Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Steven May - drinking session

What I found really annoying about Morris On The Couch last night, apart from his huge noggin (like an orange on a toothpick), was his use of the word ample.

'He didn't have one or two beers, he had ample' something like that anyway. It doesn't say anything...ample for Tom might be a pot of shandy.

Gawn was on RSN this morning. He stated that Melbourne have a blanket rule of no drinking allowed while in re-hab. He also stated that May is on a long-term injury list and he's not even running? (seems a bit contradictory to Lever's comments but it could just be that Gawn isn't up to date with his injury).

Based on this club rule, it doesn't matter who took the photo, Morris' journalistic integrity etc etc.

The bottom line is; May broke club rules and he should receive some form of sanction or warning.

Not at all.

To say “he is just doing his job” is a cop out. He’s not living in abject poverty and forced into this life. It is his chosen profession and he embraces it with vigour. He has made a lifestyle choice to be a parasite for his own glory, financial gain, or satisfaction. He’s allowed to, but he’s a [censored] bloke for doing it.

Settle down

 A parasite?

Sheesh.

Exactly right, values in this context are subjective. Hack Morris attempting to church up the story.

Was going to post something similar.

Correct.

Whether he is almost recovered or not, he is clearly not at 100% fitness as he is no chance to play this week and did not play last week. This means he is still in rehab recovering from a 5 week injury. If the rule states don’t drink, then don’t drink. FFS how goddamn hard is it to stay off the [censored] for 5 weeks?! Our culture of drinking is just mind boggling.

He knows the rules. He chose not to follow them. If this was an isolated incident you’ll let it slide, but geez he has been incredibly poor since joining this club on very very big coin. He has zero credits to his name to say “what’s the big deal”.

It’s not about the drinking. I’m sure he wasn’t wasted and disorderly. It is about choosing not to follow clearly stated team rules which are there for a reason. If you can’t be bothered put in this minimal effort, then questions need to be asked about what sort of effort you are willing to put in elsewhere.

I really don't care what Steven May does in his own time (although I am sorry if he is going through a relationship break up), but I do care when he doesn't fully commit on the club's time.

That includes turning up to pre season unfit, getting suspended for a stupid act in a meaningless practice game, and drinking whilst in rehab against club rules (written or unwritten).

For an experienced player, who was recruited in part for his leadership qualities, he has been totally abysmal to date. Come on Steven, prove to me that you are at the club for anything other than a massive pay packet.

I read he’s not being sanctioned which I think is the right move, especially if there are extenuating circumstances.

The fact is he’s an important commodity. He’s gone against team rules/expectations so it’s a strike, but putting an arm around him is the best way to go. May at his very best goes a long way towards making us a contender.

I would be more scathing if it were video footage of him absolutely maggoted.

He could have been having a beer with a meal for all we know.

Hope the penny has dropped for him after this saga.

Post #106 indicates someone giving Morris info is an mfc issue.

Post #107 shows what Morris didn't say as well as what he did say that imv makes his reporting slanted to reflect poorly on May.

Unlike others, who find profundity in your comments, I don't think you're being rational.

You say - Morris writing this really annoys me:  "When contacted, Melbourne could not rule out either a player-led or club enforced punishment for the former Gold Coast captain".

More likely:

TM:  Will May be sanctioned?

MFC: No comment

Why is your version more likely ?  I find your version less likely.  In the first place, a MFC representative has decided to take Morris' call.  If they had no intention of making any comment why take the call ?

Clearly, Melbourne knew of the incident.  And just as clearly one of the first questions any reporter would ask is ''Will there be any club imposed sanctions ?"'.  Reporting 101.

It was likely that the leadership group would meet to discuss the situation and that that had not yet happened, so the club could not say with conviction whether there would or wouldn't be a penalty, because at that point they didn't know.

And even if in the unlikely event your version is right, so what ?  Morris reporting that the club wouldn't rule out a sanction is still on the mark.  That's what ''no comment'' means.  You know, we won't confirm or deny.

You also state: And, if as noted in an earlier post, people in the media know that May is going thru a torrid personal time and not acknowledging that in the article is really low.  He has dredged up all his recent past with us, made a big story out of it without regard for May's welfare.  All in all, he gives 'gutter journalism' a new low.

Firstly, May may not want any private information publicized in an article for the world to see.  How do you know May wants his personal life splattered across the media ?

Secondly, May having a few beers with friends isn't necessarily symptomatic of any personal trauma.  Why do you immediately draw connections with a ''torrid personal time'' and link them with him having a beer with a few mates ?  You're the one drawing conclusions here, not Morris.

You also criticise Morris for dredging up previous stuff.  That's good journalism.  To tell this story without referencing his early condition and soft tissue injuries, which led to him being in rehab in the first place, would be inept.  Once again, you seem offended by facts.  Facts don't care about your feelings.

And that's the end game here.  Morris is doing nothing more than telling his audience the facts that are at hand.  You're the one who's playing the guessing game, while at the same time stating it's ''gutter journalism''.

You're guessing that May's personal life should have been included in the article.

You're guessing what conversation Morris really had with a MFC representative.

And you're guessing why May may have been out drinking, i.e. was it because of his ''torrid personal affair''.

You're even guessing that it's torrid.  Which it may or may not be.  How would I know ?  Or you ?

Agree with you 100%, incredibly unprofessional for a player who was brought in to be a leader on a big contract to be out knocking back pints when he's still over a month away from being fit enough for senior selection. The penny dropped for Clayton when he was 19, May is 27 and still doesn't get it, its really not on.

Apparently it was pointed out to Morris about the injustice of the MRP in giving May a week for standing in front of a player and God 2 gets off , probably, for running forcibly into the best GWS ex player at TWSNBN, hitting him in the face high, causing possible concussion and elbowing to the neck/head area and trying to poke his eyes out. So Morris decided to compare the two in character. Praise the Lord..........

Makes you wonder how [censored] the culture was at Gold Coast.

They didnt give a toss if they lost as long as the party life was always available to them.

Why stop there?  What about the culture of Scotch College?

Dont forget the MFC threw him under a bus (leaked info about the way he allegedly rocked up and other things), instead of looking at their own due diligence and pre-recruiting processes; and medical decisions (putting him back out on the park with a soft-tissue injury).

Only simpletons think that May has everything to answer here.

Wait a minute, Max Gawn saying May is...

1. On the long term injury list

2. 6-7 weeks away from returning

3. Not even running yet

Either Gawn is telling porkies or Misson is. Which is it?

May was running laps and doing ball work and skills last Wednesday and Friday

May did not turn up for pre season in disgraceful shape, he turned up in Gold Coast condition, he was put right and then worked his [censored] off to get right, unfortunately his body didn't like it

He made a stupid decision, unlike some on here who never have in their life, he has learnt the hard way, him and the club will move on

Blanket rule don't drink and don't get caught, same as having a sly smoke on your way to training, you learn and move on

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
