have failed to even turn up in a few games.  That is what should matter to us supporters.

The rest of it is bs (or gossip)

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
