Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I won't be holding my breath on this, but if Jeffy Garlett was to get his head right and knuckle down, he could have a 50 goal season. Has the ability to do the unbelievable, but goes missing way too often

I'd love him to recapture that 2016, 2017 form.  He's capable of it, but can he do it consistently within Goody's system?  There is a spot there with his name on it if he wants it badly enough.

I know the thread is about who we think but i will suggest whom I think we need to take the next step to improve further this year.

Lever and May will really shore up the back line.

Given that no one goes backwards, in my mind, if The Weid can kick around the 35-40 goals this season we will prosper. T-Mac is a good forward - we need a second big man in the forward line. I'm not sure he will but this is my hope.

Some stereotypes are tedious, I think it shows a lack of intellectual vigour. I am surprised that you think a poster that goes by the name Balls Grinter needs your help, perhaps she is your little sister or you have two names on here and you are Balls. You know that is not allowed don't you? How could you know "that 'Balls' refuses to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed person, " if it were not you? Anyway Balls you know what they say about people from Adelaide.

The term is: 'intellectual rigour', not 'vigour', ManDee.

Your assumptive claims remain mere adjectival efforts to transpose to others some associative limitations and become somewhat predictable, so I was expecting your gnashing of teeth at my throat for any further generalisations that you might hold. Thank you for not disappointing. As for R'B'G, I for one find his comments and impressions stimulating, and thought-provoking  which demands rather frequent cross-fertilisation within this medium, and we often share elements of thought on the MFC in this anonymous ether of disparity and concurrence. Have a lovely day.

No need to cite a text, it is part of my profession to standardise with 'the Oxford' although I concede that some with overt limitations still need analogies and colloquialisms to cope with what is actually inked onto paper, as it were. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Perhaps the biggest upside player is kolodjahsnij.

I have no idea what to expect. He had a good one or two years at the Suns but recent form is plagued by injury. Could he do a Brayshaw and shine...hope so.

Time for Petracca to show his skills.

Of the others Hunt probably has a fair upside but I'm not holding my breath.

On the question of upside I think we saw a big improvement last year in the coaching staff. I think they need to take themselves to that next level as well, especially in the overall area of building a culture of success and respect. That second aspect is vital as we saw with the Australian men's cricket team.

Balls you seem to have a bit of a chip on your shoulder, get over it. Perhaps the stereotype that if you went to a public school therefore you are, tough, stupid and from a lower class family fits? But I don't buy that, time to give up the private school stereotypes and I won't call you a Range Rover driver from Mt Buller.

touchy MD.

Do you agree that there is a big percentage of Private school lads,  who have a lot of arrogance and self about them ?

I also have the feeling if Stretch can stay healthy his speed will be beneficial, especially when we're in transition.

Someone like Salem who was an improve last year could even go up another cog? I think the elephant in the room is how Weid will go. If I could choose one for this season it would be him.

A bit of a cheap shot, maybe, but I think the sterotypes fits pretty well for the players sighted.  Obviously there will always be exceptions.

I probably do have a bit of a chip on my shoulder about private schools.  In a sporting context, they are forever poaching the cream of the tallent out of the local leagues to make themselves look good.  Out of those mentioned by @FarNorthernD I'm tipping that May and perhaps Cyril were probably candidates for this kind of thing.  Going through suburban junior footy, we would regularly lose a large numbers of team members to private school football duties.  That and the general elitism of the private school system doesn't sit well with me in general.

Anyways just my perspective.

I was responding to this

- "Watts is around 12kg heavier than Fritsch, yet the level of physicality they play with is the inverse of their respective weight, so I don't think it's such a huge issue -- Coldstream EDFL Vs Brighton  Grammar private school boy mentality.

I think many stereotypes are unhelpful. I probably could have worded it better.

I don't know the reasons why Rioli and May ended up at Scotch and Melbourne Grammar respectively, but rather than "poaching talent" maybe those schools were giving scholarships to indigenous kids to give them a better chance of an improved education compared with what may otherwise have been their lot.

nah you worded OK.

But the irreverence is for  'Wattshisface'...  and his pure lack of commitment to the game,  after many have tried so hard to help him in his career.

I have a friend who is uncommitted to all, but himself..   (not private school)...  And if he feels you are not on HIS team,  he will try to undermine you, Via others.   And has done so. I struggle to understand someone who will not try, or take the challenge to try to improve,  when you put it on them,,,  but then they will turn on you,  and try to discredit you in others minds.

Just for daring to ask them to try harder ?

My mother had Polio from 8Yrs of age,  and she would take us kids to school on the bus  (driver having to get off the bus, to help mum up the Bus steps),  Her efforts were heroic, I would grow to appreciate.

So when you try to help someone...  and they just sneakily try to hurt you in return, behind the schemes. is totally foreign to me. ????????

I shake my head with disillusionment.

I partially accept what you are saying here and I'm not going to be soo polarizing as to suggest that there are not instantaces of good intentions and mutual benifit, although it's also a bit presumptuous to assume that they wouldn't have nessasrily got a good education where they were [not that any of the rest of this conversation is based on any presumptions on my behalf ? ].

I still think you would find pleanty of examples of talented sportspeople being cherry picked off by the private school system to make themselves look good though.

Anyways my original post was a simple statement said partly in jest and I don't intend it to clog the thread with the discussion any further.

Vanders is an automatic selection, he just needs his body to jump out of the ruck as you put it and stay fit for a whole season.

Was instrumental in our late season surge.  Some were suggesting before he played "what if he makes it back, he could be our finals X factor" and beyond expectations - he did.

He won't be our early season x factor.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
