Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

MFC as a club under Jackson achieved many things and reached the finals for the first time in 11 years.  I always trusted Jackson with his vision and putting the club back in the black.  I trust Mahoney and believe he is destined for bigger things.  I trust the board because they have set the club on the right path.  I trust our recruiters because they have brought in talent.  I trusted Roos for what he achieved in 3 years.  I trust Goodwin because he has what it takes to eventually become a great coach.

I do not have faith in Misson because the team look slow and unfit.

I do not trust the playing group because they rely just on talent and do not work hard enough for each other.

I do not subscribe to our so called depth.  Our second tier players are good VFL players but mostly fail when given the opportunity.

I trust our off field team, but do not trust the playing group, they get beaten too easy and year in year out lose the games they should win.  They lack hardness and killer instinct.  They also fail to adhere to structures.  Until they play well consistently and win regularly, they cannot be trusted.

The Melbourne brand seems to be in name only.  The real Melbourne brand is what we are seeing in 2019, that’s what MFC supporters recognise more than the brand that gets talked about by coaches etc.

I look at the list and look at the talent on the list and ask how are we still playing like a bunch of losers!

Something is still wrong at this club, cannot pinpoint it, however until supporters can turn up with confidence the Team cannot be trusted.

Trust can be earned and trust can be lost. You can rebuild trust with the footy public.

My concern is the love for the club. I'm a 3rd gen demon, and after witnessing the last 15 years of tripe my family and I have started losing that love for the club we have supported our entire lives. And I'm not alone here, I've spoken to so many demon fans who are just over it.

My son wants to follow Geelong, and how could I blame him. How many generations of demons fans are we going to keep losing?

It's just hard to continue to love a club that doesn't offer the excitement of finals footy and premiership flags.

The thing is last year they showed how they can play. This year we are back to square one again, the Melbourne of old.

This club seems to have Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde syndrome in that you just don't know which one your going to get year after year.

I'm not sure what the hell is going on behind closed doors at the moment? But i sure hope they start to wake up and find their spark again, or it's going to be another long year.

I signed my new grandson up this year!  Now the whole family feels so damn angry. I think love for the club is on the decline.  They disappoint far too much.

I love this club just as much as I did the first time I realised who we were. Ill always buy my memberships, always be biased around my mates and always watch and cheer us on. Supporting sometimes isn't easy, but that's life. Sometimes players work out, sometimes they don't. Same goes for coaches, trainers, physios etc. Sure, I want the very best at our club, but nobody is perfect. Not everything will click and work all the time.

The emotions go up and down but my support and my commitment to the club will never waiver.

Edit - and about the trust aspect - I have no reason not to trust anyone at the club.  The medicos haven't had a great run, but we have no idea of the inner workings of the club, so I don't really want to sink the boots in when I know nothing about it.  I have no reason not to trust Goodwin, coaches, players, etc. with what they've done with the club as a whole over the last 5 years or so.

I just find it amazing and truly strange that regardless of personel of both players and  administration, over 55 years we have always had the same traits.

Flaky under pressure.

Expectation kills us every time.

Why???

it worried me me last year when Goodwin did not analyze the Preliminary Final massacre, his coaching got ripped apart...

We are still seeing it 6 months later

After 48 years i have yet to see us recruit the odd champion, or go after rising potential champions and silk...ruthlessly!

Our ability to recognise what is missing and where the holes are and recruit to fill in order to take us to the ultimate has been pretty ordinary and in many years abominable until the Roos era.

We are RIGHT NOW....in a premiership window.

We lack a genuine KPF.  This is a must get IMO.

We lack some speed on the inside and a stack of speed on the outside.  Now more critical since the introduction of 6/6/6.

We seem to have the uncany ability to recruit athletes who look good running around with ball in hand but who don't have many football smarts and turnover kings.

Outside of Jeffy, when he decides to go, we have no other genuine small forward with genuine zip, finish and defensive two way running/tackling and we also need at least one speedy classy outside mid to join Fritsch on the other wing.

We have always lacked classy finishers by foot in general play and in front of goal with a few exceptions over the decades.

While we have the odd player developing in this regard such as Fritsch, and Clarry is hopefully on his way to becoming a champion, i can't see us winning the ultimate prize unless this club gets ruthless and goes after key players to fill these roles.  We also need to recruit players with excellent kicking skills as a bottom line, especially left footers.

One player in mind to start filling the gaps....Jeremy Cameron.  He's up in 2020 and offers the opportunity to secure a genuine key power forward with size who can finish off our good work up the field on a consistent basis.

I will have more trust IF i see the Coach & FD waking up to these glaring gaps and the change that 6/6/6 brings and starting to recruit/trade accordingly.  The longer i see  "ho hum, steady as she goes, nothing to see here, we just need to work on this and that" coaching mantra the less trust i will have.

