Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Hore was excellent. Frost was fine. Hunt is trying.

The rest are woeful. Hibberd is destroying us atm.

Hore was Membrey’s direct opponent... excellent is a stretch

We had the chance today,  to play Keilty and Stretch, and Lockhart.

They would have given us more run across the mid section...  and Keilty could have offered up some mobility up forward...  easing pressure on Weide & TMc,  who is injured,  and TMc could have also moved back to defence more readily,  if Keilty had played today.

None of those players would have made any difference.

OK, so what exactly is wrong with the coolaid our coaches are serving?

They want to play a high defence where our whole team pressures in the forward half

Why is this bad?  Because it means there are 36 players in our forward line when we are in attack.  This makes it virtually impossible to get a player in the clear for a mark or an unpressured shot on goal.  It also means that there are no players in the opposition's fifty, meaning that when they bring the ball out of our forward zone they have miles of open space to work in, meaning that it is very easy for them to get in space to take a mark or have an unpressured shot on goal.

They want our forward 50 entries to be in the supposedly high percentage area 20-30m our directly in front of the goals.

Why is this bad?  Firstly because it makes us horribly predictable, meaning that oppositions defensive units can set up around this area with players waiting for the spillage and runners ready for the handball receive allowing them to easily run the ball back out of our attacking 50 if we don't take a contested mark.  Secondly, because we don't have any forwards capable of taking big contested marks.  Thirdly, because our forwards lack cohesion and teamwork, and so often go for the same ball and spoil each other, saving their opponents the trouble.

They want everyone to win the contested ball.

Why is this bad?  Because unlike when you're eight years old, in the grownup game you can't have a mob of players charging around following the ball wherever it goes.  We repeatedly see our mids all diving in to try to win the ball, get in each others' way and cause fumbles.  Meanwhile, the opposition have two or three in the scrum against our entire midfield who often don't even try to win the ball but just knock it around and try to punch it to the outside where we have nobody and they can get an easy takeaway.  The absolute lack of anything resembling team acts by anyone in our side makes this problem worse.  If our players were working for each other rather than all trying to win the ball themselves, we could use those extra numbers to create space for one or two people to get the ball.  I don't remember the last time I saw a Melbourne player shepherding for a teammate, but it must have been before Goodwin took over.

Yes we have some skill errors.  Yes, the umpiring hurt us today.  But make no mistake, it's the coaching that is causing these problems.

Is this seriously what Goody & Co. want though?

If so then this needs to be added to a book of "How not to coach Australian Rules Football" and each of them forced to read it.  Then made to pass an optional choice test to see if they've learned anything before allowing them to continue.

Every single other club except for maybe Sydney  has more speed and run in the midfield than us.

We have no decent crumbers

The game plan is not working at all this year too much reliance on dominating clearances

the coaches have not adjusted he plan for the new rules

We have failed to recruit/draft to add more balance to the list to give us more pace and run

we are in big trouble, won’t be an easy fix !!!

ah, sorry I can't hear sarcasm in text form...   partly for being an innocent type... I never look for it, instinctively.  That's my nature.

Consequently,  I don't like sarcastic comedy as well...  it offends my nature. ?

Dean Kent was great today.  A real shame, was always one of my favorite players.

If he can stay on the park (big if) the Saints will have gotten a steal.

Normally playing for us, Kent would have pulled a hammy by half time or had some collision injury. Just our luck, he was always a potentially dangerous half forward in a dominate side, but he always got injured when he looked like hitting form.

How the coaches have let Clayton Oliver continue with the rubbish week after week this season is astonishing. He needs to hold the ball when he gets it and then chose an option, time after time he will try and do an instant 1m handball which is of no advantage to the team. All season he has been hacking the ball when kicking, his first kick where we got a goal was a prime example, terrible play despite the Preuss goal.

He is not even close to the 10 best players in the comp which a bunch 'experts' had him in at the start of the season.

Fritsch and Hibberd absolutely awful and the and the two of the main offenders leaving their man for no reason when there is no cover out the back and they will not impact the ball carrier. How many coaches do you need and you still can't get something like this right.

Season done and despite terrible list management I still think we will bounce back hard next season with a few key inclusions into the team.

Fritsch is a forward and is being played in the wrong position.

We are absolutely crap, our reserves get beaten by school kids. If there is a god please have us tossed out of the afl.  How do I get delisted from this website ? perhaps I want comment ever again. A cheap Aldi red is looking good right now.

Fritsch is weak in the contest, poor 1v1, a poor reader of the play, lacks positional awareness and now even his decision making by foot is beginning to fail him due to confidence. He might be able to play on a wing or play a forward role, but he's got no idea in defence and was a liability last year as well.

Oliver needs to play like Danger and attack the game more instead of handballing on every occasion

It's not useless...  hard contested footy is the basis of the game...  a team cannot go without it.

But we lack,  as others have said for a couple of years now... we lack quality centreline running players.

But we also lacked quality tall defenders..  as others have been saying for a couple of years.

And we also lack speedy small forward players.  But we recruited for that,  last draft.  Too early to say how we went.

Centreline players are our big key need.

Goodwin needs to start from scratch.  Our style is cooked and we are embarrassing in all facets.  I've never seen so many people leave at 3 qtr time, everyone's just had enough.  We'll be going back to Sunday twilight games next year and rightly so.

What should be an amazing night on Wednesday will be another embarrassment.  No thanks.

So... yeah.

Only saw the first 15 minutes or so and had to go by little bits and pieces and looking at the stats as I was out for dinner.  Great night to go out by the way.  Seems like I missed another wonderful performance.

I won't read the posts prior to this, as I'm sure some people will have necked themselves already, but it's clear we've got some serious issues.  You can single out players, but if you go by what has come before today, there are issues with our game plan, especially at the 'G.

But I've moved on.  Not even close to upset or annoyed.  It's not that important right now.  I won't begrudge anyone their anger and I'm not saying it's wrong to feel that way.  In fact, it's probably wrong for me to feel almost... indifference?  But that's the way it is.  It probably helps that I didn't see the game to be honest.

The sun will come up tomorrow when my daughter thinks the Easter Bunny has come, and that's all that matters.

There's just no system or structure back there.

Yep, the backline was all over the shop like the Dons game. Hibbo went to Membrey in the goal square at the start of the game. Definitely a wtf moment before the ball was even bounced.

Yep.  Fritsch missed a few spoils whilst on him and Hibberd was also marking him for chunks of the game.

Another thing, half way through quarters we seem to shut up shop. That said, Gawn looked shot ten minutes into the first and couldn't run.

Then there's McDonald, who can barely raise both arms and Jetta, who looks like he's carrying something (at least I hope so). Our fitness is pathetic.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
