Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Wèed needs to go with TMac back in the forward line, play Kelty or Petty down back.

Retire Lewis, say goodbye to ANB and work from there.

Agree with this, I’d give Baker a go for ANB, both Keilty and Petty down back, TMac Preuss in forward line

@praha- it’s also within threads. Nathan Jones should apparently stand aside cos this dude thinks he isn’t worthy of second place on our all times games list.

First, Nasher, I'm not "this dude" but a member with an opinion to share.

Second, he shouldn't stand aside because I think he's unworthy of second place but because he isn't up to it at the moment.

Understand?

Yes Rolling Fog, our players are far too polite. Unfortunately they're more polite than some of the contributors to Demonland.

We saw what Sam can do in last years finals when he was awesome.

He is seriously down on confidence. Apart from running under the mark.. his lack of tackling was dissappointing so his efforts to trap the ball in were less than Preuss.

Having said that I have no answers. i feel that apart from omac up ff we have exhausted most options.

Recruiting an experienced proven ff and crumber is a must over summer.

How do we get players confident again?

See my earlier comments on umpiring. Recognition through protection and reward are vital.

When the coach tells you to put your head over the ball and it gets hit, ground into the dirt, or pulled off by an opponent with no protection or reward you lose confidence. When you play in front as instructed by the coach but are not rewarded or protected when pushed out or ridden into the ground you lose confidence.

when you tackle as instructed and the ball spills free but you are not rewarded you lose confidence.

When this effort is not rewarded and you see your opponents executing the same actions and getting rewarded you not only lose confidence but you become frustrated.

We must approach the umpires to find out why our structures or techniques are wrong.

We have the most dominating ruckman who has received no support and often is penalised for action which are used against him. Receivers of his efforts are pushed and scragged with no protection. Our Forwards who are pushed under the ball or held out of contests do not seem to receive the same rewards that our opponents do when they receive similar treatment. Our defenders are penalised for chopping, holding or blocking when opponents appear to use the same tactics without punishment.

That the punishment or lack of reward often significantly effects our flow and places our players out of position our structures or techniques must be wrong.

We must talk with the rule makers to correct our structures or techniques so that our players can play with the confidence and flair to make our beautiful game more attractive..

What’s to come in ? Really? Only Preuss.

We have 6-7 best 22 players out.  We got rid of our depth.

In:

1. Hard at it footy. Grit. Knockons. Shepherds. Smothers.

2. Gut running. No walking. INTENSITY TO GET TO EACH CONTEST

3. Kick to the hotspot about 15-20 out from goals. NOT TO THE FUC$)N POCKET

4. Discipline.  No stupid high tackles. It’s the waist every time

5. Identify the other clubs strategy. Example: We let Houli have 25 kicks unmarked.  He was their defensive rebounder.

6. “Connect forward of centre” a Goodwin-ism. BS really but it means kick to find a player

7. One up one down. Under 8s stuff. One up at the contests and the other crumbs. We are dumb

8. Break tackles. Get your arms free. Pendlebury is the master

9. Quick ball movement.  We must play on. Slow and wide gets killed

10. Kicking for goal.  Practice practice practice. We have been ok in 2019 even but it’s still CRITICAL

AND

11. Stop overhandballing around in circles or useless handball to someone standing RIGHT NEXT TO YOU often meaning they get caught with the footy

All good points. Intensity seems also a key. We break down when off balance or caused to rush but do no apply the same intensity to opponents who are able to balance and deliver. Again a confidence that this intensity will be recognised by the officiating umpires is needed to allow confidence in application.

I just want to see more midfield rotation during the game. Collingwood are the best at cycling through their midfield and we need to do it better too. It’s how we are going to overcome our two way running issue.

Midfield: Cycle Brayshaw, Oliver, Viney, Harmes, AnB, Melksham, Petracca, Salem, Jones, Garlett.

Wings: Cycle through Stretch, Hunt, Brayshaw, Fritsch.

Forwards: core players being Tmac, Weid or Smith (whoever is selected), Lockhart. Preuss when not rucking.

Defence: Core being Frost, Hore, Omac, Lewis.

Hibberd on Breust

Hore  on Gunston

Frost on Roughead

Omac on Mitchell Lewis

If Preuss plays, they’ll put Ceglar on him.

Like that rotation model. I have called it churn and allows players to move through areas. Requires awareness by and of teamates to ensure there is alignment and cover . Biggest problem is avoiding negative match ups.

