Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This is where the AFL should institute a rule that says the average per year is what cold be matched. It its 5 years for 600k AVERAGE per year, that is what clubs should be allowed to match, not the heavily front ended number. If another club will pay 600 per year for 5 years............

Rule worth considering imo.

He would have been nice, but we dont need him.

My understand that is the rule.

I also believe that what the player demands is what has to go into the cap but not actually what they have to sign for.

I heard from someone in the know at Carlton that they will front load at 800k for the first year and offer a five year deal.

He is not coming to us.

interesting if the AFL don't see that as draft tampering. within the rules but not at all what the draft is about.

Carlton have too much influence at HQ. Libba admitted Carlton tanked and there was crickets from HQ.

gold coast well and truly shafted by carlscum, who value martin so highly on a contract basis but not on a trade basis

only hope is gold coast match his demand just to prove a point. afl can back them with a little help somewhere.

The source I have at Carlton mentioned this is the only thing they are concerned about as Tony Cochrane is an unpredictable unit

If I were GCS I would match $ and draft Martin to send a clear signal to rival clubs to deal a fair trade if they want to lure a player.

Close thread, he's not interested in coming, this all makes me sick.

Nah ... keep open until the PSD.

I was surprised that Martin nominated $1m and a 5 year contract, albeit averaging $600kpa over the full term which suggests that these terms are acceptable to Carlton. They’re placing a lot of store on their ability to turn him into a consistently good performer across what will virtually be the remainder of his career.

So far, it’s been very unremarkable for someone who selected first in the 2012 special Mini Draft and was considered the best young player in the country at the time.

I don't understand why people think this is crazy money. Surely, he is worth around 600k per season?

Problem is they have front loaded $400k onto the first year to scare GC and us off.

Not sure if he is a DFA or a RFA but if GC are allowed to match, I would laugh if they did and then see what happens.

They could keep him for a year and then trade him, or delist him and get compo, either way being better off than losing him for nothing, as it currently stands.

If he gets to the blue scum, nothing personal against him, but I hope it is a monumental bust.

GC17 aren’t going to stump up $1m for a reluctant player for a one year term.

What a [censored] , happy to see him go to Carlton and chew up their salary. Absolutely no where near worth the money he is demanding.

Pretty immature reaction.

Don't think someone setting his wage requirements and preferred place of employment, which he is within his rights to do in this circumstance, requires strangers to make personal comments about him on the internet.

But welcome to 2019 I guess.

If he becomes a FA (think hed have been at gc long enough, or maybe he'd need 2 more) after that year it'd be well worth the compo pick they'd get if he left to Carltank. Probably band 1 the way the AFL work.

Carlton and Martin are being smart.

Can't understand why we didn't do the same thing with Langdon tbh.

It's one of the few advantages you get after a disaster year and in a way it is the obverse advantage to that which the destination clubs enjoy with the powerful free agents.

Don't feel sorry for GC... they will keep receiving priority picks and money until they are successful.

Meanwhile .. us.. well we know what we get.

Carlton will get a bad reputation to deal with in the future, at least clubs know if a player nominates us we have the reputation of getting deals done, players might be reluctant to nominate Carlton in the future because of it, Carlton didn’t want to give up pick 9 yet the the contract they are giving him would suggest he is worth every bit of pick 9

If we can fit the large first year salary into the cap (maybe a bit of Elliot money?), it means the remaining 4 years are probably $450-500k, which isn't too bad considering we're not trading anything for him. Big issue is how much space do we have in next year's cap? Happy to pay him whatever is left in the cap for next year as it would just be left unspent otherwise

teams will remember what Carlton did, especially GC who will have a nice crop of young top footballers wanting to leave the goldcoast in the next couple of years.

IF we were still set on getting Martin, we still have time to reload contracts to fit him in. $650k across 5 years isn't wildly extravagant in the current landscape, but the $1 million front end loading is.

AFL.com article basically says the fact that we can still re-organise contracts means the door isn't totally shut on us, but GC is effectively ruled out:

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P
