Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I do not rate Jenkins and he would not come cheap in terms of salary, would rather pick up Casboult as a free agent to smash packs and provide a marking target and allow Weid to play as a leading target

Yeah I'm not a big Jenkins fan either tbh, but I think we potentially could get him 'cheaply' given he seems on the outer at the Crows. Would really be looking at him to fill a senior depth role, bit like Pedersen did for a few years and T.Smith does currently. Wouldn't mind Casboult either, wouldn't exactly help our goal kicking but could be handy as a higher key forward who could make space for the other talls. Either way, would be looking at either as more insurance rather than 'best 22' as such.

Jenkins is still under contract and Casboult is a liability.

Who do you suggest we realistically target then?

I’m not sure who will be available come the end of the season but getting C graders is not going to do anything to improve us except clog up the list.

T Mac back in form and another pre- season into Weeds will make a massive difference.

I would take Casboult over Jenkins.

  • Jenkins would want to play as best 22 and at his salary we could not afford him in the VFL.
  • Jenkins has another 3 years on his sizeable $$ contract (when he will be 33 yo), whereas Casboult is on a much lower salary and out of contract this year.
  • Nothing comes 'cheaply' with Adelaide so they would insist on a high draft pick and we take over his $$ contract.  No trade required for Casboult as he is a free agent this year.

We have a depth player to contest in the forward line and that is the Big Scary Man, Preuss.  Like Casboult he wouldn't be there for goals but to add some muscle and create a contest.

With both TMac and Weid out this weekend, one of those "C graders" would be playing. That's the point both Pennant and I have been talking about, mature depth. We're being realistic here about what can be achieved in one trade period, and realistically you can't have 44 A graders on your list. I'm not saying you're doing this necessarily, but I don't understand how so many people can only think in terms of 'best 22' when it comes to trading in players. We've used more players than any other team this year, we're up to nearly 40 players which is getting close to the entire list, so I personally think a little bit of mature depth WOULD improve us.

Yep, don't mind that suggestion, my only concern is if you can't break into the worst team in the comp consistently, is there something wrong, or has he just told them he's out and so they're not keen on playing him?

Genuine question, but when trading in a contracted player, does the new club have to honour the same contract length? Given clubs are often paying part of the salary of a traded out player (Watts is an example), does that mean a 'new' contract is negotiated with the new club?

I'm not fussed between the two tbh, so you're definitely making me lean towards Levi. I think we definitely need more than "A depth player" (Preuss) though, and our lineup today exposes that a bit, hence why I think a mature body KPF would be a handy addition to our depth.

Yes, the Crows could elect to pay some of Jenkin's contract.

The last line is a bit confusing needing 'more than 'A depth player' but a mature body...would be a handy addition to our depth...

We may have different definitions of 'depth'.  To me it is someone who comes into the seniors when needed for injury, match ups or team balance otherwise they play at Casey.

I understand your sentiment but you are not recruiting players such as Jenkins on 800k a year as depth players.

Your depth players need to be developed and I believe kids are the best approach here.

Having T Mac and Weed both injured is unlucky.

Yep, aware the Crows may be forced to pay some of his contract, seems a reasonably common occurrence in the modern AFL landscape, but was more wondering if anyone knew about contract length. I know player managers would be hesitant to allow a contract length to be reduced, but wondering if it's actually allowed or not.

What I meant by that is we need more than one depth player as a key forward, hence my emphasis on "A", given we were talking about Preuss today. I think we have the same definition of depth mate, your description is absolutely in line with mine.

Would like to see both Petty and Oscar put on 10k's of muscle and have a good pre season and then see how they go up forward.

Jenkins is on 550k a year I believe, and I would think if the Crows were keen to shuffle him out then they'd be paying a portion of that.

I absolutely agree we may need to look at some key forward youth, but my argument would be having some mature depth means we can develop them more steadily and not have to throw them in when form may not demand it.

Who do you suggest? I'm open minded about this, just putting forward realistic scenarios.

I’m keen on Day as a free agent

But in terms of the next Mihocek? You’ve gotta be lucky - started as a defender st vfl level and has been terrific as a forward at afl level...Pies re-tooled him as a necessity to fill a role and he’s been terrific ever since

There has to be another player out there who we can get lucky with; we’ve already seen Hore become best 22 for us (subject to availability) and there MUST be more 22-25 year olds out there more than capable of achieving at afl level

Yeah, I'm definitely open to the Day option, keep hearing Dees fans talk about him, have we been linked to him yet?

Is Buxton (Casey) any chop as a key forward, or is he more pure ruckman? Haven't seen him play in person, but could he be an option for that kind of pickup?

Lots of players can't break into their current teams for a variety of reasons. Look at Preuss at North, or even Tom Mitchell at Swans, for that matter. Not saying Day would be a star but there must be a reason he was highly rated and picked in the pointy end of his draft.

I reckon the club (many clubs) would be looking hard at him.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
