I can add to this story. For the last few years, a mates son Charlie Allen has been the club "Load Manager". What that meant was, he monitored all the players training and health needs, in particular, the GPS units on their backs. He organised blood tests, fitness assessments and whether they were actually doing the work Mission set them. Some stories I cannot tell but Charlie was keeping them honest and kept a keen eye on their activity on and off the field.

After the season Charlie was offered fewer hours and eventually let go. He was headhunted by the firm that imports and manages those GPS units as he is one of the few people in Australia with so much experience with the units, their data handling and what it all meant. It was good for Charles as it meant a much better job, greater prospects and more money. He was also good enough to give me all his MFC merchandise, pity we changed sponsors.

I have no idea if the club replaced him but his C.V. is impressive and he worked in Canberra with the A.I.S before he came to us and with his number of degrees etc I doubt someone of his expertise would just walk in off the street. It may just be a coincidence but there is enough FUGAZI to suggest some players had a good long Christmas and I ask who was monitoring them as the club no longer lists a "Load Manager" position.

Collingwood last year had a horrific injury list last year that would send this site into meltdown if it was us. GWS also. I think the difference there is they can have bodies come in and play a role because they are educated exactly on the game plan. Culture is everything. The way Melbourne is playing completely indicative of poor culture. If these stories are true reflect very poorly on team leaders. As for McCartney probably call it as he see it (good on him) and the precious players who revolted against the camp once again throw their toy out. These performances and stories really make it hard to support this club. You can wear losing but these players have no connection with the pain of the supporter group.

God I wish Roos still wanted to be a senior coach. This club is a shambles that has been held together by the glue that was Jackson and Roos.

Spot on Jackson and Roos dragged this club to a year of respect. Where we are now is a footy tragedy particularly if the rumor of dissent with McCartney are correct. Healthy organisation sort issues internally. Even if McCartney is the Atilla of coaching his white anting in the media reflect poorly on those involved. If this is the organizational culture where stuffed. There need to be mechanism where differences can be discussed and sorted if they don’t exist that poor if they do exist and players find it easier to white ant then culture will be destroyed. The point isn't whether it was Higgins, the point is I thought we should be taking a couple of small forward/rovers with some foot speed and skills. Over the course of a couple of seasons.

And at the same time,  look for the same attributes of run, speed + skill in the midfielder type/size...  to add to our centreline player stocks.

 

Over the past 4 seasons or so, was IMO the time to go this way .  This is why I am so up in arms with paying 2 First Rnd picks for Lever.

We should have stayed with an offer for Lever, of a future 1st Rnd pick +  our 2nd Rnd pick from that draft year.

Although I love him, I find it hard to rely on anything Roosy says, because his own legacy is tied up in Goodwin's success. It's a lot easier to put the blame on the players.

Of course though, it could be both things. Roosy sticking up for Goody AND some players coming back unfit.

I'd love to know who came back unfit. I hope they're not being played right now, when guys like Stretch, by all reports, are terrific, professional trainers and last a week in the seniors before being dropped again.

Maca is still on the bench,  this year.

IF there were serious issues between Maca and Goody,  or with players last year,  why was it we went so well in the 2nd half of 2018 ?

 

Maca went well as a developing coach with the Dogs... prior to being head coach there... and they won a flag with Beveridge...  Meaning Maca developed those kids fairly well,  me thinks.

Maca was also the development coach at the Catters for years,  and they certainly did very well around, and after his tenure,  at the Cats.

 

Nutshell, I don't think Maca is a bad issue.

Possibly he (maca) is putting the blame at the feet of the Players.   Is how I might speculate it.?

Yeah, but it's the most obvious piece of commentary. We've all been saying this for it seems like years now.

We're so easy to coach against, because our players are told to hunt the ball. It's so rare our mids actually commit team acts like shepherding or blocking. The game plan from the contested situation has always seemed to be 'we'll back ourselves to win the CP'.

It's why we regularly lost the UPs, but were happy as long as we won the CPs last year.

The modern game surely shows you need a pretty good balance of both.

Yes, but usually, this sort of stuff actually needs to come out. I remember when many on here said similar of The Age's reporting on Schwab. If it's causing such disharmony, maybe something needs to be done.

We coped extremely well in 2017 when we had a couple of really important outs. Our system that year was working. We didn't always bring the work rate and were inconsistent. Now, you look at the stats and watch our games, and you'd have to say it's the reverse.

And the reason Collingwood could plug and play, is their system is far superior to ours.

I know I bang on about system a lot, but it's so clearly the issue right now. Yes, fitness plays into it and work rate, but system is the chief villain in our woes.

Jetta is the worst offender at this. He's a small that constantly goes up to spoil when he should be at ground level. I love him, but he rarely impacts these contests. Hibberd's the same. I can only think the instruction is to back yourself to kill the contest. The problem is, we rarely do.

Ok, the Jetta injury

Nev felt a bit sore in the knee and in the interests of the team pulled himself out of the Sydney game

Had a scan back in Melb, all clear, trained fully Wednesday and Friday

As mentioned previously a St Kilda player caused the new injury

Now 3 guesses where I got that info from

And as for the unfit at pre season start for a few players, absolute toss, Misson didn't even feel the need to pound uo and down Anderson Hill

And the GPS all the players wear plus the manned tracking unit at both training and games must be fake

And discussing rehab with Jake Lever, told me his load was monitored every session, obviously lied
