Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Reach | Let’s tear online bullying down

Fantastic initiative, especially as it continues Stynes connection with the club and Reach.

I think Max is now an ambassador for Reach so he can continue Jimmy's legacy, a legacy he feels a strong connection to as he does for the number 11.

The message is a bit distorted: Demons to run through 'Mean Tweet' banner....which have been directed at them.   It is what the club said but not what the real message is ie bullying in the AFL and Reach Foundation..

Other headlines would help the cause more:   Demons banner Against Bullying;  Demon's banner to Support Reach Foundation.   And, say it is to raise funds for Reach and given the donation contact details.

Can just see the likes of Cornes and Wallace use that headline to push their 'Demons should stop complaining' narrative.

Edit:  Perhaps, the club could have chosen a better twitter caption than 'negative tweets aimed at our players over their careers' to 'negative tweets to AFL/W players' - a broader agenda.

Can't believe Reach is now 25 years old. In these times of media and online bullying we need them more than ever before, unfortunately. We also need great, compassionate men like Jim Stynes. Miss him.

Meh.

Fully support Reach and the impact of cyber bullying.

But Melbourne players should harden up. I don't pay money and time to have a social outing at the football. I come to see the team either win or put in.

So the impact of cyber bullying applies to everyone. Except the players of course, they should cop it because we aren’t playing well right now.

Right.

Back to planet earth now - fantastic initiative. No one should have to put up with insidious bullying by losers hiding behind computer screens.

Way to overreact, just like the AFL.

I read and watch the news everyday. I know what's happening in the world.

I enjoy football and the MFC to escape all this rubbish. I can't do that anymore because it's about pushing the current agenda down our throats.

Well, the club and the AFL thanks you for your years of support and wishes you all the best in finding your new happy place

you make some good points, jack

too much social engineering from the afl (and clubs) risks ending up with confusion and seeming to be patronising

i agree footy is basically escapism and there are limits to pretentious role-making fabrications

I see no problem with organisations taking some responsibility and using their platforms for the betterment of society. This is hardly virtue signalling, they are just saying bullying is bad. What’s the problem?

didn't say it was bad, just thought jack raised some good points, and also tried to make the point that there are limits to this sort of stuff for what is primarily a sport where people see it as a sanctuary from their day to day problems

i can assure you smokey, that if i wish to be informed and up to date on social issues, a football club would be the last place i'd go looking for any substance

Ever consider the fact the target audience for this may be kids who don’t stay up to date on news like us adults do? It ain’t all about you, friend.

i should perhaps add that i find it a little bit hypocritical for footballers to rail against bullying and on the field try every trick to physically and mentally intimidate their opponents. I'm specifically talking about the stuff that's not part of the game.

now i'm a big boy and i can easily separate what i see on the field from the message they are trying to impart on the banner and on videos etc

but..........try to explain to my 7 yo grandson the difference between the treatment max got against port adelaide and the bullying he sees at the schoolyard

I’d actually prefer the AFL and clubs just concentrated on the game rather than attempting to be a moral compass for all of us.

Wheres my Nobel peace prize

Before they hand you a Nobel peace prize, dare I suggest onlines users - use the block or ignore function? Or would that be called 'victim blaming' in this day and age? Deadset. MFC supporting a cause that could be largely prevented by just using basic common sense. Ironic that MFC supports a cause that could be prevented by using basic common sense, because we are 0-2 and its largely because we haven't used our basic common sense. Stupid campaign, waste of time and virtue signaling. Poor form MFC.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
