Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It is noticeable, isn't it? The annual roll of the dice in the selection and allocation of umpiring games cannot be as random as we hoped. We are destined to see it stitch the finals teams yet again and the win/loss ratios of the rest of us.

Harry McKay looking great again.  Blues have a superstar in the making.

Drafted straight after 650K Weiderman. Love it how people use Weidermans age as an excuse when you have the likes of Curnow and McKay tearing it up at the same age.

Carlton - Just know they're [censored] but want to win. Collingwood infuriate me , find players out of nothing.

Strong Victorian clubs stay in the mix.

That hurts.

They are both super exciting athletes too, Weid is not.

You sure Charlie Curnow's tearing it up at the moment..?

Has played 3 games for the year for 2 goals this year.  He's a good prospect, but much like Petracca, the hype has not met the output to this stage.

McKay was always gonna be a gun and was my pre-draft fancy.  He is playing in a much, much more functional set-up now than what Weideman is.  Blues are playing some good football.

Curnow has 61 career goals playing in a bottom of the ladder team. Weiderman has 21 playing for a team that made prelims.

Weed hasn’t even achieved what Curnow already had achieved 2 years ago.

Not hard so far to pick all the winners for this round. In the main humdrum football.

My maximum TV watch these days is 2-3 games and quite often it's only the second half/last quarter if the game is close.

Strange thing us that with my kayo sub allowing me to watch all 9 games I probably watch less than when I was watching FTA.

Seems to happen with a lot of things. So long as it is just something that drifts through and happens to be there, yep. But if you actually have to stop and make a conscious, deliberate decision to watch, you'll decide it isn't worth the trouble. Now imagine how many movie reruns you've watched over the decades that you would never have bothered with if you'd actually had to pick them from a menu!

At least the football involves real people and a real contest and the storyline is at least a little bit different each time.

Meanwhile, not sure what to feel about Carlton giving the Hawks a belting in the first half here. Does this confirm the theory that the Hawks aren't actually that great right now and we've got a chance to hunt them next weekend, or does it just mean (MFCSS warning) that the Hawks will cop a blast during the week and come out firing and disciplined against us?

A female field umpire....  never seen that before in the AFL.

Not seen in over a century of football until recently. I wonder what it was that was wrong with women that was preventing them umpiring, that has been cured now? ?

That’s what happens when AFL removes coaches capacity to employ different tactics like put players behind the ball ect. If a team is on top they just stay on top the whole game now really. 6,6,6 is proving quite the snoozefest.

The balance of the Blues list is simply better than ours. Got their pillars sorted and have stocked the midfield in the last couple of drafts with quality inside and outside.

And to think that C Curnow, arguably their best player behind Cripps last season, is still to come back into this side. They are set.

Hawks have to use a first round draft pick this year so probably don’t mind bottoming our this year

And all because AFLHQ is still upset about the Swans 'ugly' premiership almost 15 years ago.

Hmm, we start hoping that this year's draft has a kid of the quality of Sam Walsh? (Currently the best debut season by anyone ever)

Jesus. I just had a look at his numbers. I knew he was breaking distance records, but I had no idea he was averaging 26 touches. Incredible.

I try to avoid footy when Melbourne lose, so haven't watched much other football this season.

Almost the same team we played last year (minus Walsh) that we belted by 100pts.

when your out of form, everyone looks better than you.

Having said that, I think their spine is bloody good but you’d expect that when the number of high draft picks they’ve had.

We l get some articles by the coaches n players saying it’s not good enough and they are hurting most likely.

Players playing today that didn’t play in that game:

Weitering

Marchbank

Walsh

Dow

McGovern

Casboult

Gibbons

Newman

Cunningham

E Curnow

Silvagni

But yeah, basically the same team.

Also, I said the BALANCE of their list is better. Which it quite clearly is.

the blues who have a whopping seven players aged 29 and over; they're not nearly as young and inexperienced as everyone makes out

I thought that a moment ago when Thomas was being interviewed at the end of the first half and he said 'with our young group' etc etc. They're actually in a pretty similar place to us.

Carlton have Murphy (31), Simpson (34), Kreuzer (30 in 2 weeks time), Jones (28), Curnow (30 in November), Thomas (32 in June) and Casboult (29). So seven players playing today that are 28 or older.

In comparison, on Wednesday night without Jetta (29), we had Jones (31), Lewis (32), Gawn (28 in December), Hibberd (29), Melksham (28 in August), Garlett (30 in August) and Smith (28).

You'd have to say Jones and Lewis will hang up the boots at the end of this season and Garlett will either be delisted or retired. Not sure how much longer Smith will be on the list and how far is Hibberd from the end? I'd say he's got another two years maximum. How long does Jets have? It'll be interesting to see how we deal with our older players in the next 2-3 years.

Lolz at anyone who says we’ll beat Hawthorn next week. They’ve got  Breust, Wingard, Poppy, Gunston, Roughy and others to kick their 15-20 goals. Where are ours going to come from? Plus they’ve got pace on the wings to cut through lines in guys like Scully, Smith and Impey. We’re rolling with old man Jonesy and grandpa Lewis. Forget it.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
