Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

POST GAME: Rd 04 vs Sydney

It was a gradual mid field mauling lead by the energy that Pruess brought with that first goal and the bull imposing himself on the match early.

We seem to love the squishy grounds.  Been saying for last few years we should move to Marvel stadium.  Would win a few more home games there IMO.  Need Hannan, Lever & Jeffy back (in decent form and match fitness) to win more often at the G.

I hope we haven't forgotten how easily the Saints split us open on the G last year and how many Joe the gooses they got.

Stretch while not making too many errors tonight didn't do enough IMO and Oscar ...well let's just say he is nowhere near AFL level at this point and just too easily beaten one on one.

Great captains game by Jones (mostly forward half...please leave him there!) and thought the Weid took another step forward against a decent opponent.

Melk gives us something pushing higher outside the arc coming inside 50.  He has smarts and agility to lose opponents, run into space and spot up players in space.  Needs to play this role as much as possible from here.

Spargo ok but still NQR over 4 quarters at this point and we are really lacking a genuine small crumber up forward.

Didn't think 'T-daddy' would play tonight.  Started pretty much how he finished last week but got better as the night went on.  Congrats to him on a winning 150th.

Clarry usual battering ram and a little sloppy at times but can't knock the intensity, attack and 2nd/3rd efforts.

In fact the energy and attack at the ball was back tonight from most which was a relief to see.

Solid win.  Now 10 days to get ourselves fresh for a Saints smack down!

A performance to remember! Wasn’t always pretty but was exactly what was needed. The defence looks frail at the moment but I do think there is improvement to come there. Poor Oscar is having a mare at the moment and he’s just really needs to ride this out.

The skipper answered the critics! Important possessions around the ground, and those clutch goals! Gawn really got better in the second half, seriously good! Was winning plenty of hit outs in the first half but mainly down the throat of the opposition, the synergy looked like it was back in the second.

I am very happy to persist with Hunt up forward, he seems to be honing the craft well week by week and 7 tackles is A-ok with me.

Not gonna go on and on tonight. How good and bad is Thurs night footy? ? Need to be on site at 7:30 but buzzing way too much! Great win boys! Now to build on it.

I’m reserving judgement on Preuss the forward. One goal was plucked out of his [censored] on the boundary from the ruck, the other a long kick that a competent defence would have touched. Don’t get me wrong, quite happy to take two goals and enjoyed his physical play, just not quite ready to crow yet.

His value as a forward aside, his physicality is valuable in and of itself.

The trash talk between Milkshake and Allir was picked up and occurred right after Preuss won an aerial contest. Allir responded to Milkshake by saying (in relation to Preuss): “he loves it rough”.

The players know he’s a brute. Ours and theirs. Ours feed off it. You can see it.

Isn't it great to go into the weekend with the job done!

A terrific performance,  right across the board.  We brought energy,  application,  effort and were highly motivated.  Our out-of-form players stepped it up and we just willed ourselves across the line.  We were not going to get beaten tonight.

Season back on track - away from home,  under seige and we get it done.  Not so long ago we were incapable of bouncing back like we did tonight.  The talent is there.

Tackling and pressure first rate,  kicking to position very good and all of our players contributed.  We bring that type of game on a regular basis and we will win more games than we lose this season.

One win can change everything - confidence & belief returns thus winning against any team is possible.  Anywhere,  anytime.

I didn’t have many angry moments at all personally. Only one I can remember was the Heeney mark in their forward pocket that two of our defenders stood and watched him take.

Probably missing comments (hopefully)...

But Frost was very good tonight.

When he wasn't playing zone he negated one of the best players of this era.

Was that Frosty's best performance?  Thought he played a great blanketing role tonight apart from maybe one ugly Clanger.

I know this is a stupid comparison, but it reminds me back to a quote from Jake Spencer when he was drafted that he chose footy over basketball because he loves hurting people. Preuss must be the same, but also good at football.

YOU WIN WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT IT.

Melbourne kicked 12 goals to the Swans  6 goals after quarter time and dominated.  Gawn got well on top with 67hit outs started to take his marks. Oliver shook the tag after half time and started to get his hands dirty with 33 poss. However my heart goes out to Nathan Jones For  all the doubters he put in a classical game for you guys.

How many times does a good forward get goals on us.

How many times does a spud get goals on us.

Might not be his best, but he was bloody good tonight and if there is positional coaching that allows him to be that player again... DO THAT!

Couldn't agree more.  Changed the feel of our forward line and opponents will be hearing the footsteps from here!  Great foil for Maxy also vs the Weid in earlier matches.

A very solid shut down role (on the games best KPF!) without murdering the pill too often on the rebound.  Hopefully we see more of what he did tonight from here.

That was bloody great. We kicked some really clutch goals tonight (Jones, Melksham, Viney and Hunt).

Our intensity was really up too and we played proper 'control' style at times in the last quarter. We still try to play too quickly at times unnecessarily, but hopefully we can start to add this switch to our game.

Preuss at full forward won't work very often on the 'G, because he doesn't lay any tackles and could barely move by the end of it tonight, but two nice goals from him.

I thought Hore held up well, as did Frost (despite some usual brain fades), but Oscar McDonald was outmuscled so many times in the first half, Hibberd still can't win 1v1s and against a better forwardline, we're still going to struggle unless we continue to improve our defensive transition.

I still think Jeff Garlett would add a bit to this forwardline, but Petracca's intensity was really good again, for a third week in a row and he's getting better with each week. Spargo was neat and handy in the first half and faded a bit (that fitness problem again) and Hunt is untidy at times, but his hand tonight was crucial in converting our inside 50 entries and applying much needed chase and defensive pace in our forwardline. Ultimately, I think he's probably a wingman or half backer, but he'll keep getting games if he continues to chase and harass like he has the last 2-3 weeks.

I think our focus on defence throughout the week meant that it took us a while to play our natural game, which we started to see come through in the second half once we had laid the foundation of defence. Harmes has become a proper player. He holds his own alongside Clarry, Gus and Viney. If we can get our two-way running right, I think those four will make the best midfield in the comp.

I hope we have set the standard for ourselves this week that we can build on for the next few weeks and maybe, just maybe, things can turn around. Given many of our other likely competitors for the top 8 are only sitting on 1 win, we haven't lost as much ground as we could have.

And hold your horses on Jones. It's a bit like Facebook on here. You can't ever criticise him or you're sacrilegious. Nathan did kick three goals, the last of them being a really important one, however outside of those goals, the rest of his game was embarrassing. Do people actually watch the game? He was fumbly and a poor user. What's more, for a guy who's close to playing 300 games, I've never seen such a panicker. Florent's goal in the third, for example, was from a direct Jones panic turnover.

But, as I say, excited to get the win and we'll see whether we can back it up next week.

My only reservations RN on him are his opponent running off him on the bigger ground.

There were times tonight when his lack of mobility was very noticeable. But he was important tonight.

What I saw from the Stands tonight:

- the two way running (especially defence) was excellent - Preuss/hore/trac/hunt/jones and Gawn really led the charge. Chunks efforts finally rubbed off on Viney.

- numbers at the ball finally worked.

- the forward press was relaxed a little, allowing better control against R50’s

- spoiling the swans advances greatly improved

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
