Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

A credit to all Melbourne Faithful

We who have suffered more humiliation than most, still believe in that almighty Demon.

70,000 is attainable as long as winning becomes a standard requirement, regardless of ladder position

One has to wonder how many memberships relate directly to sponsors and incentives.

From a revenue viewpoint it makes no difference if the sponsor gives us $100k or buys 3,000 three game memberships which they give away etc.

Similarly win games we give more.. make finals we give even more.

The reality is that it is probably a mix but it is there.

Trivia piece... At the famous merger meeting the MFC Board held more proxies through sponsor memberships than the rest of the attendees.

Hate to be reminded of this infamous plot orchestrated by certain Board members and sponsors.

A disgraceful action to circumvent member democracy and fair play.

Only the Hawks and the intervention of Gutnick and Dixon saved us from the ignominy of a merged club

DJ I know three members who are still members who voted for the merger. None had any connection to sponsors. All had passed  on their votes via proxy. I really don't want to open this subject again but a lot of loyal members believed it was the way forward.

The point of my post is that maybe 10k or thereabouts of our increased membership might simply be due to better sponsorship.

I'll wager a few that the NT government takes a swag of 3 game memberships that are given away.

Frankly the numbers are so rubbery it's time to use another measure.

If only the clubs were consistent in their accounting one could look at revenue per member and other useful measures.

Loosely related and on the theme of you think we have it bad, here's a great article from the Guardian on the fan impact of four English teams making the European play offs. A trip to Azerbaijan anyone ??

Really DJ there is always  a sceptic in any crowd that can deflate a mood or celebration.

And I am afraid you win this title by a handsome margin.

To dredge up something from a quarter of a century ago when the Club was under completely different structure and management upon recording our greatest membership total EVER you pour oil on still waters!

You have no proof from your post (nor have others) but the increase  of  9,000 new or first time members no doubt relates to our 2018 heroics!!! Also 1,000 new Juniors is fantastic.

Also by association you create doubt by your mischievous post on the noble and hard work largely by PJ and his Office over the last 6 /7 years plus  any MFC player, staffer and volunteer.

Some things are often left unsaid and this one opinion that would come into that category.

Unless you have any proof at all I suggest that that thread be discontinued from 70,000 Members thread and allow Perty to pursue with our reaching our targets.

Congratulations are  in order to all the old faithful the new members and any others about to begin on this journey.

Additionally the Club staff and Board and Executives are all to be commended richly on this result.

I am positive that after witnessing ONE minute of genius from our players on Saturday this season is still much alive  and will be a ride that PJ has said and all that we can be pleased to be on.

Go Dees

Never thought i'd see us crack 50,000 members. Like previously mentioned, not too sure i'd trust all 50,000 to be worthwhile memberships for the club (i don't think 3-game memberships should be part of the tally).

Nonetheless, a fantastic effort by all those who have signed on this year, particularly those who continue to sign on year after year. We're an insane lot............ doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results, but those of us who have stuck by the club are the most loyal fans in the entire comp.

And it's about time we have something to show for it!

I don't understand this point. Being a member of a club - whether it's a sporting club or some other type - means you want to associate with what that club stands for. It doesn't mean you have to attend or participate in all its activities. I'm happy to have anyone be a member of the club whether they want to attend games or not. Keep in mind there is a whole group of potential members who will never be able to attend a game because they are infirm, live overseas or in non-urban Australia or are just too nervous to watch games live.

There's a supplementary value from having people sign up as members whether they attend games or not. Sponsorship today is about the sponsors getting access to the club's database of members to enable direct marketing. The more members we have, whether they attend games or not, the more valuable that database of names becomes to enable larger sponsorship dollars.

A brilliant achievement by all members. Especially given we have been woeful this season.

Important to finish the season off well so we can maintain this momentum and try to get to 55k next season.

Here's a great article that normalises the finances of each of the EPL clubs. Allows for an easy comparison of the various revenue streams.

About time our journalists did the same for the AFL.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/may/22/premier-league-finances-club-guide-2017-18-accounts-manchester-united-city

The variations in "commercial revenues" are enormous. The lesser clubs earn around GBP10 M as compared to the mega clubs receiving GBP200M or more.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
