Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Not sure if either have been mentioned but surely we'd be looking at the below mature aged players from the state leagues.

Matt Hammellman has kicked 60 + goals two years in a row in the NEAFL. Previously listed at Brisbane and delisted in 2017. 197cm strong marking forward.

Liam McBean is leading the SANFL goal kicking this year with 46 goals from 17 games. 202cm forward, delisted by Richmond in 2016.

Totally agree, but lets not nurse him to 300, keep him on the list but make him earn the spot. He should be like Lewis this year and Vince the year before and be told he's not an automatic selection and that he has to be prepared to play Casey. He's been offered minimal money that reflects this anyway, and won't be captain next season.

Having said that, he would be the absolutely perfect person to go to the Gold Coast to help out for a year, but it would be cruel given what he's been through with us.

He ain't winning a flag with us, and we are only giving him a year. He would get 2 at the Suns and on better coin, if i was him i would think about it. He deserved more success, but sometimes you don't get what you want in life,  he has been well paid, has a place in history at our club. No one would begrudge him.

if i was joel smith, i would probably want to leave to have another opportunity at a new environment

i imagine the bigger question is whether, given his injury history, anyone else would be interested in investing in him

Doubt any other club will look at him, they've got no real history to go off. Hopefully he'll back himself in with the new high performance staff to get it right.

I'm of the opinion that we'll rebound strongly next year, but Jones might be pushed out along the way. Nothing wrong with that, but I hope the club makes sure that even if he does get a bigger/better offer from GC that they are seen as fully supporting him if he did take it. We can't have the JMac scenario again (even just the optics of that).

Weid has just had operations on his hips, so you'd think there's a chance he'll take a while to get going, so 1 mature aged player could be a great stop gap. McBean would be my pick of those 2 because the NEAFL is very weak this year, I was hoping we'd be looking for a crumber who can come in and make an instant impact as well, maybe someone with a bit of flair who's been overlooked.

You are way off the mark with Petracca 'Bombay'...

He has ben good in an otherwise lacklustre forward half.

If we need him to be a superstar you are probably right but if we need a good player then he is it.

Rather than superstar I expect him to step up to A grade for his position.

He's the least of our problems.

ANB has signed for 2 years......

wont be going anywhere.

Steve I'm against them receiving a PP  but not because of our benefit, my view is further access to young players will do little they need older bigger bodies, C.O.L.A and no limit on FD spending to become anything resembling a football club

Late reply, sorry.

Gold Coast will have a much greater chance of attracting mature aged/bodied players with a PP. No? A star even. It gives them options.

The AFL will do it and fair enough really.

This. Life is amazing, but some of the outcomes are sh$t. Greg Norman's lack of majors a perfect example. You handle that with grace if you can (I think the Shark was the epitome of grace, see how he handled Faldo post loss August 1996). Nursing someone along because of a romanticism, in this day and age, I think, is not helpful.  Have respect of course, but you can't disrespect the club and other players by making exceptions (I'm not saying anyone on DL is suggesting this).

Haven't heard anything to this effect, but wondering if we'll be now looking at Jack Newnes from St Kilda. He's always been described as a Richo favorite with many of their fans arguing he's got games when he should have there. He's been a bit off the last 2 years but was pretty good between 2014-17, and started this year ok. No superstar at all but could be another wing we might look at, that won't cost us anything on the trade table.

Interesting that no MFC players have been spoken about yet as of being a trade interest to other clubs.

Unsurprising based on their collective performances this year?

There’ll be a few nibbles, but I doubt we’ll lose anyone we’d miss dearly.

Some fair information in the article, although very misguided on how they assess the value of draft picks/trades. Using the AFL coaches award is as bad as using Brownlow votes, this year there's only 2 out of the top 20 who aren't mids/rucks or spend a fair amount of time through the middle of the ground, in 2018 there was only 1 out of the top 20. Given we've traded for key defenders, who don't get a look in in these awards it's a flawed ranking system.

I don't mind his 3 options for the draft/trade period. Has there been any more mention of Ben King coming out of GC?

1) Trade pick 2 for Brad Hill and Ed Langdon – potentially moving on a player if you need to, to make the salary cap work. Take pick 20 to the draft.

2) Trade pick 2 for Ben King and pick 20 for Ed Langdon.

3) Trade pick 20 for Ed Langdon, and take pick 2 to the draft – or if you can downgrade it for two picks, like say two first-rounders from GWS, consider that.

He is a die-in-the-woods North supporter.  Keen observer of the game and has the knack of being quite neutral and objective in his articles.  Not to mention insightful.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
