Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Petty. Jordan. Sparrow are the ones to watch.  They should become good players.

Chandler is a boy but cheeky smart fwd pocket. Unlikely to make it but fun to watch.

Bedford is the wildcard. Could be the answer as the elusive magical forward pocket type  I like his pace.

Maynard should be given a go.  I like him above ANB. We need to see if he’s up to the AFL tempo.  If not, then he must be delisted

Spargo should be traded. He has nothing special.  At 173 cms, he needs much more pace and strength over the footy.

At the risk of boring everyone senseless I have been saying since day 1 he is short with average skills. That type of player does not make it at AFL level.

There isn't a great deal of players that can step up into the seniors and therefore we have a revolving door system in place.  What makes us seemingly weak is that we have a long term injury list. Some players who return from injury, re injure themselves normally for the same problem.  Many yers ago a top sports physiotherapist  from a top EPL made a statement that lack of stretching was a cause of groin and hamstring problems. My step was a very good martial artist who always stretched never suffered from groin or hamstring injuries. I am not saying that injuries can occur in other sports. I would like to the club take aside 6 young reserves players and have them concentrate on skills ,endurance and strength and then re introduce into the reserves. We also must look at our training staff (coaches) someone(s) must take the fall. We as a club should have ( in hindsight) kept Pedo , it is not necessary to have a tall ruckman is the fleas cannot take advantage.

What do you think Jason Taylor's reasoning was for drafting him? Baffles me

I think that's a bit simplistic - Do you remember a guy called Greg Williams? 3cm taller, arguably slower but very very handy player

I'm not saying Charlie is the next Greg Williams but his skills are good and he usually creates opportunities with possession. His challenge is to build a bigger tank, get stronger and to run all day and get the ball more often. These are not going to come easily so he has work ahead but from the little, I have seen he certainly does not lack the desire for success

The coaching staff obviously see potential I think in two years time we will know if he's going to make it or not - too early to write him off IMO

I think we are going to disagree sydee. However if what you say is correct why is he in the senior side? It would seem following what you said he is not ready yet.

Why are you guys engaging with this troll? Its well known now that he's only discussion has been his criticism of the young players we drafted last year and Jason Taylor in general. Lets not let facts get in a good way that James Jordan was the youngest player drafted last year.. its obvious it will take time for him.

Time to stop giving the [censored] air time.

I certainly wasn't saying he is ready nor was I suggesting he should be an automatic selection in the senior side - far from it

However, I do see potential and I do think he has more chance to succeed than some others

Only time will tell - what I will say is that I have seen enough of Charlie to know he won't die wondering

Come on OD the kid is 19 and some take time. You have your opinion and so does sydee . He has time on his side to improve getting fitter and stronger at 22 he could end up being a very valuable player.

Have the patience Spargo shows potential .We are all on the same side so give him the space.  Wait and see.

I think Maynard and Sparrow become important.  Our current midfield are ‘get ball, butcher ball’ at the moment.  I could see a role for different players in the guts, and shifting Brayshaw and even Oliver outside at times to get better value out of them.  30 possessions and 25 turnovers and 5 passes to players under heaps of pressure is not really a good day out for the team.

I think Petty and Kielty must be really close, and if they can show form would add significant value to the main squad.  I also see OMac as worth watching - can he discover his form?

Chandler, Bedford and Jordon (and Bradtke) are really early in their careers, so let them build into the game.

Oskar Baker is returning from long term injury, so I suspect needs a few games to get going before he would even be looked at.

I would not write off any of these guys.  It is unfortunate that they are even in the conversation by necessity at this stage.

I thought he showed some nice signs v Box Hill, looks athletic and reasonable skills.

Chandler looked better than his draft profiles in Box Hill game. 17 possessions and 2 goals. Ran to good spots, clean hands and reasonable disposal. Baker has not shown much this season.

Fair to say if you've got a bit of speed, can run and carry then there are a few spots available in the ones.

Bedford is the one I was originally excited about but forgot about him amongst all the doom and gloom. I have no idea of his form in Casey (has he played) but he certainly does have the capacity to make things happen. Right now he'd need to have the abilities of Mandrake the Magician to be of assistance but would love to see him get a run in the ones later in the year.

totally agree,  'bk_nkd'.   Some different coalface with some run. I think is needed

We have been butchering the ball so badly from our clearances,  its a disgrace.

Oli and Brayshaw, some of our worst.

Kade chandler is the one I am quietly excited about.

Would love to see Bedford explode, he has talent...  hopefully he isnt another Dion Johnstone.

He definitely has the footy smarts, unfortunately it's offset by his stature and lack of pace. I'd say he would have looked really classy with excellent decision making in the junior leagues. But gee it takes a pretty special player (not meaning to sound like brooose) to make it at afl level with his dimensions.

He was the steak knives in the May deal DJ. Between injuries and concussion issues was never going to make it at GCS. Similar is happening already with us. Sadly his body is not up to the rigours of AFL.

Petty I think can make it in time - but probably needs exactly that - time. It's a bit weird though that some people are happy to let Weideman learn to be a footballer taking space up in the ones but not Petty who in my mind would most likely contribute just as much

Bit harsh on Spargo - he does need to build an engine and play midfield rather than undersized small forward

Chandler I have not seen so can't comment

Concur on the others

I reckon, given back the years, that I could make some good footballers, not champions, out of Keilty, TSmith, Spargo, Lockhardt and Chandler - given a sustained exposure. Add to that JSmith when recovered and Baker after some more exposure. Maynard needs attention with speed and teaming, and should get that focus straight away. There is good stuff there - and I wish I was in Viccy to see Casey play often. There's  bound to be some additional talent that I am currently unaware of at this point. After all, Casey is a feeder for the big time yet many are languishing at the periphery without roadtests.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
