Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

No, the most one dimensional player on our list . Has one trick and even that gets him into plenty of bother, Tries to beat every tackle that comes his way, refuses to dish it of has average disposal and NO right side. Would be better suited to rugby!

Oh almost forgot he is also our Captain. You know what, I would seriously entertain a trade for him to get a classy outside finisher. Call me Mad but he offers little other than manic attack on the ball, but then what?

I think you would be depressed if you saw how other clubs valued him with respect to what they would give us in return.

Hindsight is a lovely thing but there was something deep inside me during the pre season that was worried. I almost put on a false hope that we would be premiership contenders. What had me worried was the following:

- We never really stamped ourselves last year against the better sides, we weren't assured finals until round 22. We played good footy against middle of the road to lower sides than average to poor against the best.

- Losing Hogan and having TMac as the focal point, I was big on this. Even though there was no Hogan for large parts of the year & finals it is a huge mental pressure on TMac knowing he's 1 out.

- Weideman was never going to be ready to step up, he's played 1 good game so far in his career albeit a final. He may well make it in a few years time but none seriously thought he could kick 40+ goals this year.

- We got extremely lucky & faced 2 sides in the finals who were well and truly cooked, Hawthorn & Geelong were average sides last season. Then we got found out against a good side in the Prelim

- Sides were always going to find a way to combat our style, I feel as though Goodwin & the coaches stuck their head in the sand & thought "We'll just do us & forget the rest" let's not worry what sides may do to us & how we can combat & almost be a step ahead of the competition. This may partly be due to Goodwins inexperience

- I haven't read much into the 6-6-6 but it can't have helped us, we liked to get a 7th defender behind the ball to help our lack of key defenders which has exposed us badly. The extras off the back of the square also was something we'd use to great effect over the past few years.

All we can do is hope this is a learning year for the players & Goodwin. He has a blank canvas for 16 weeks for trial & error. See what does & doesn't work, in game & on game day. Get Lever & May back to sure up our defence and get a  relatively high draft pick & pick up a good kid. Finish 13th & get a good draw next year & learn from all mistakes made last pre season to hit 2020 running

I keep asking why was the best KPF we had traded out for a lazy over weight Back man who cannot get on the field?

i doubt the fat man from the north wil get on the field this year.

Great recruiting there coach.

My view OD is you never cull your spine, or best players, unless you have a ready made replacement sitting in the Macgoos or ready to fly in on a trade (having ticked all boxes before signing!).  And they either need to match what you already had but with more years ahead of them (youth) or they are more than likely going to add something extra (more weapons).

Hulk wasn't a KPF in the end.  More a roaming tall high HF.  But we recruited him as a KPF so yes I would have replaced with a quality genuine KPF if possible OD.  He was heading home anyways so we needed to get some value while we could.

May would need to make a very solid impact on return given the initial debacle.

Our list management and one dimensional game style (with fixation on keeping it and recruiting coal face insiders...without any evasive finishing skills or burst speed) has come back to bite us big time.

After supporting the Dees for 40+ years, I should have known not to entertain any prospect of getting silverware this season (or ever!), but that damn linear progression had me fooled for a while.

All I can hold on to now are the examples of the Cats and Richmond, who made finals in 2005 and 2015 respectively but fell away quite dramatically and against expectations the season after, before doing their reviews (and getting Neil Balme in footy admin) and winning their drought-breaking premierships in 2007 and 2017.

2020 for us, then. Would Balmey come back?!

I agree - the only difference being Thompson and Hardwick were a bees [censored] away from losing their jobs. Goodwin is safe.

Wouldn’t you be? Look at what Goodwin has destroyed in two years. He sacked off Watts, who Roos had got the best out of. He sacked off Hogan, who was known as Roos’ pet. He got rid of all our depth in favour of C.Wagner, Lockhart, a few late picks.

lets look at the players that we had contributions from over the 2017/2018 seasons and look who has departed:-

hogan

watts

kent

tyson

bugg

pederson

vince

look at those names. All made contributions over that period. I said at the start of the year tht I was concerned with the 7 list changes we made in the off season. It’s too many and we have not bought any real talent into the side. No wonder we have gone backwards. Roos and PJ made a massive contribution to restoring a club culture, that seems to have eroded in the space of 5 months. Welcome to ground zero. Again!

Hogan - wanted out

Watts - right call

Kent - perennially injured, wanted security of a longer contract

Tyson - right call, absolute butcher of the footy, gets caught - now playing reserves for North

Bugg - right call, no longer playing senior footy

Pedersen - right call, past it

Vince - retired

I don't understand how anyone can bag the club for these decisions

The depth issue is killing us. He’s probably equally bitter about Tyson since how he staunchly defended his decision to bring him and Salem in for pick 2 aka Josh Kelly.

Speaking of Roos, was our success last year purely the result of momentum gained during his coaching tenure? It seems the gameplan, work ethic instilled in the players and game day coaching he built at the club has all but evaporated. Was Goody just lucky to inherit a team on an upward trajectory? Something he could maintain for a couple of years due to the solid foundation of his predecessor. Is the rot setting in? Are we now seeing how a Simon Goodwin side plays? I am concerned, and I guess only time will tell.

This thought has crossed my mind a few times and could seriously keep me up all night if I thought about it more.

Viney, Jones and Lewis. Only one of the three should be playing. Viney and Jones are untouchables as captains. Lewis is the only one that offers a skerrick of leadership and better ball use but slow and exposed at times. Two of these have to be dropped. Viney and Jones are momentum killers and aside from burying their heads in packs offer nothing.

Goodwin lauded Viney on SEN before the game saying he personified our brand last week. He was similar last night. The issue is Viney needs to give it off to someone with better foot skills on more occasions. Need Salem in the middle.

The player that concerned me the most, and I never thought I’d say this, was Oliver. His disposals used to be like knives, cutting  the opposition to threads. Now he’s turning it over or choosing dumb options.... looks a different player.

Big fan but tonight smart [censored] handballs to no one.

IF you get rid of depth players, you have to replace them with something better in order for the side to improve. We haven’t done that. That is my point. Our strength last year was the fact we could cover injuries, we are now bag to shuffling guys in from VFL who are not in any form, have no AFL ability and we are devoid of any real depth. Too many list changes that haven’t done anything to improve the list.

For once and for all to those whinging about Hogan being traded, forget about it he had checked out and wanted out.

You can't have players who don't want to be there.

And if any moron brings up Tim Kelly  don't he hadn't checked out it was his manager looking for a better deal than the first two years as a draftee

Apart from Hogan, those guys wouldn't have made a lick of difference last night. Are you trying to tell us that Dom Tyson would have helped change the outcome of the game? Or that Jack Watts would have stood up under the pressure?

You're kidding yourself.

I hope to never hear that word, "brand "again. It just shows the coach is not independent in thinking from the marketing Dept.

The Umpiring last night was as damaging as any this year, as far as i am concerned. Critical free kicks interspersed with other holding decisions, arm chopping and marking interference. Number 8 Maggot should be singled out for childish bias. Plain and simple.  The rest looked as though they were chooks,  just running around for their money. Totally unprofessional beyond the point of being untrained for the position........

At least 20 infringements of players within the kick zone ignored then one against Lewis paid at the end. Obviously there has been intense acrimony now on Fox, in regard to the best Poser in Richmond's side,  and Lewis who didn't want to toe the line of the Monolith.

The club was going to take Billings with that pick, not Kelly.

Don't know why people keep banging on about Kelly.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
