Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I would say at least 9 Years.  4 years of downs downs & a bit of up under Goody.  Appoint new coach (year 5) ...Renovations and learning new game styles under new coach/FD (takes us to year 8)... plausible shot at it Year 9....roughly 2028/2029 (also assumes alot goes right over the 4 years post Goodwin).

Why are there people here who defend spargo? He is hopeless. Why does he make himself a leading target constantly ? He is 4 foot nothing and consistently leads upnthe ground and demands the footy. Who do you think you are? Has he been instructed to do this? If so, what a fundamental f. Up by the coaches. He is never going to win a mrking contest. Then, when we need him crumbing inside 50, he is never there! So he can have all the pace in the world, but right now he serves no purpose in the side.

Spargo is 173cm=5ft8inches.

Lou Richards was 170cm allegedly although he looked shorter than that when I met him.

Aaron Davey is 177cm.

I wish we had a little of that this year FD.  Even then, no amount of spirit would make up for the abominable coaching we are seeing unfortunately.

The performances so far are a reflection of how effective Goody & Co are on game day.  We have now taken over the Aints lowly position last year.  16th on the ladder isn't by accident or fortune.  It's by design...and Goody's coaching methods/recruiting (in part) has taken us there.

Many of these players were in the team that took us to 2 wins in finals last year. Goodwin was coach then too.

Has not earned a 4 year extension.  A premiership coach?  Yes ...3 to 4 years.

Far out, nothing going right!

Surely not Misson related. Feels like the guy has a KPI based on how often he has players on the park so opts to play them injured to hit that KPI.

I am as disapointed as anyone on here.. i said in another thread 2 weeks ago we would finish bottom 4 and a couple posters seemed to think i was over reacting.... nothing i have seen suggests we wont. Seriously i couldn't believe the hysteria around Nathan Jones game v Sydney, credit to him for a couple of goals and they were important but i saw nothing to suggest he was back and playing team orientated footy.. plus the swans are the exact replica of us right now. so a win against them was never a season defining or changing win.

How every person in Australia knew the Saints will be to quick and our coaches didnt and bought in Lewis and Nev. That is the biggest concern for me. But seriously, we cant hide Jones and Lewis right now.. so we have to quickly accept that this year is gone and now we just want to be competitive.. just writing that sentence makes me angry. There are circumstances, i get that, injuries, and form.. but its a leaders job (captains / coaches ) to cultivate spirit, they are devoid of spirit and its pretty Sad.

But to this Wednesday night and what we can do: here are my thoughts:

Harmes to go back to basics... hard tag on Dusty..

Tim Smith to come in for Tom Mc. Tom is a liability right now, he needs a rest and a reset - Smith to play out of the goal square and sacrifice his game and drag Grimes away from the contest.

Garlett in for Spargo - no brainer

Lockhart , stretch, baker in.. have to play the kids now.

possible ins: T Smith, Lockhart, Garlett Baker Stretch Smith Keilty

possible Outs- Tmac, Spargo, Viney (inj) Lewis J wagner.

Richmond have 4 speedy small forwards plus Lynch and Riewoldt - Frost and Keilty or O_mac - what else do we have?

And play a hard man on man defence.. we cant defend the zones when we are getting beaten so badly. get a man.. go with them everywhere. Fight fight fight, make it hard for the Tigers, I dont think we can win but we should still have the intestinal fortitude to make it hard for them.

I fear that’s  exactly where we are. A better core this time for sure but we have three or 4 older players that are cooked and no really good talent coming up. We have next to No pace and a need to redo our approach and game plan.  Hate to say it but yes It’s another  rebuild . The game just moved on and passed us..... again. Sigh. Hopefully this is just a mini one.

Every club that's not winning a flag is rebuilding. We may need to sell some stock to get some young runners/crumbers in but our spine remains as good as any in the competition, as does our midfield.

We don't have a spine. Not one key position specialist wins their position except in the center.

Changes:
-Tim Smith for Weideman. Weid struggling and a liability when the ball hits the ground. Smith gives you a contest.
-Garlett for Spargo. Jeffy ready. Let Spargo play in the guts for Casey over an extended period.
- Stretch for Corey Wagner. Billy deserves an extended run. Corey was lost and just had the 6 touches.
- Keilty for Josh Wagner. Josh was not disgraced, but we were clearly a tall short in defence. Hore was good - 13 marks for the game. Let’s see if Keilty is up to it.
- Baker for Lewis. Jordan won’t get up 4 days after returning from a hamstring injury. Let’s see if Oskar brings some enthusiasm into the team.
- Lockhart for Viney/Jetta. Get Lockhart’s run in. One of these sore boys is bound to miss.

