Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Only O’Meara and Burgoyne, of that group were injured, when taken by the Hawks.

Patton has done 3 knees in a row, or at least 3 in a short period of time. And he missed half of his first season with 'jumpers knee'.

If he was an animal he'd have been shot by now.

Regardless of Gawn or Lever having had 'only' two recos, Patton is a bridge too far.

No inconsistency there. I’ve never said Patton is risk-free.

There is inconsistency in nearly everything you post.

'Our under 23 talent is poor, better trade pick 3 for a player who will be 28 next year'

'Ken Hinkley is coach of the year'

'SECOND knee reco, he's had two knee recos, he's a worry with his knee issues - let's get Patton'

Yeah, real consistent.

“Patton has garnered interest from other Victorian clubs but seems certain to eventually find his way to the Hawks in a trade for a mid-range pick given his lack of recent football.”

‘Seems certain’ is quite different to ‘is certain’.

Still a very interesting cut price option for us as a key forward. Put in the Plan B or C folder in case the Ben Brown deal falls through.

A lot of water to go under under the bridge between now and trade week. I would not be surprised in the slightest if we are one of the other Vic clubs to enquire about Patton.

What deal? The one you suggested in the thread you started on here yesterday?

Interesting comments in that article on the money he is prepared to accept.

"He has one more year on a lucrative deal that will effectively be torn up and replaced by what is likely a two-year deal at the Hawks.

Instead of that huge salary he would secure a deal on or around the average AFL salary of $360,000 a season."

Any club including MFC would be mad not to match that deal. There must be something else in the package that the Hawks are offering. Care to expand Redleg  :)

I would call in the AFL integrity officer. Oh sorry I forgot, the AFL has no integrity.

If hawthorn get him, he will make a full recovery, recapture his best form, improve some and be the 2020 Coleman medallist. If the Dees recruit him, he will be a dud.

The Josh Jenkins who is 31 before next season starts? I'd be disappointed if we didn't ask serious questions re Patton at the asking price.

Patton won't work in the forward system we need to play.

We already have a cumbersome, ordinary forward line that completely lacks pace and gets rebounded off week in and week out. Patton would contribute to this problem.

A player like Himmelberg as some have noted is a really good example of a nimble forward that can take a big mark but get the job done on the ground too. Even Greenwood from Adelaide, Lever's best mate, would be an interesting idea to play forward. Quick, strong, a decent kick and a good mark. Could rotate between the midfield and deep forward.

We need to radically change our set up, making us faster, unpredictable and harder to coach against.

We need a fit Melksham, a fit Hannan, even a fit Vandenberg would help. Along with Petracca, a Greenwood-type, Caddy, Bolton and another quick (how's Bedford coming along?), this will drastically change our forwardline.

Personally, I'd implement far more rotation and switching between deep forward, half forward and midfield than we do. I'd basically play a similar system to Liverpool in soccer. The front 3 or 4 attackers constantly rotate in and out of midfield, wide positions and attack. I'd look at making us dynamic as possible by making a lot of our positions agnostic and interchangeable.

Patton doesn't won't work if we go down this sort of path.

We need pace, class and players in the 22-26 bracket.  Patton will go to the Hawks, a massive no to Jenkins and perhaps a new coach but that’s yet to be fully proven.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