Sorry, frustration gets the better of me sometimes.

With regards to Jones - he’s struggling for sure, however I can’t see him being dropped. There’s at least 3 players I can think of that would be first and there are zero players at Casey better than him. He will be persevered with for some time yet. As for the games record, if it’s irrelevant as you’re now saying, then I’m not sure why you brought it up in the first place. Your whole post was centred around him not being worthy for holding these records, I’m not sure what else you were expecting us to conclude.

You are not alone frustration is a corner stone of being a MFC supporter. Back to Jones you are correct there is no one better available in fact there is no one even close to his current form. With our injuries list I think you can be confident he will play ever game this year. Next year, I reckon he will get a one year deal and he will take it as he will still be better than the replacements have to offer. Now that maybe an indictment on our mid fielders list but IMO it is a fact.

If we drop Weideman for Preuss, our tall forwards are Preuss and Smith. Preuss was going alright before the injury but I’m still pretty unconvinced he’s any good as a forward. If he’s not marking it there’s not much else he does - he doesn’t know when or how to bring ground players in to play, and he is too slow to do anything about half backs who want to escape with the ball. I liked Smith’s game last night, but he’s a medium sized forward who is borderline AFL level. He tries his guts out though, which is hard not to love.

We’ve definitely got a problem at the moment as Weid was hopeless again last night, but I’m still confident he’s got the right attributes and will come good. If you drop him now and go with a makeshift Preuss/Smith forward line, I see that as giving up on the forward line before the game has even started. At least with Weideman in, there’s at least some prospect of the miraculous happening and they start to fire, no matter how minute it is.

I hope the TMac back thing is only temporary. We desperately need him to return to last year’s forward marking form.

Agree.

I'm hopeful we're just using Tom in the backline to get him more involved in the play and to fill a need until either Oscar changes his form around at the VFL or we get May/Lever back.

We won't go anywhere without Tom as an in-form leading/marking key forward so we simply have to get him back there at some point soon.

Smith's a limited footballer who might work as a third tall in place of Hannan but isn't skilled enough to be a second tall. Preuss is a nice bit of fun down there but as a number one target without Tom or Weideman, I can't see him doing anywhere near enough.

Our depth is woeful.

We're playing our depth.

Kolodjashnij, J Smith, vandenBerg, Hannan, Lever, Jetta, May and now Viney are all forced outs and all (except maybe Kolodjashnij are best 22).

That puts 6-7 players into the side who ordinarily wouldn't be there.

Strength & Conditioning.  Off the line speed also missing.

Just my op but from what ive witnessed this season, the FD hasn't gotten our boys (the ones who had a full pre-season) to a level that enables them to compete with the best.

We are getting matched with intensity around the ball (vs last season) by more teams, burst speed away from congestion (and direct opponent) and endurance running by most opponents in most quarters, the Swans an exception.  The above issues masked somewhat on a smaller ground.

Can’t go with Weid at FF again. Send to CHB to get involved, run jump and punch the prune away or back to Casey with a clear target ... 4 x 3+ goal games in a row or no return to the seniors.

Also cannot play Hunt as small forward. Not his go at all. HBF/Wing or don’t play him.

6 games to the bye.

The team showed some good signs on Wed night.  imv only essential (injury) changes until the bye.

Let the current selected team settle and let the coaches experiment with positional moves, strategy tweaks and tactics with them.

After the bye, bring back the longer term injuries and we go again.  Really important to have a good second half of the year.

So changes this week: Viney and ANB if he doesn't recover.

Would love to see Sparrow, Baker and Petty’s form demand selection before the bye.  If two of these three could play out the year, that would be a big plus in a pretty dark season.

Would also like to see ANB tried down back.  Tackling, running and 1 percenters are a strength of his game; give him a job and a man to follow.

Where is our training complex the Mcc have set us up with... where is our social club within the Mcg?

How have the Mcc aided us in our recruitment dept' ?

The Mcc has bludged off our backs,  and more recently the other Co tenants.

They sent us OFF from training on the Mcg...  to Junction Oval,  a place that was to small and the cricket club had priority. Out odf spite because Mfc wanted bigger roms for Gym and better social facilities.

So they roped of the centre wicket area at first,  and then packed us off to St-Kilda.

Now there is your UN-Pleasentries from  the Mcc... right there.

It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
