Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Agreed.

It will also allow him to get his foot right too.

If he has season ending surgery, when he could just have it now, after a 1-5 start to the year I just won't know what to think. But can see it happening being a Melbourne supporter.

Hopefully the fact that he's only missing a couple means there's nothing structurally that needs fixing.

What the actual f**k.

Do you have any idea about shoulders, medicine, or surgery?

We should just send players in for surgery because it sounds like a good idea?

I don't put a huge amount of stock into what Tom Browne says but his use of the phrase "avoided surgery" surely means something along the lines of "there's no need for surgery to this injury".

It's like if he rolled his ankle. A minor sprain doesn't need surgery, but damaged ligaments/bones might. If he had just a minor sprain, you'd be advocating to just chuck him under the knife for no reason?

I still can't work out whether Viney took on Stack thinking he could run straight through him, or was completely oblivious to his presence. Either way it was extraordinarily poor football.

I agree with other posters - if there is any thought that Viney could benefit from having surgery, just get it done. He has had little influence to date, so we will hardly be worse off getting games into a kid.

He definitely tried to take it on. 99% of players in the league would have side stepped it which was the smart thing to do and would have been beneficial for the team. Almost feel sometimes Viney is just out there to show how tough he is rather than actually play football and help his side win.

We don’t need courageous acts that amount to nothing. We need match winners and that’s what a captain should do.

He had a millisecond mate.

He didn't see him until the last split second as he did what most MFC players wouldn't, and that is keeping his eye totally on the ball.  Extremely poor football?  No, extremely poor commentary from you.

Viney is bloody tough considering he just got up and didn't even grimace.  I have whinged more about a biting my tongue.

I often don't find myself agreeing with you, TGR, but on this I do.

I have no idea what poita and At the break of Gawn are on about. He copped a hospital handpass, Stack was able to line him up, and Viney had no option but to wear it.

What I can't stand about Demonland is when people have ample material to constructively criticise someone but take something completely innocent and rant about that instead. If you're unhappy with Viney, let's talk about his poor kicking or his too frequent tendency to try to take a tackler on only to get caught, instead of this hit.

Would rather he plays HF pushing high (wide) and/or off the wing where he theoretically has more time / space to execute.  One of our best kicks coming i50 also so wouldn't hurt.

He has been NQR all season. It will be like for like. Ordinary player replacing ordinary player.

Viney, coming off 2 seasons ruined by a foot injury, played 1 preseason game for Casey then was selected for Round 1 and looked miles off peak fitness. Should have been targeted for a later start to playing games with Tommy Mac and Clarrie so they could build their fitness base with more preseason training loads.

Tried that two weeks ago and got hit by criticism. It was a suggestion to break the losses of momentum or disposession from the umpires.

Looked to me like he had very late notice of Stack's arrival and just had time to brace. The villain by my viewing was Max with that horrible hospital handpass to Viney.

Yeah it was your classic MFC floater.. seriously our worst area in need of improvement.

on another note, would love a Melbourne player this year to physical ruffle some opposition players feathers.. we look so polite this year..

How about we bring in a different type of footballer than a slow hard at it player (I.e. Maynard). We are still too same paced so with viney out we can look to play someone who has either speed or repeated effort defensive running capabilities. Further, we could even take one of the million midfielders playing in every position bar the midfield and put them in the middle where they should be (eg Jones). If we bring in a Maynard I just think the coaches are missing at least one fundamental problem with our team.

For those of you that knock Viney's penchant to take on the tackler, FCS the alternative is play ultra safe with quickly handball off-load (ala Oliver) or just kick it to an outnumber.  Oliver is in the highest percentile with his hands, so Viney can't match him there.

Melbourne lacks pace and overlap...the so-called footy experts have finally realised this.  Viney is actually doing the team thing, and copping physical pressure and the ignominy of a few more holding the ball frees against, by taking it on himself to break a line.

The latest incident is one he couldn't avoid.  More generally, maybe he should learn Dusty's fend off rather than tuck the ball under his arm - he has lost any speed he had before his toe injury and gives away a free kick every time often costing us momentum.

Edit:  Decision on whether he has surgery will be made next Monday. Viney Assessment

It's a split second decision.  If he didn't take him on half of D'land would be up in arms accusing him of squibbing it.

Would take a goer in the team any day over someone who blinks.

Hardly poor football.  Just part of the game.

Nailed it Rusty.

I actually don't think he could have avoided the bump.

Rubbish.

Surely our history on giving up on seasons has never really helped us.  They need to show something for the rest of the season.

Is Maynard the obvious replacement at this stage? He is the only one I can think of. I think Tracc should move to the midfield, along with Melksham, for the next couple of weeks.

Maynard is the Obvious coalface replacement...  but I like your idea of putting Tracca in the guts.

I would rotate him (tracca) thru the bench...  this allows us to be quicker inside our F50.   More mobility creates pressure of Oppo's defenders.

Viney didn't know Stack was there,  imo...  until he turned his head and saw him,

I reckon Viney started to turn maybe with the thought that,  if he got tackled,  he could halve the contest.

I reckon Viney didn't consider he might get bumped hard.

I don't think he had time to brace, because his body was half turned.  No tucking in really. that's why he was hurt, IMO

True  'Wndrs'...  but also we need to find where players are up to,  Re our list strategy.

He needed to hear voices...   the voices of his teammates,  telling of his situation.  "HOT" !!!

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
