Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Leaked to the media according to Jake Lever. Presumably by a participant at the meeting? A bit of unrest amongst the playing group? Just reading between the lines.

This is what concerns me as much as our form. Pre Roos/PJ era we leaked like a sieve but under their reign you never heard a peep from the inner sanctum.

This info would not have been leaked if they were still in charge.

Hmmm, a blunt message from the senior players?  To the few who have performed this year?   Certainly all players need to run both ways but senior players (Viney, Jones and Gawn) have done far less in the middle than Oliver, Brayshaw and Salem.

Going on Brayshaw's comments after the game that all players need to buy in (ie he doesn't think they are) is hard to reconcile with he, Oliver and Salem getting wrapped over the knuckles.

One wonders if it Sunday was really a 'finger pointing session'.

I hope the senior players game themselves a 'blunt message' or commit to the young guys how they are going to lift their game in the middle.    Otherwise poor leadership.

The kids can't do all the work.  They need help.

I don't like the comments from Brayshaw and harmed about players not buying in to the need for 2 way running.

And I don't like the media around our so called honesty session. Surely they could have kept that in house .

And I don't like the mixed messages from goody. First he says injury and fitness not an issue. Judge us on our performance. Then following a crap performance where our lack of spread and two way running, particularly from our mids,  he points out that every mid had been in rehab at some point over summer.

Together it all gives a sense of a club, if not in crisis, at the least not rowing in the same direction. Which is crazy after such a terrific, united season last year.

At the risk of drawing too long a bow this sort of poor external  communication is an extension of our appalling comms to fans though our website and other channels.

To be honest I think pert has some questions to answer. Comms is well and truly in his balliwick.

Actually, just in that one line Harmes is saying a lot. Firstly, he's saying that he is aware that not everyone is buying in yet. That suggests to me he knows which players haven't yet bought in. Secondly, he's saying that he's also aware that there has been insufficient effort in defending. He's not identifying anyone or any particular group (ie, not just the defenders), but he's aware of where the problem lies. In that one line, he's showing awareness. I like it.

I wouldn't get too worked up about what the coach says to the media.  He said injury and fitness is not an issue before the match to bolster some confidence with supporters though he knew what he said afterwards was the truth (or at least part of it).  I'm hoping players have enough sense to only listen to what they are told within the club.  What is said publicly is all fugazi and trite nonsense just to keep the AFL in the public eye.

Brayshaw said the same thing after the game, yet it is they, Oliver who had the blowtorch applied to them by 'senior players' in the honesty session.  Now HS and The Age are also getting stuck into those kids (and to a lesser extent Viney).

Seems our mids and our 'senior players' don't see it the same way.

That's the problem. I don't go there. Ever. As a fan it should be the very first place i go for a range of information about the club.

Instead if i want to know something about club (eg links to pressers, links to radio interviews, links to articles, training times, game information,  discussion about training, even blood y photos of training!) i come to Demonland

Puff pieces have their place. Ours are rubbish and that's ok. But they are just one thing i want from my clubs website For a start how hard its to say keep a running list of Demon related media, with working links. Or regularly upload photos of training (and more than 6). A work experience kid could do it for pete's sake.

A website is a critical communication outward facing tool for any organisation in 2019. Ours is an embarrassment and poor reflection on our club and so called brand.

Cannot comment on MFC site as I go to it about 3-4 times a year just for game info etc. Never read anything else.

Honestly, didn't take much for MFCSS to rear its ugly head.

Has nobody been paying attention for thelast four years? This is a journey, and it's not 2013.

Cant believe some think they actually didn't review the prelim, or that the players were drinking their own bathwater, or that our coach is unable to learn and grow, and game plan is set in stone.

Let's wait until the seadon ends (just like last year!) before making our assessments on this season.

The supporter group needs to grow up

The reason that the PF keeps getting mentioned is that it is the coach himself who said that he did not discuss the match with the players due to the fact that the result was due to the team not playing our brand of footy.  Simply put, the defeat was due to the team not executing its game plan rather than our game plan being exploited.  Many have quite justifiably questioned this assessment.

In all matches this year, opposing coaches have done the same thing as the  Eagles. Other factors may be at play as well such as 6/6/6, injuries, unavailability and poor form, but rightly the game plan is being seriously questioned and discussed.

I agree that the final judgment will come at year end.

Bagging individual players or the coach is poor form, but most posters have objectively tried to comment on what they have seen to-date. Some go overboard but that's human nature.

Most of us were anticipating great things this year. Perhaps we had unrealistic expectations,  but it is understandable that supporters are very disappointed with the results so far and the way we have played.  And this website is a vehicle for comment and discussion.

not sure why people are panicking about our season. Carey reckons we have the next five in the bag!!

All fair points, but there's no way they didn't review it. For sure Goodwin has and is trying to learn from his and their mistakes. He is still learning how to balance media speak with his coaching duties, and I'm fairly sure that comment was to do with reinforcing the good habits that got us to the prelim, not dismissing the result of it.

As for this website being a vehicle for comment and discussion, I am making a comment towards the general discussion. That's allowed, right? I just reckon too many succumb to the negative groupthink too easily. What we saw last year was growth and improvement. I feel very confident we will see the same this year and am not going to hit the panic button because of the trauma we have all endured over the years.

This group has absolutely nothing to do with teams of the past and, in my view anyway, earned themselves enough credit last season for us to give them more leeway than just three rounds.

Apologies if I came across as overly dismissive of the (somewhat) objective commentary. Stick fat Dees and support based on what we've seen over the journey, not just the recent bumps in the road. The media will do that for us, we don't need to join them.

I am a fan of Oscar Mc but what he did on friday night was just plain dumb.

Having now watched the entire game back on TV, since I was at the game and obviously miss things there, I was absolutely stunned at Oscar on several occasions leaving his man and running to no mans land in between 2 Bombers and forcing Frost to try and run back to cover for him, thereby leaving his man.

No wonder they had loose men and got uncontested marks in the forward 50, it was just ridiculous.

Then, when 2 backs jumped for the ball and Devon Smith is lurking behind the pack, near the Bombers goal, what does Josh Wagner do, he mans up on Smith, NO, he goes 3rd man up, leaving Smith to goal from the crumb. Wagner did this several times too.

Either our Coaches are dumb, or our players are or they all are.

Manning up in those situations would have saved several goals and probably have seen us winning, despite the umpiring.

Seriously, this is under 8 's stuff. How the hell is it allowed to happen.

Lastly, Jetta, has lost all pace, Hibberd and Jones have lost their kicking disposal, our key forwards lead to the wrong spots, our small forwards are slow, can't kick goals and are not applying enough pressure to keep the ball in our forward 50 and our mids don't help defensively.

Viney has no confidence from 30 out and passes to players in worse positions.

Max has no help.

Fix all that and we can make the finals and still have a good year.

completely agree. although it wasn't just O Mac.  Was very noticable in the first Q.  we had the situation under comtrol as Essendon attack and then defenders run off their man when there is no need to. wtf, is that a team rule?!?   the easiest of kicks over the top

you would not get away with this in under 12s.  just embarressing

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
