Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Of the fringe players Hore was good and Stretch okay. Spargo's 7 touches were very good, but 7 touches and 1 tackle is not nearly enough of a contribution. C.Wagner was quiet and his brother is still ordinary.

Depending on who is available I'd be replacing Spargo first, followed by J.Wagner and C.Wagner in that order.

Having said that I'm not sure I'd be playing either Jetta or Lewis against St Kilda. If the current side can't beat St Kilda they should give up. Save those guys for Richmond, rather than expecting them to back up 4 days later.

Wouldn't have seen him out there last night except for the Lockhart late withdrawal Poita.  Coming back from a broaken jaw also.  Looked sharp early before fading....match fitness?  Needs a few games under his belt i reckon.

How did people see Weids performance? He seems to struggle for fitness, arrives late to contests.

One of only a handful of players to improve their output on last year IMO.  Given the ugliness of the first 3 weeks and his lack of experience that's not too shabby.   Would just like to see him start standing up and impacting games when things aren't going our way during matches, like the first quarter last night (against the tide if you like), vs going ok and better when the team's picked their game up and more players are on and performing.

Got to remember with the changes that after the Saints we play the Tigs 4 days later, so while we have the bigger break now I wouldn't be expecting anyone who's had an injuries (Lewis, Jetta and May) to play both. So it might just be forced changes then look at bringing them and guys like Lockart, Garlett etc. in fresh for the Tigs.

And thats why I want Lewis to come back for the Tigers game.

Excellent last quarter.

His 52 metre goal was a massive steadier. His set shots for goal have become elite.

Plus the aggressive tackles, at one point I thought it Viney going for the ball but it was Weid bent over. The goals will come, but efforts like those will turn him into a really good player.

The barracking stuff was two pronged @Redleg

Part of it was probably the old Kerry Packer maxim: 'Don't talk the game down.' The second part was that it would create a talking point if we lost about how 'easy we are to score against' and our 'mental fragility'. These two canards are well worn,  require little original thought but allow Lingy to come on air and tsk tsk us while sounding like he is knowledgeable.

For a win, there will be a few changes for mine as I can still see a few holes. There was improvement but a bit to work on.

In: Lockhart, Petty

Out: Spargo, OMac (concussed or not)

I could put Jeffy in but his Casey form is important for mine. That being said Preuss hadn't set the world on fire out there and he was bloody important last night to the win. However, Lockhart had earned his spot over the two weeks he was in so he stays in.

Spargo actually has a bloody good football brain and rarely makes a mistake with ball in hand but just can't get his hands on the thing. OMac needs to think about how badly he wants that spot in the backline because with May and Lever coming back, he won't be a walk in 22 member if he puts in pea hearted efforts like he did last night.

I reckon the impending return of these players this year is already in his head, and perhaps he doesn't have the mental resiliency to keep putting in 100% knowing he doesn't get a game with May and Lever fully fit. I think Frost has gone past Omac comfortably this year, and that says plenty. And its not even a skill or ability thing, Frost is as prone as anyone to making blues but his athleticism sets him apart from Omac when they both have reasonably similar outputs otherwise.

Having said that, we see the game a certain way and the coaches probably another. They are the ones with the intimate knowledge of the game plan, so maybe we are looking at the wrong metrics in assessing Omac. Long bow but still worth considering.

No change make Lewis and Jetta play in the 2's

A very difficult selection. Hard to balance the desire to reward the guys who did the job with the reality that last nights side is far from perfect.

Jetta straight back in if he's fit. Which defender makes way? J Wags?Oscar?  Hore? Does Hibberd come under big scrutiny?

Does Lewis back mean Fritsch moves to a wing, maybe play C Wagner at half forward/mid and cover the likely absence of Preuss.

Or do we bring in another taller target to keep the 3 tall structure? T Smith or Keilty?

While I think Lewis deserves to be straight in due to his experience in aiding structure on the G, I too question whether Jetta should come straight back in given he was out of form in the first 3 games and I read somewhere he was losing 50% contests. There should be no favourites. Good call.

Edit: Having said that we might need him to play on Gresham as he's a gun and Jets might thrive on locking down a quality small fwd.

I thought Stretch was ok, and showed he was up to the level in a few contests where he would've been forgiven for coughing it up. Hoping he gets a good run at it for at least a month.

Me too, i would love Goodwin to give him a good block of 4 to 6 weeks of game time. I remember years ago against Hawthorn he did a real good shut down job on Brad Hill and completely took him out of the game. I wonder if that could be a role for him where he negates their quick outside players.

Jetta will play if fit.  Hes a star and the rest will have helped him.  Like most of the team he looked underdone the first few weeks.

Jetta was injured, hence the form.

Surely it’s beyond question that a non-injured Jetta plays seniors. I can’t see any sensible scenario where Jetta plays at Casey.

Nasher, you shouldnt have to explain yourself in regards to Jetta. But i also understand why you had to.. ?‍♂️

Jetta is simply locked and loaded in our best 22. He is also our Vice captain and when on song he's one of our best one on one defenders. St Kilda forwards have a mix of small forwards that run through there, Billings Lonie Gresham etc. Gresham is the one i want Jetta locking down on.

While the Jetta (if fit) argument for selection seems simple the fact that we play Saints on Sat and Tigers on Wed (Anzac Eve) with only a four day break I am not sure that  it will be wise for either Lewis or Nev to play both from a fitness angle.

I would like them both to play but we must be conservative with our team selection to maintain our list in good health.

Let's welcome both back but I am confident that Marty Hore stood up well and that's encouraging.

Oscar with a nine  day break should overcome concussion if form warrants his selection.

Jonesy might also be managed for time during this period as will Braydon in the ruck if he recovers also from his shoulder injury.

Most others will need to play in both games providing they pull up without any minor aches pains or tears.

Our Medicos inc Dave Mission  have some  interesting and challenging selections along with the Match Committee for Rounds 5 and 6.

Good luck guys.

Agree in regards to the short turn around. If Jetta needs time to get his knee sorted then i would be happy enough for him to come back against Richmond. The recovery process from St Kila to richmond might be too risky also considering if he has lingering knee issues.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
