Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

May will be injured and Oscar, Frost, KK, Lockhart, ANB, Sparrow don’t really look up to it whilst Weid, Jones, Hunt, Petracca, T Mc and even Hibberd and Fritsch are struggling.

It’s a disaster really. After 6 debuts in 2 weeks I don’t think kids are the answer although we probably need at least 1 more debut with a big bloke.

I’d probably go T Smith, Keilty, Stretch and C Wagner for Weid, May, ANB and Sparrow and move Jones to half back.

Seems a few are desperately trying to find a spot for Jones to reinvent himself.

Not sure if this is in the best interests of the side. He has had a spot for two weeks and under performed.

If he stays in, like everyone else he must perform.

A bit ominous for Viney?  "...icepack on his troublesome right foot during the post-game interview, but he said the treatment was only precautionary after he underwent ankle surgery at the end of 2018."  https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-03-31/demons-ready-to-bite-in-battle-of-hungry-teams

Viney's 27 possessions at 74.4% eff'y, 8 tackles and 8 inside 50's are a super effort for only 3/4 of the game while still not fully fit.  We needed him to step up this week; such a shame the team couldn't capitalise on his work.

Not suggesting he won't play next week but his ground time is still being managed:  a little over 2.5 qtrs last week and 3 qtrs this week?

Hope that in our desperation we don't push it too far.

Just get rid of Neal Bullen please.

His involvements last night were bizarre to say the least and the kid manages to kill momentum like nobody’s business.

Frustrates the absolute [censored] out of me.

Comfortably my most disliked player in over 30 years of supporting the club with his unnecessary look away handballs and tackling people in congestion that are going to be tackled anyway.  The worst part of him is that he refuses to put his head in the hole or to bodyline the ball or the players he is tackling.  He misses and doesn't stick so many tackles that would actually mean anything because of this and he never safely wins disputed ball.  An absolutely horrific player who looks half decent when we are dominating but who is a conman of the highest order.

I think we need to have our wingmen hold space at centre bounces and general play, then look to have our mids kick sideways/short to them to open up our fwd 50 more. We need to get it to the outside so weid and tmac can find the space to get on the lead inside f50.

Atm we are too predictable in our ball movement. Enough of just bombing down the middle from clearances. It just forms a pack inside 50 with all our blokes getting in each others way and then creates a lot of space for the oppo to run it out easily. With our lack of leg speed it plays into opposition hands and they can move it easily down field to score.

We need to spread, take more uncontested marks and move it more deliberately. So I'd be dropping the butcher's and bringing in the better kicks.

Out- ANB, Hunt, Sparrow, May inj.

In- Spargo, Baker, CWagner, hore

B- Jetta  Oscar  hibberd

HB- Salem frost  hore

C- Fritsch  harmes brayshaw

HF- Trac  weid  spargo

FF- Wagner tmac  melk

R- Gawn Oliver  viney

Int- lockhart kk Jones baker

Unfortunately Hore won't come in as he was carry over emergency & didn't play yesterday, so will need to go back to Casey.  Also I have only heard snipit's about Casey's game but apparently Spargo was disappointing........Baker maybe, but don't think so as he has missed a lot of preseason & we want match fit guys coming in.

Keilty, Pruess & Stretch obvious selections

Sparrow Has had a taste and will be a good player but not yet and cant be carried in a side under performing

Petracca needs to go back to Casey and get some confidence.  Can't mark, can't kick and can't chase and fumbles at the moment.

Neale Bullen - all at sea at the moment and can't get to where the ball is

Hunt - should have been left forward but now lost confidence and needs to go back to casey and played as a forward.  Let him get a couple of bags of goals and then bring him back as a defensive forward.

B Jetta McDonald Keilty

HB Hibbert May Frost

C Viney Oliver Salem

HF Melksham Weid Tim Smith

F Lockhart McDonald Preuss

R Gawn Harmes Brayshaw

Int  KK Jones Fritsch  Baker

Of the doubtfulls

May gets benefit of the doubt due to corky but has to attack the ball more and no silly free kicks in front of goal

Jetta maybe carrying an injury, but too good to throw out.  He'll come good

Keilty deserves a chance to show what he's got

Frost  Makes blunders but there is a lot of upside when he goes well.  Gives better balance as 3rd tall

Weid - we just have to persevere

Tim Smith - At least he can take a mark and certainly adds pressure

Lockhart -  did enough and you don't drop a kid on 1 game unless he has a shocker

Preuss - The only time their back line looked under pressure was when Gawn went forward and 2 or 3 had to go up against him.  They have to try it at some stage.  McD and Weid are good runners so you don't lose too much defensive run in our forward line.

Jones and Fritta are making mistakes but at least they are getting the ball

KK looked ok but went missing too much.  Deserves at least 2 games.

Baker is a taller and quick midfielder who can't do any worse than  the ones left out.  They might want him to do more game time at casey , but I'd take the chance.

Keilty has been playing forward ruck and has been showing enough to be ahead of what pruess showed in jlt.

