Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

There are better early draft picks down here and it is more familiarly territory. Someone should start a thread on 2019 early draft prospects!

That's it OD..

All we need are some decent draft picks....

Those kids will save us....

They'll be our way back to glory....

(sarcasm font /) I don't think our situation is anywhere near as bad as it seems. Our aim is to win the Premiership, to do this we need to beat a WCE or Colliingwood in GF, to be able do this we need to to win at least two finals and to do this we need to win at least 12/13 games with healthy percentage.

We can win the next 3 while improving to then take on Richmond for Anzac Eve and then we are 4 - 2 and back on track, with Lever, J Smith, Vanders and Hannan to work back in and establish in our best 22. All is not lost. (sarcasm font /end)

Fixed ;)

Truth is,  we should never stop looking forward to the draft and trade.   It should coincide with our attention on the H&A season.  Whether we are at the pointy end, or the fat end of the ladder.

I must be watching a different team. Our coaches have built a team which is all and only about about the inside contest. It's all gladiatorial stuff. We haven't an outside game. We don't really have the players for that "style's.

So I'm not as convinced as your good self that this FD are particularly open-minded. In fact I'm inclined to think they're the absolute opposite and only budge from their road of thought begrudgingly..

Time will tell.

We might have a bit if talent but I don't see a game plan that's going to win a GF...not now.

We're one way flat track bullies in a way.

We've lost the ability to cover our backsides...and we can't kick a sausage to save ourselves.

Quite frankly we're an embarassing mess at the moment.....and cherry ripe for picking over by any team with aspirations and better coherency.

I concede I often have a very different view from many here.I don't shy from it

I'm so reminded of Icarus.

its never as good, and never as bad. Beez.

We have players that can play run and carry,  but many have struggled to play the hard contested brand ... so they suffer from confidence.  Some will come on,  'blossom'  no doubt,  now with 666.   The open spaces will give them the thing they crave.  Room to move within, and function better.

Some will grow into themselves with the changes.

And some we have jettisoned, would have done well in the open spaces.

Here in lays a problem of understanding. ( Not you...just overall )

Outside players DON'T need to be actually contesting the hard ball. They do need to apply pressure.

We are far too one dimensional. Our Achilles heel.

The draft has not served us well. It is a lottery. Trades are where it is at. Watch Hawthorn, Geelong and Hawthorn.

No, we have failed the draft far too often...  we have made a an art form of mistakes at drafting and development.

Its not been the picks...  its the selections and the types,  and then the development of...  combined with club culture and leadership at that time.

We tend to go off.  And became a fat and lazy club too often,  and when we are in that space, we fail at nearly everything we touch.

It's a comfort zone we slip into,  after a period of relative success.

And usually associated with boards elected from in-house people.

We currently do not suffer from this situation,  because we've been blessed with talented leaders off-field,  at the behest of the AFL.

It's been that way since the start of 2018.

'We just' makes it sound simple.

It's a worrying trend and I can't see any positive change in any part of our game post the prelim final as of yet.

From 2-3 we went to 16-8 before we lost the prelim. That's a period of 14-5 doing the same thing. Of the 5, only one of them was a loss by more than 10 points.

Yes, the prelim was bad, but is it that surprising that we've approached 2019 by focusing on the 19-game stretch that got us into the prelim rather than the prelim?

It's surprising considering the rules have changed...that others have found us out and short on smarts.

It's surprising as the game does change yet we're stuck in the mud (mire)

and yet...not so surprising.

We're wasting some talented players by telling them to play dumb football.

  • 4 weeks later...

As I mentioned in another thread.

Lewis, Jones, Viney, Gawn, in particular, Hibberd, Jetta and TMac should be embarrassed.

I think what we are seeing now is a trend. Dating back to the Prelim. 8 weeks now of garbage.

That tells me we are looking at a bottom 4 finish, potentially last. Very harsh reality.

Does this mean the Roos rebuild was a failure? What does it mean of Goodwin?

We absolutely need to start looking at 2020 and beyond rather than salvaging this year as fans. We will surely win some games but it's astonishing how far we have fallen.

I've said it once and I'll say it again: so long as we have players from the Geelong 186 era on our list, we will disappoint and falter. Perennial losers.

On the bright side, at least this time we have bottomed out without expansion clubs coming in pillaging the draft

I'm actually hoping the club takes a good hard look at the mid season draft and unearths a player who will contribute next year and beyond.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
