Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Which one are you?

I'm the one not blaming people for being concerned about us seemingly going off a cliff.

We made a prelim last year.

At them moment we look like we'll be lucky to win 5+ games.

I flew down from the Goldy for this game. I think there was effort but the cattle in that team is so poor. The fact are we are looking at an extended period at the bottom. Please Mr President (Mr Invisible) move heaven and earth to get a Roos type to help Goodwin. This is more than the coach there need to be a complete overhaul. My highlight was sharing a lift with Neita and Hoppy after the game. Hoppy been in a good paddock!

If you want to spew up , watch Goodwins presser. He is positive and thinks we are moving in the right direction

Remember that TV show called Spin City? Gave everyone the blueprint for press conferences.

Goody needs to get an explanation from the umpires boss on the massive inconsistencies between how we are umpired compared to the opposition every week. It is ridiculous.

Are we seriously blaming the umpires? There were inconsistencies both ways tonight.

Are you the emotional one (one of many) looking for scapegoats?

Being there for the ANZAC ceremony was a very moving experience, the first quarter whilst not pretty was some of the hottest footy in any match this year.

The following 3 quarters was just a putrid,  mistake-ridden game of  footy , the crowd was as flat as I've ever seen 70k plus in my life.

We are a very ordinary team, most likely bottom 4.

At least goody tried something different tonight and our defence was better.

Our forward line is still dysfunctional and our mids still don’t run hard enough both ways.

The tigers do move the ball forward really well and run and spread hard all 4 quarters. Maybe it’s something we can learn from.

I think our mids busted a gut tonight. But the difference between us and the Tigers is they play smarter. They stick to their structures so theyre not constantly sprinting back and forth across the field. By midway through the 3rd our mids were stuffed from and the Tigers ran over us.

Every time the Tigers won possession of us they had someone set up across half back and someone else on the back corner of the square. Our guys had to sprint to make position every time then when we inevitably turned it over due to poor decision making/poor disposal they had to sprint back to cover their opponents. There's only so long you can keep doing that until it catches up especially with no reward.

I don't think you can say we didn't try tonight. But trying is the bare minimum. We need to learn to play smarter and get rewarded for our effort. We can't kick 1 goal for a half of footy and expect to win games

We asked Goodwin to make positional changes. He did.

We asked him to loosen the aggressive nature of our forward press. He did.

But we still stank.

To me, tonight was proof that our fitness levels are deplorable. We were out on out feet in the third. They ran us off our legs. Our fitness issues must surely run deeper like Roos has suggested.

The effort was there, the attempts to spread and run two ways were there in the first half, but as we tired in the third quarter we fell apart.

Combining our lack of fitness with repeat turnovers leads to no confidence and it just spirals from there.

I reckon Viney turned literally every one of his kicks over. He isn’t learning from previous mistakes and he’s trying to will himself into form by breaking tackles, but failing.

Hibberd’s defensive job on Dusty was impressive but I think he also turned all of his kicks over.

Our forward line is a shambles. We have no one leading at the ball carrier, which contributes to the turnovers. We have no one who can take a contested mark. We tried to bring forward pressure but ANB, Garlett and Hunt failed. Weideman is hopelessly out of form. Petracca was terrible. Tim Smith is a VFL player.

We won’t get anywhere until we get 22 fit players, some forwards who lead at the ball and hold their marks, and we start lowering our eyes and hitting targets.

I will say this - we’re a better chance of turning things around by focusing on defence first and trying to add attack, rather than the other way around.

And I thought Hore was great again and is showing signs of a positive future.

I saw play against Box Hill and he was very ordinary. Ever since he has come back into the side hes almost been our best defender along with Frost and Salem.

Cant wait to see how he develops.

Not looking for scapegoats.

Just wanting to try and understand where it's all going wrong.

Love this team, really hurting to see them down like this to be honest.

We have nothing up forward. Weid is a bust too slow can't take a grab. Petracca is rubbish the rest stank too. May deserves a massive kick up the [censored] for what he has put us through. Great game by Tommy Mac he's a better defender than forward, Hore played well. Gawn is is a great ruckman the rest make too many mistakes. We are crying out for Hogan and Kent and they are at different clubs.

What I find scary and staggering is that we've gone from the 4th best side in the competition, to dead set last over the space of one off season. Is that some kind of record?

Hore was really good. I thought Fritsch was one of our best. Too many players turned it over. Nearly all. Fritsch is one of very few who doesnt rush. Id put him in the midfield, as far as im concerned he is one of our top 3 best players.

Our side is embarrassing. Goody should drop Oliver, Petracca and Gus and send them to play VFL, and learn that the big scary game of footy isnt all that scary. You can hold on to the ball and find the best option, you arent going to die with the ball in your hand so you dont have to rush everything.

What game were you watching? Fritsch was bloody horrible. Hence why Goody had to take him out of our backline in the last qtr because he was plain shithouse.

Couple of observations:

a) I respect Goody for making a few changes, but there's a fine line between sticking to your guns (and the plan you have laid out all summer) vs looking desperate. Some of the changes he made tonight smelt of desperation. Notably Brayshaw didn't attend one centre bounce. Not one. And he is our best centre bounce player. Tmac going back made our forward line as impotent as a 95yo man in a nursing home.

b) Goodwin keeps on banging on about "Connection". The reason we can't connect with our forward line all comes down to the very last possession going into the 50. We have guys like Oliver who slams it on the boot and bombs it in high, Brayshaw blindly kicking around corners, Viney who rarely makes a good decision with ball in hand. We need that last possession to go to someone with class who can dispose of it. The only people I can think of is Salem and Melksham otherwise the ball is going to keep on bouncing back out of there. Tom Lynch (Ade) is a great example of a connector, Watts was also pretty decent at it as well (he was ranked 1 for kicks that get retained inside the F50 in 2017).

c) Richmond's pressure is elite. This makes their back 6 look amazing (although they are good in their own right) as every kick forward from the opposition is under pressure. Collingwood's game plan of keeping off is the only way to beat them. Unfortunately our skill level across the board is so below the Pies we could never execute that game plan

d) Richmond home games are horrible for anyone with a GA membership. Since how they have 98k members there's barely any GA seats left because they've farmed out any decent seats as reserved.

We worked on that transition from defensive side to an attacking side over 3 years though... 2014-2016

Take out Hogan, Hannan, Vandenberg and TMac in the worst form of his career and who is going to take a mark in our forward line? We can't score because we can't mark/contest inside 50.

Melksham is a great kick but we had him in the midfield early and he turned it over too much. We need a cool head in the midfield. I can only think of Fritsch.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
