Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Weird selection.

Jack ain’t a runner and I’m not sure how fit he is.

NB was ok last week so not sure what the reasoning is.

Also would have liked Preuss to come into the side if fit.

How Omac survives is beyond me.

How many players over the last 10 years can say they beat Roughie so badly he was dropped?

We scrape a win over the Hawks and people are suddenly melting down that ANB is dropped lol

Viney in for him is a no brainer.

O Mac is lucky to be in the team,.  Glad to see Keilty playing, showed some promising flashes last week.

I’m not an ANB fan, but he played well last week. Others didn’t, the point is why drop ANB when he played well. Wagner, Lewis are two who come to mind.

Hope Viney is fit!

Keilty was poor last week, one great centre clearance, but that was about it. Pleased to see he gets another chance as giving a player one game isn’t enough, hopefully he is better this week.

Go Dees!

Not keen on the Viney inclusion- Side much more balanced with ANB. Still scratch my head at the selection committees direction.

Anyway, time will tell.

Sporting Globe Ballarat for the game.. Go Dees!!

As long as we are being pedantic, you can be pedantic but you cannot be a pedantic. You are a pedant. sorry annoying post I know...But like you I hate the bs terminology creeping into AFL discussion. Goal Keeper, lace out, etc.

Pedantic is an adjective. I did not say I was "a pedantic", I said "I am pedantic". I shall presume you misread my post. I am a pedant as is obvious. But thank you and welcome to the club, "Pedants R Us" .

This begs a serious question.... Who played on Roughy last weekend and kept him to 8 touches, 1 goal and zero marks?? I was there but can't remember.

I thought Frost played most of the game on Roughy?

If Viney is replacing ANB I hope it's as a pressure forward.

He's been a liability as a midfielder this season...

Spot on rjay the way he has been rushed back you would think he was in great form before being injured.

Watched the the replay of last week again.

Absolutely staggered ANB got dropped. Played a near perfect game by his standards and simply didn’t deserve demotion.

But hey, that’s why they get paid the big bucks to nail team selection.

That is the crux of the issue.  He has had one good game this year.

If we are honest ANB has always been a 'bottom six' role player; a' journeyman'.  He needs to fix his weaknesses and have more strings to his bow than tackles, 1% and pressure acts so no matter how well he performs in those areas he is at risk of being the first out from the forward half.  More so now that other forwards are improving their defensive and one-on-one work.

Given that Viney is in I can't see who else to take out as the club wants to settle the side (great idea at last) and it is easier to take out a defensive forward than unsettle a back 6/7.

One more than Viney...

Maybe.

I'm not happy about Viney being in or more correctly making the call himself.  My point was given that Viney was selected, ANB was the most likely out.

That the club wants to settle the side and not mess with the midfield or back 6/7, the other options were Stretch or Lockhart both of whom imv give us more than ANB.  ANB just doesn't have enough strings to his bow and is limited in the positions he can play.  Not meaning to put him down just the way I see the merits of the forward half players.

Extraordinary call on ANB - his best game of season and as stated so well by Rusty Nails - coming off a game where his statistics make it all but impossible not to pick him!

Clearly the skipper had to come back in and given his influence in his 3 games, I would have thought Preuss, if fit, had to play as well.

When you are coming off a win, hard calls have to be made, but I just don't get the logic on this one.

Viney's a midfielder and so it made sense to remove a midfielder for him and all bar one performed Ok or better on the weekend -  Jones (what a great second half), Stretch (coming off his best game v Richmond) could not be left out. Fritta who started on wing and then played a fair bit up forward was the only one who under-performed. Fritta is a class act and had a huge pre-season but he has yet to have a breakout game this year. It's reached the stage this season where he needs to go back to the VFL and really dominant a game - most likely play in the middle so that he toughens up even more. He can pretty much play anywhere and do anything, hence there was also scope to retain him and send him to defence again and remove one of our defenders - at least three of whom had pretty ordinary games.

But alas we pulled the pin on ANB. I'd love it if the selection committee had a compulsory explanation paragraph for each omission.

ANB (out - did everything we asked of him, crumbed, tackled, kicked efficiently - normally his weakness - and ran his butt off as normal. He also plays in a different spot to our skipper, but hey we just don't like hyphens!)

Our player management has gone done the crapper. Misson has checked out to the Yukon and is brushing up on the management of ice skating and moose hunting injuries.

You are not the only one!

I am sure that most of us can see it - allegedly had a good game last week but still was not even competitive and was grossly unreliable across the game - yet he keeps being picked (what are we waiting for); as if he is going to produce a three-year overdue turn-around with his speed, manning, marking, team play, reliable interceptions, attacking clearances, etc). He is a drain and liability on what could be a very good backline, necessitating the support re-structuring of the rest of the backmen during most active plays firstly at fullback and now at halfback.

When Lever, Jetta and May return, all will be added scramblers attempting to resolve the problem when the ball is in/ is approaching his vicinity. This will leave the current deep backmen playing against an added opposition forward other than their own opponent. 'Sneak in and kick goals' has never been easier for them.

Notice how Frosty, Salem, HIbberd and even Lewis by-pass OMac when clearing, passing, handballing - he cannot attract teamwork, just lopes around avoiding physical contact. A wasted jumper.

For sure. He still looks like he has massive improvement left in him as well. Needs confidence that the position is his I reckon. He's not dumb, I'm sure he can see the OMac situation as well as we can.

Agree entirely with your view. Unfortunately Vineys style is not to ease his way back into the game, it is crash and bash from the start. An admirable quality but some caution needs to be exercised with his history.

Wouldn't matter if Viney's style was not crash and bash. The Gold Coast players will crash and bash him on that shoulder at every opportunity.

I'm surprised at ANB's omission. So surprised, that I expect him to be a late inclusion either for Viney or someone with the Mystery Injury of the Week. Perhaps Garlett (isn't there a suggestion of a hamstring problem)?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