Agree completely with leaving t-mac forward, but the effective disposal is also to blame on our key forwards and coaches, they need to make space for each other and charge out and demand the kicker to attempt the kick. Jogging around the forward 50 all flying in the same pack didnt work last year and isnt going to work this year. Which brings my next question, t-mac started well both games leading and taking marks all over the ground, but ran out of gas pretty quick and reverted to wanting it bombed on his head, he was always in the top group in pre season time trials, has his toe taken away his ability to get the miles in taking away one of his top strengths?

Pruess in, would weaken our forward pressure way to much, its poor now. he struggled running out a half in jlt 1, Keilty offered more up forward and competed in the ruck, while smashing pruess around the ground. It would also keep at least 2 kpp playing as forwards stopping the opposition backman outnumbering our talls.

Good observations scarlett.

Hore will come in for May as he was the carryover.

And for those saying Keilty to play back, he has trained as a Key Forward all preseason and that’s where he’s played the last 4 games. There’s Hore and Petty in front of him so there’s no chance of him playing as a defender.

Hes had 2 strong games in the VFL and Goody gave Keilty a mention in his presser so hopefully Friday night at the G will finally be his debut.

And a deserved debut drunkn. Dec has put himself clearly in front of new recruit pruess. Last year he would have good moments in quarters, so far this year it seems something clicked and is finding himself more involved between those moments. Hope he can continue his trajectory.

Inside 50s to burn but fizzled. No clever small with pace to crumb, goal, and apply pressure to the rebounder. Who sorts this out? No outstanding tall to take a mark and goal. Noticed when Gawn rested late first quarter the Cats got easy goals. Maybe bring Preuss in to assist in the ruck and Gawn to play a little more forward. Obviously lacking composure but not sure how to fix this - maybe a confidence thing?

Omac needs to go back to the 2s to get some confidence and skills but unfortunately I don’t think it will happen.

Not sure what it is but he has more lives than a cat.

It's not so much about reinventing Jones but using what he still has - experience and ability to know where the ball is going - as well as adding what the team needs which is that experience at half back to make sure the set ups are right and hopefully control possession.

That said, the wing was always a reinvention for him and I was never convinced it would work. Back or forward made more sense to me. Lewis had that position at half back but if he's out Jones should have a go at it.

We also don't have near 22 players who are performing, so we should be working out which players can contribute in roles that make others better. Be it physicality, leadership, unrewarded running etc.

Hunt isn't finished at Melbourne. We need his run. We need his run out of our backline, as he was good last week at times. Why did he look so ordinary tonight (among many?). Because we had no structure or game plan running the ball out of our backline. When Hunt looks good its when he has space. How do we get him space? Get the ball in the hands of Salem who can find him space. Tonight Salem locked down Ablett early and we had rushed players like Hibberd and rusty players like May kicking out. So you say Hunt is finished at Melbourne, but take him out and we still lack run, and its not Jayden Hunt's fault that he isn't getting that space.

So you want to move Keilty up forward? Based on what? Its speculative and desperate. Tom McDonald has actually shown something up forward. Keep him there. He isn't our problem. Our problem is our lack of effective disposal inside forward 50. If Tom McDonald had clean disposal coming into him he'd be kicking straight and there would be no problem. MFC have a big problem, but it isn't our players, its our coaching and their lack of structure and planning. We have have the best ruck in the game, the cleanest first touch mid in the game - Oliver - yet we are still hacking it inside forward 50. So something is either going wrong from Gawn to Oliver, or Oliver to forward 50, and if that is no Oliver substitute that for Brayshaw. These guys hack the football when they need to be working as a unit to dispose the ball effectively into our forward 50.

It's not wining the contested ball thats the issue...  it's quality of the clearance away from the contest that's the biggest issue.   And we need receivers in good position so they can run and go with the footy. Delivering well.

We're at our best when TMc plays high through the midzone and pushes back into F50.  He can turn things into mismatches, taking marks on re-entry.

Having Keilty in F50 to take away extra attention on Weide is a good idea.  2 focal points,  as long as they don't crowd one another.

Keilty can give Gawn a chop-out,  allowing Gawn forward for a spell.  Again creating problems for the opposition backs.

But we need more mosquito fleet...  and no Tracca forward to slow us up.

I don't know everything about footy, but what I do know is that the players HATE being carryover! Reason why......because they know that as carryover & missing a week of footy, they have to go back to Casey to re-gain form, momentum, fitness etc.

I will bet my left nut that M Hore will be playing for Casey next week.

Petty & Keilty deserve to play......good luck to them.

Spot on. Had a couple of nice kicks against Port, competed well in the air, put his head over it and looked like the running wasn't too much for him. I'd say at this stage with any kind of decent development he should be at least a guy who carves out a career. Certainly way too early to say whether he'll be good or not.

We're getting a pretty rude reminder right now that development of players isn't linear.

Petracca, Stretch, Kolo, Fritsch, Weideman, Hunt, ANB, Joel Smith, Oscar are all in that 22-24 year old range and we don't even know what they are or will be over the next few years, yet alone the 18 year olds.

Yep, he is.... just with 200 extra games under his belt as he gets to the end of his career.  Which is nothing like what Grimes did.

Its a bizzare comment... and a disgrace to even put Jones in the same bracket as Grimes. I thought Jones played well last night.

I still feel he can add to our inside on ball brigade at times though.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
