Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Trade Petracca?

I don't think this is the solution to our issues; we'd be trading an immensely talented player and getting his lowest return.  He'd net a top five-ten pick every other year of his career to date; this would be selling our stock at its lowest value.  I would rather see the players and coaches put a rocket up him like the Geelong group did with Ablett Jr at the end of 2006.  He has enough talent to tear the game apart, but he is not working hard enough to reach that potential.  He needs to commit 100% to football, the club and himself.

With that said... would I trade him for a pick?  No.

Would I trade him for a player?  Possibly.

But again, we're not going to be trading him for a great, in-form player (Whitfield, etc.).  The best we could hope for in a trade is a similarly talented player who is not reaching his potential, a good player with only a couple of years of top football left in them, or a solid role-player type, who won't win matches of their own boot but can play consistent football through the year.

Why do so many on here think we will get Rowell. We likely only get him if we finish last which we won’t. Our back half of the year will be much better once we get players back

no guarantee on that

we are currently playing with our 'best available' midfield and we are being routinely thrashed for contested footy

I think the problem is our player development- too many have not come on.

This must be the real question.

The only players to have markedly improved under Goody are players that fit his team game style (whatever that is) - like ANB who can make numbers around the ball.

Roos gave the players roles based on their attributes and those players rose up.

Harmes is maybe the only player Goody gave a signature role - and he shone.

I hope he can pull it together. But the fact there isn’t a great deal of exciting player development with a list of extreme talent... this has to be the big question

Not defending our woeful season to date... but every team that has beaten us is in the top 8.  We’ve had a challenging fixture to start the season.

Our 1 win has come against the only team we’ve played currently outside the 8.  More wins will come.

Yes, we’ve got such a great history of trading. Let him join the likes of Howe, Dunn, Hogan, Kent, Watts etc. No problem.

Only one there is Howe, and he was going regardless.

We could conceivably get a pick in the 10-20 range for him now. 25-35 might be next year after his stocks plummet even further.

“Sticking fat with Trac” might not have been the best choice of words.

Though perhaps accurate.

More sensible than the trade Brayshaw rumblings a couple of seasons ago, but I don't see us getting value in any given trade, and I still see the prospect of a match-winner.

He could be our more brutish (but less mouthy) version of Akermanis, all things going well, and that's not something you toss away for at best a mid first round pick.

We’ve got to get bold. Take calculated risks.

- Draft best mid available in the country with our first pick. Let’s say for argument’s sake Matthew Rowell.

- Get say pick 15 for Petracca and on trade to GWS for Patton.

- With pick 20 or thereabouts get that young Isaac Smith type we desperately need.

Go into 2020 with:

B: Hibberd May Hore

HB: Hunt Lever Salem

? Harmes Oliver Pick20

HF: Rowell TMac Hannan

F: Melksham Patton Weideman

R: Gawn Brayshaw Viney

I: Fritsch Sparrow Jetta Stretch

Hibberd??

Can’t be serious.

I would be prepared to trade anyone on the list with the exception of Oliver and Gawn.

The other exception is I no longer trust the current football bosses to get the right deal.

If we had a proven, experienced football manager in charge of the deal then almost anything is on the table...

Including nothing if they think that is the right thing.

What’s telling is the only potshot you can take on my scenario is Hibberd’s inclusion. He’ll be fine if he can regain full fitness and form. Quality, proven player. Still under 30yo.

Agree LG you trade what you have a potential excess in or for something better.

We are desperate for the forward goalkicking mid .  Petracca is that.

You could make a case for the Hogan trade albeit we stuffed it up and got massive unders but I would have difficulty in seeing the case for trading Petracca.

I think we should trade him while hes still worth some coin. Hes lazy a lot of the time. Another season playing like he has been and you wont get anything for him. 5 seasons (albiet a few injuries) hes had a fair chance. Yeah there is a chance he could go somewhere and become a player, but that says more about their structures and our structures. Im sick of the 5 sec cameos as well, and how many goals has he kicked in 4-5 seasons? Consistent output is what we desperately need.

you would get a second rounder for him on present form. The upside is way better.

The challenge is for the coaching staff to get the best from him. They have failed to do so with every early round pick that we have had since Travis Johnstone. Different coaches and staff etc but same problem

But is he that in reality or are you projecting the type of player you hoped he’d become?

Averaging 16 touches and 1 goal a game this season thus far. 67 SuperCoach points.

Is that what a “goal kicking forward/mid” should be producing?

Why are we setting the bar so low?

Because that is as good as it gets. Trade if a good deal is in the offering.

While I understand the talk, trading Petracca would be a huge mistake in my opinion.

We know he is hugely talented - we have seen glimpses of it. It is frustrating that his form isn't consistent but he is young and in a relatively young side. When he explodes, he will explode and seeing this happen at another club would be devastating.

But above his talent, is his loyalty. Petracca has said on multiple occasions that he wants to be a one club player and loves what they are building at the dees (despite current form). I think trading him would be hugely consequential for the culture we have spent so long trying to build. He is such a loved player at the club and in some sense feels like a conduit between all the groups that exist within the team. I know we have traded other loved players like Watts and Hogan, but their circumstances are different. Watts, well he was heading into his late 20s and we had stuck by him for some time. Hogan always wanted to go home, so it was a mutual decision.

I get there is only so long we can keep going with the "next year is his breakout season", but whether it is next year or whether it is a gradual build up to one massive season, it will happen. He is the type of player every club should have and I understand the frustration, but I think we have seen enough to know what he is capable of and eventually, he will be able to do that consistently and we want him wearing red and blue when he does.

This is the the counter argument and I think Querty7 you have expressed it better than any other poster in the thread.

However I feel your instincts on this one are wrong and CP5 is in fact not as ‘hugely talented’ as we desperately hoped he would be.

I also think his presence is consequential for the club’s culture, but not in the sense you imagine. He brings a negative energy to the team IMO.

It’s a huge call either way, depending on your view. I think the bigger risk is keeping him. What you see is what get and are only ever going to get.

Petracca needs to do what Billings did last preseason, and many more have done before him. Walk the walk, put in the effort, and take control of his own destiny when it comes to getting the best out of yourself.

If he isn’t prepared to do that by the time this upcoming offseason rolls around, then move him on.

It’s time to be a man who stands on his own 2 feet.

There’s absolutely no guarantee that Rowell will be any good at AFL level. Draft picks are a complete gamble.

We need to get more out of Petracca before we think of trading him. We could trying playing in defence or look at dropping him. He is no sylvia mark 2 or a watts he is better , but needs to prove it. The same time the clowns runnings the need a kick up the ..... or are kicked out.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
