Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Well the purple scrap is not always correct.

This better not become a major fire ? if in fact it is smoking at all. I will not put up with more infighting.

It is “put up or Shut up time”

i want action on the field and nowhere else.

Don't worry SWYL there is no smoke.  The scrap on here is between two trolls going [censored]-for-tat to stir the pot on stuff that is 6 months old and has no relevance to us today.  Just ignore them.

This thread is great! Keep it up

IMHO... The current s#1t show we are witnessing on field is a direct result of the Football Department performance over the past 3 years. Draft and trade strategies, game plans, skills, conditioning are all bearing fruit now, and compounded by a bit of bad luck with injuries (noting we're not alone here)

The personnel in the FD, and their strategies and tactics and have been in place well before Pert arrived, in fact they have been formed and implemented under the watch of Mahoney.

I think (hope) that small shift is strategies and tactics, a little bit more luck with injuries and a better run of preparation into 2020 will have us performing much closer to the lfoty expectations of pre 2019.

The test for Pert will be guiding and supporting Mahoney et al to make the required adjustments. Or facilitating more significant changes should they be required.

I won't rush to judgement on him until he has a chance to make an impact.

But you'd have to be a gene short of a moron to think our on-field performances have anything to do with Pert.  On a scale of 1-100 his influence is 0.

By this logic, we should never have got rid of Cameron Schwab then right? Remembering the catalyst for him getting moved on was 2 enormous losses at the start of the 2013 season. We were investigated for tanking with him at the helm, how can you possibly say the CEO has 0 influence over on-field performance? You seemingly have little understanding of how corporate structures operate in practice.

Schwab was interfering with football matters.

The only thing relating to the footy department that Pert has been involved with is signing Goodwin to a long term deal, which by all accounts was a popular move.

Over time Pert will shape the Footy department - mainly with funding, direct hiring of staff, decisions on facilities as well as more indirectly with leadership/staff development etc.

Its just too early to judge him on that when he hasn’t made those decisions.

If I wasn't crying into my cornflakes so much at the moment this OP would be giving me a good laugh.

1. The teams failure onfield is all Pert's fault and if only Mahoney was the CEO like PJ wanted him to be none of this would have happened and we'd be sitting on top of the ladder. Oh Dear! Hang on Mahoney's the head of the FD that's failing so miserably. But it's not his fault he should be the CEO, it's Pert's fault.  Hmmm interesting logic.

2. Pert shouldn't have been appointed the CEO because he meddled in the FD at Collingwood. Pert shouldn't be the CEO because the current Melbourne FD isn't performing and it's his fault and he should interfere with the FD.  Hmmm interesting logic.

3. Pert shouldn't be the CEO Mahoney should be because PJ wanted a succession plan that gave him a continuing job as a mentor. It doesn't matter that the two biggest issues for the next CEO are facilities and building memberships for the long term survival of the Club. It doesn't matter that Mahoney has absolutely no experience in either of these areas and that Pert's the most experienced and successful CEO in both these areas.

4. Pert's track record so far at MFC. He came out and made a bold statement about membership targets. The following week we had the biggest single increase in year on year membership for the corresponding period that we've ever had. Our membership numbers are going to be around 15% higher than last year's record. Our best increase year on year before that has been about 5-6%. Yes part of that is due to last year's improved performance but the numbers show his direct impact on the increased memberships already.

5. Pert jumped in and gave Goodwin a contract extension. He is therefore a failure. Mahoney is the head of the FD. His role is to oversee the FD and make the personnel calls. He would send the recommendation to the CEO who should empower the person in Mahoney's position to make that call. That in turn as a process has to be ratified by the Board. Can you imagine the discontent if Pert stepped in and overruled Mahoney on this.

6. It's shaping up to be a tough off season for the FD. Unfortunately he is probably have to be engaged in that to some extent. At least in requiring a review. But ultimately he should entrust the head of the FD to do that.

7. By the end of the season with most of a full list back on the park we will be playing good footy again and most of this crisis will be a thing of the past. (I believe.) Injuries, form of so many key players and a very short pre season have created a perfect storm. It will pass. No one will be crediting Pert when that happens and neither should they.

We have gone from prelim finalist to wooden spoon fancy in seven games. There were clear rumblings of discontent when Pert was appointed. And now we have inner sanctum staff (Misson) publicly pointing fingers, covering hides and attempting to deflect blame now that things have gone pear shaped.

No scapegoats. Just facts. To say that Demonland posters are responsible for these issues ... well, it’s real ‘ding dong Drysdale’ stuff.

Posting often doesn’t make you right.

Personally I don’t feel like Pert has any influence on our current on field outcomes. Just the same as PJ had no influence, besides challenging the footy dept when required.

Fanciful and trollish to keep suggesting otherwise I think.

Doesn’t make me wrong either.

Nor does floating a plausible theory make me a ‘troll’.

And again, anyone who doesn’t think off field has real potential to affect on field is extraordinarily naive.

Jackson and Pert are very different fish.

Their histories suggest  very different approaches..

At Melbourne Jackson left the football completely alone. It's not his thing. He had Roos to completely oversee the football, both onfield and off field. PJ just righted the ship and made it seaworthy.

Pert is notorious for leaving his fingerprints all over the football. I will be very surprised if he doesn't make his presence known and thoughts manifest should we continue to spiral.

Communication is a very important function, considering the plummet we have endured since September.

You don’t have to read it or listen, if you are not interested.

I would like to hear what the president has to say.

Any thoughts on whether Gary Pert leaving Collingwood was good for them, and him becoming CEO of Melbourne has beeen bad for us?

I haven't heard anything bad about Pert, he hasn't been there long enough to be a problem, and I assume our poor form this year is purely coincidental with Pert's arrival.

Eddie Everywhere put up his hand in an interview and stated that as the President he told Pert to go in and get involved in the FD at Collingwood when it wasn't going well. Is that what you're talking about? Haven't heard of any other instances. What else do you have for saying this?

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side.