Six changes not ideal, but given the 4 day turnaround and our form it’s to be expected. I think the ins cover the ground better than the outs. Two debutantes to bring the excitement factor.

How many games did SG lose us last year by being ill-prepared and inflexible? Compare that to what the Scotts, Roos or Clarkson, get out of their players. It looks like last year was our window and it seems to be nailed shut now. It is the coaches' fault.

Changes - bring in as much pace as we can. Stretch, Garlett, Lockhart. Move Tmac to defense and Tim Smith forward. We can not afford to play all three of Hibberd, Jones, and Lewis at the same time, The game seems beyond Omac's skills. Spargo is not a better option than blooding Chandler or Sparrow and needs Casey development, he has never earned his place.

HF-Melksham  Weid  Hunt

F-Chandler  Preuss  Garlett

R- Gawn Oliver Brayshaw

Int- Lockhart, ANB, Stretch, Petracca

we really need some ground ball gets and chase down pressure in our fwd half and midfield. teams are loading up our fwd half and rebounding quickly to hurt us with our lack of spread and speed each week. we need to try stop it at the source. we should bring in some more speedy crumbing forwards and push the likes of Petracca and Tmac out of the fwd line so we can go smaller/faster, as we're too tall and slow down there for the way we bring it inside 50, ie with no real skills or system. we need some more 2 way running in our midfield also, we cant be carrying these older guys when we are so poor and getting killed on the spread each week. there's just nowhere to hide them these days, especially on the MCG. the game has changed, and we haven't. there's some tough calls to be made, but whole team is in desperate need of a shake up. we need to find a spark and damn quick.

Planet Reality.

Do we have a better option if Reiwoldt plays and they have him and Lynch? Then there’s Caddy who plays tall and small well. I’m sure most of us would want to see Hibbo and Fritsch taking key forwards again, not.

I would rather live on planet googoo than put a completly out of form Omac back in the side. Put Tmac on revolt and bring Kielty into the forward line, If not what about Petty. Anything but Omac.

Fair enough, if that makes us better.

Not sure we will see T Mac in the backline anytime soon, there have been plenty of chances for him to be swung back but the coaches refuse to. I’d like to see Petty get another game, not sure if they will bring him in this week though.

Wouldn’t mind seeing Jordan come in, reminded me of James McDonald in JLT. Swap him in for Hibberd.

Did you watch him yesterday, obviously not? Is a mile off. Want to destroy him like Watt's first game or Petty's?

totally agree with demon dude.  We must hold people responsible for serving up trash. Dual captaincy is totally rubbish , jones is not a leader more like a fan fav.   To get T.Mac a confidence booster he may need to play some ruck. We will continue to have revolving doors we we are short of quality players ( perhaps I am kidding myself).

Same for Hannan, JSmith, VDB, etc, etc.

OMac back in the side would be a disaster - he hasn't even had a chance, yet, to improve. He has by default dragged our backline into the 'help me out!' doldrums and successfully acted as a role model for mediocrity. There are young blokes who would relish a chance and because of that eagerness, would put in plenty.

Tim Smith for a training/orientation in the AFL side. Good move after a few weeks of contesting experience. The Weed out until form ignites in his brain.

Garlett is ready to return, surprise, goal. Spargo is working away at learning and should be in the heat spots for Casey right now.

Stretch has runnability - goes two ways as second nature. Into the AFL side immediately as he is hungry and just that little bit uncertain with his disposal - but he'll give you value when timing and opportunity arise.

Keilty, Keilty, Keilty. How long can our selectors ignore this bloke?

Baker, another flanking speedster in need of experience. Surely the selectors can see that the talent at Casey will be fully inexperienced even when they have their 26th birthdays!

Jordan out, alongside Jones. Hibberd needs a form 'rest' at Casey. Jordan should be moved immediately to the coaching staff with a view for head coach if Goodwin continues to fail the Members/fans.

Viney needs to be given strict instructions to play with the team, at all costs, similar to Clarrie's game.

Lockhardt - time for sustained presence in the AFL team. Role/function mentoring must lift for him.

Goodwin needs a rattle and a warning on tenure ... he appears ambivalent and uncertain.

Viney Jones Lockhart ANB

Out - Weid, Wagner, Wagner, Spargo, Hibberd

In - Stretch, ANB, Lockhart, Jeffy, May

Like them or not, in form or not I can’t see Jones or Lewis getting dropped.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