I had faith in Roos/ Jackson.  I could see progress.

I have none in this lot to tell the truth...

This is all about to unravel before our eyes imho.

This is not MfCss . The very foundations from the rebuild...the reinstitution of basic footy values, the realisation you need skills and a game designed to protect and score...well.....melted in the snow.

I can see the pseudo success of last year was an illusion. We essentially blind sided a number of teams and bullied out wins. We lucked out with some teams having off days. It looked good but it was a false dawn.

We have a walking wounded list early into the season...and partly by design. We have a game plan that's laughable. We have tortoises crawling one direction whilst opposition run circles....

We have players devoid of basic skills. We have players devoid of essential fitness. You'd think this was suburban amateurs for God's sake..

We've had a whole off season to develop a strategy to take advantage of 666. We play ignorant dumb football.

Some of our coaches should be on fraud charges.

I'm a  member. I've supported this club for 55 years. I've earnt the right to be cranky and critical.

For a team all but universally touted as contenders to be 3 and zip is comical .

But it's ok. .... actually...it's not.

Our position is deplorable. There is undoubtedly more pain to come.

Norm Smith uttered those famous words..'I am Melbourne' . I'd like to echo that sentiment. I will never follow another team but I find it very hard to get very excited about our current prospects or club makeup.

These are my thoughts. Each to their own.

Do I trust the current regime to deliver ? No, not one iota. Some good intent has been derailed. I might be wrong. I hope I am.

Go Dee's.. sometime.... eventually maybe.

Right now I see a team/club which moves a bit like a long chain dangling either side of a pulley.

As soon as one 'side' of this metaphorical chain has even a little bit more weight on it, the chain begins moving faster and faster until it is hurtling over from the accumulating weight of the chain on that side.

We either successfully break our opponent's confidence, concentration and structure, or we fail to do so and immediately lose our own confidence, concentration and structure.

We pile on inside-50s in the hope that their defence breaks under the pressure and holes appear everywhere, resulting in a rapid avalanche of goals for us. But if they keep their composure, we find ourselves unable to cope with the pressure of a constant stream of rebound-50s, we end up with holes everywhere, and an avalanche of goals against us.

Having Lever and May back in might save a few goals a game. Having game time and fitness into our pre-season-sore midfielders might tip the balance our way during games a bit more often. But I jut can't bring myself to feel much comfort from either of these things.

Like I said in the 'bullying' thread - it is how you behave when things are against you, that decides whether you are actually good or not.

I for one have complete trust in the club and FD, and a few games aren't going to change that - even a season won't change that.   Unlike some (many?) here I never thought we were a premiership club this year - or even next for that matter. We need to get a couple more seasons (and preseasons) into players like Weideman, Salem, Harmes, Petty etc. for that to happen. You're never going to win a premiership when your key players (Viney, Oliver, Brayshaw, Gawn and a few others) are still on/under 100 games, you need close to double that.

People here talk about the players getting ahead of themselves. Mirror?

Agree R N. So there are two of us who think we need a KPF. We cleared a good one and  have no replacement.

Actually...yes..we did somewhat fluke it. We struck gold for 5 mins....then everyone worked us out. I mean...it's really not that hard...we play a very simple game.

Don't confuse the abilities and attributes of some with results. Some gifted players. Not many.

You're welcome to whatever you believe. That's your choice. You're welcome to it

It's not mine.

Don't get me wrong, I love T-Mac's effort and finish when he's on and fit OD.  I just think he should be the 2nd stringer behind a genuine KPF.  Something we don't have.  And yes, replacement very much needed.

Until it is mathematically impossible, i will continue to have faith that we will make the finals. I can see us being slaughtered by the Swannies though, and at 0-4 practically everyone will have given up on us. The week after is when we will start to turn it around imo

Im just gonna maintain the faith like i did last year when most in the footy world (including plenty on here) had written off our finals chances.

If im wrong, im wrong. At least i wont have wasted my time and energy getting angry like i used to. Getting too old for that [censored].

While there is life there is hope. I still trust the team to turn it around.

I hear you BB.  It's now up to Goody and Co. to break the mould.  They have it all in front of them and the basis of doing so but will need to wake up to the major deficiencies ASAP (if they haven't already!).

Using your reasoning up against clubs in a similar position  to us we must be the slowest team to develop and perhaps a team with the most floored characters amongst the players!  Other teams keep going past us!

As a club we have always been reactive, that is one of the clubs problems.

The coach that can get this club on the front foot will be the one to have some success.

It all started in 1965 when Richmond moved onto our turf and won games....

Gary Pert is right. We need a home...

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
