Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What do people think of maybe trying to grab young big boy Fogarty off the Crows, you know, for next-to-nothing plus irony, as a disgruntled kid who isn't getting a game, is being played out of position in the twos, and wants more opportunities? An additional strong body, and there is no question at all about his willingness to compete and provide a physical presence. I'm not the first person to raise it...

https://www.fiveaa.com.au/shows/rowey-bicks/There-Are-Concerns-The-Adelaide-Crows-Could-Lose-A-Young-Gun

And Crows fans are fixing on his non-selection as one of the examples of how the coaches have lost the plot.

https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/darcy-fogarty-afc-pick-12-in-the-2017-draft.1182615/page-166

I'm sure the Crows would try to play hard, but eh, it has the advantage of being a trade that would for us be useful, but not really a necessity or urgent.

Also, I would just love it if the grand total of Adelaide's gains from the Lever trade turned out to be some lesser pick we give them for Fogarty, plus the increasingly minor pick upgrade they get due to their deal with Carlton (which they secured with our 2018 pick) and their current slide.

FYI The reason Fogarty can’t crack it for a game at Adelaide is he struggles in the SANFL.

Has kicked 8 goals in 15 games.

Usually you get what you pay for.

He’s played mostly in defense this year, so the goals tally is pointless. He’s a first round pick who’s only 20 and is an aggressive marking forward. IMO he’s definitely worth looking at if he doesn’t cost much and wants to come to VIC.

He's played the past few games up forward and hasn't really done much at all. Even crow fans will tell you that he's struggled up forward in the SANFL.

Weideman is a first round pick key forward so scratch that off your sales pitch.

And goals tally is very far from pointless when we’re needing to address that very specific concern in the F50.

193cm and a bit overweight too. No thanks.

History of the draft says most of the top KPF come from the first round...

Of course it doesn't mean all first round picks will be guns but the law of averages says if KPF is outside the first round they have a much lesser chance of making it.

So maybe that should be on the list if you are a recruiting guru.

Why are we talking about a guy who struggles to kick goals in the SANFL? That’s the real question here.

Because we’re looking for cheap options to help fix our forward line, whilst retaining high draft picks to bring in elite young talent. But yep, let’s give up pick 2 for Ben Brown ?

A SANFL struggler, Weid and TMac. Sign me up for a family membership pronto!

Ben Brown is a bonafide gun. Proven quality. Worth pick 3 and then some.

I'm not...I'm talking about draft position in relation to success of a KPF.

You brought it up.

Carry on...

Lord Travis brought it up.

Lucas Cook was pick 12. Should we get on the blower to him, too? “Come back Lucas, we need 60+ goals from you in 2020.”

Ben Brown is a hit up leading forward, doesn't take big contested marks, he needs to ball to hit him on a lead.  We can't hit the side of a barn going into our forward 50m.

Skill and speed that is the only type of player we should be looking at.  If you can't keep the Footy no point having big hit up forwards

Hey Jay, good to have you around again.

I just finished listening to it and to be quite honest I found it to be a load of rubbish. When they went through the out of contract list they said they would give 2 year contracts to Alex Neal Bullen, Tim Smith and even Josh Wagner but yet would trade Sam Frost or sign him on a 1 year deal as depth player. Bunch of amatures who completely have no idea about our list.

Then to finish it off they said that Ross Lyon would be the perfect coach for us? ?

more softening up in the little paper today that gc17 are going to get pick 1 and 2

That would be so typical of our year. We have pick 2, but lose it to GC for a priority pick that had virtually been discontinued by the AFL over the last few years.

We should be lobbying against it. When we really needed a pp, we were denied one in a couple of our really bad years, most likely because of the tanking fiasco.

I recall several in the media, led by Caro, arguing against a badly needed pp for us because of the tanking fiasco.

Also we are ranked 16th in Under 23 talent on lists while GC are ranked 7th. Who needs young talent more, then or us? They need a couple of experienced players and some help with their FD and salary cap.

What’s next for us in this great season?

Thank Gil and the brains trust at the AFL.

They continue to be a shining light on our club and great game.

I am all for them introducing position bibs for next season. This way new people to the game won't get confused about what players are playing what position. And of course it will also be easier to get the umpiries more involved to restrict tackling as no one enjoys tacklea.

The afl have their finger on the pulse. Afterall whats another compromised draft? All is fair in AFL land

Hey mate,

Cheers. It’s been nice to have a bit of extra time to pop back into DL.

Hahah, fair to say that the list analysis throws up some contentious views and I raised a brow at more than a few things in there. I found their earlier podcast discussions on the profile of this years draft crop quite interesting and was good to get some takes that aren’t from the mainstream footy media.

Who do you like in this year's crop?

I simply think you just can't go past Anderson if GC dont receive a PP. At 189cm he is the perfect prototype of a genuine utility where i see him starting forward and making a sudden impact but also pushing into the midfield later and being a genuine star of the comp.

Next in line I do like Ash, Serong, Flanders and even Young also. I have watched some games of Ash live and he just adds genuine speed and line breaking ability off half back.

Interesting the query with Ash was his ability to play midfield and last week he played as an on baller and amassed 26 disposals 4 marks and 7 tackles. So i thought that was a really good insight into his potential for the future.

I prefer Anderson to Rowell (both should be guns at senior AFL level) and when I break it down, I can’t see how Rowell is that far ahead of Anderson in general rankings. Wouldn’t be surprised if the order of those two flipped closer to draft day. If GC gets the extra pick at the top of the draft, I guess it’s irrelevant for everyone else.

Love the way Ash plays. I think Young’s kicking would be just that bit more valuable to the Dees, but purely from an enjoyment point of view could watch Ash’s dash all day long.

Yes, toward the very top of this draft crop behind Young. Anderson’s exactly what we need and I’ll be gutted if GC get a priority pick and get him. It’d remove the only positive we could get out of this appalling season.

I agree redleg, the fact that we are 17th will go in gold coast’s favour

Recent history shows clearly that priority picks are not the way to help a struggling club. Both Carlton and Melbourne went down that path and got nowhere. The way to help GC is to overhaul their administration and FD so that they are able to function as a professional outfit. Throwing picks at a failing club is not only unfair to other clubs, it's unfair to the kids having their careers ruined by getting sent there.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
