Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Good thing is that we’re ironing this stuff out early in the season, Clayton and Vanders were deliberate - good to send the message early. May on the other hand was just unlucky - probably should appeal..

Bottom line is, it was a silly thing to do.

I like that he plays the line, but if he keeps crossing it, it will hurt the team. Should know better. Really disappointing.

Jaded, i dont think May crossed the line.

The AFL media machine has what it wants, a controversy on the eve of the season. We will appeal and May will be free to play round one, but not before it sends the fans into raptures and gives the media something to fill the media cycle.

Relax, we've got this.

As I said in my initial post Megatron, I'm not arguing the merit or otherwise of the decision, however I'm not convinced that all May did was block / body check or brace himself for contact.  To my eye, May led with his shoulder and was off the ground at the point of contact.  That was unnecessary, and likely to be costly.

Being on the ground or off the ground is irrelevant.

The only thing that's relevant is where contact was made.

I bloody hope so, all he did was brace for impact.

To be honest, I'm not sure why people are surprised.

He offered to bump and got him high. People who are saying who didn't get him in the head need to re-read the rule book before posting. high is anything above the shoulders. So the throat is high.

And you cant argue that he was just standing still and was run into. he leant into him. Leaving the ground etc. is irrelevant.  he offered to bump and got him high.

Unfortunately I think the biggest factor in this ridiculous judgement ("the look"? Come on! I have seen much worse passed over.) is May's previous record. If they go to the Tribunal on the merits of this incident alone he should get off, so please Melbourne, appeal. The act wasn't intentional, so his club should back him up. It should be a fine, going by the other cases of "intentional" strikes from the same round.

If May offers a bump, and Berry accepts it, he can't cry about it later when it hurts a little.  He needs to turn the offer down and run around him instead.

May should stop offering bumps to the opposition, though.  They can't handle it.

It's stupid play by May.

You can't deny he moves towards berry to make contact.

Yes, he wouldn't be suspend if he played for collingwood or essendon. Yes, he wouldn't be suspended if his name was dangerfield or selwood. And yes, it's horribly inconsistent, and will undoubtedly be inconsistent with other decisions from that moron christian this year.

But May stupidly put himself in the position to be judged by an inconsistent system.

Control what you can control.

It was dumb. I hope someone is privately tearing strips off him, especially if he is on $900k a year. It was a practice game ffs!

Yes and no imho

If he had lept into him it's intent .

He didn't..he just lent forward to brace the impact...as anyone might. No ?

The  suspension doesn't feel right  to me . I hope this is appealed by the club. It certainly wasn't intentional.

A connect to the upper chest missing the chin but head drops forward causing a love tap to the chin.                           No concussion there just a nice love tap.

I have seen worse incidents than this and opposition clubs have backed and appealed for their players and many have got off.

I reckon May will be fine. That Simon Goodwin commented on it indicates that he has the coaches support, especially given Goodwin generally plays a straight bat on such matters. Lets wait and see what the club does.

Also if we do appeal i believe the rules have changed so that May does not risk a longer suspension but instead the club have to pay a fine in the event we are unsuccessful.

I remember being incensed by some of Christian's decisions last year (not Melbourne players) and thinking the punishments were too lenient for some dangerous actions on the field. This year I will be following even more closely, and taking notes about his decisions because I cannot recall what I was so mad about. There seems to be many inconsistencies in his rulings, and some favouritism as well.

Agree. Love May's aggression & I believe he's a bit stiff, but with a [censored] record he has let his team mates down.

Just didn't need to go there.

What do u expect him to do? Jump out of the way? Goodwin would’ve given him more than one week for doing that.

You are allowed to block/body check a player from running through to receive the handball. There was no force for what May did. All he did was brace himself.

Actually you aren't allowed to do that at all. You are allowed to bump if the ball is within 5m but they cracked down on taking out a player that does the old give and go.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
