Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

the downside of the NRL night grand final.

Kids can't go as it finishes so late (and it's a "school night" in NSW).

Isn’t it played on the Sunday of the October long weekend?

When there is a vested interest in giving teams like Carlton undeserved Friday night fixtures then rusted on AFL supporters like myself who love watching a good game turn off in droves.

The AFL have treated their TV viewing supporters with contempt and have been paid back in kind.

They need to understand that it's the neutrals that make up the big numbers on prime slots.

Very lazy thinking and a little bit of funny biz (Who did the former Chairman play for? let me think a minute) at head office...

For those who want to see attractive open football without too much congestion,  the Carlton argument is not really a factor.  Many watch footy just because it is footy.  They don't care about the aesthetics and probably never have.  Crowds & memberships aren't a problem but the sport needs to be watched by neutrals through the broadcast platforms.

It's my belief that footy isn't losing any of it's core supporters or the rusted on types ... they are losing those who could 'take it or leave it' or those who just prefer to want to watch their own team play.

We don't talk enough about the great neutral games anymore rjay and that stopped a few years ago ... most of the chatter is about the officiating,  fantasy sports,  tribalism,  gambling and other factors.  Monday mornings for me used to be filled with conversations about how great the weekend's games were.

For a minority (maybe 15% - 20%) the game has to be spectacular to watch and for potential new viewers,  the same.  Footy now has a lot of competition for TV viewers and I'd prefer it if the sport was bullet-proof.

There was a good reason that the then VFL built an over-sized ground out at Waverley.  Over time,  the ground became a perfect sized ground for 36 players.  Back then,  the VFL showed great vision.  The Diamond/Square were great innovations as well (Waverley & the Diamond/Square happened at around about the same time)

Now,  there are just too many players on the ground and the grounds have effectively become even smaller with the professionalism of the sport.

15 or 16 a side with the rotations capped to 15 - 20 per team is my solution.  Not a new opinion either.  I watched our game on Saturday at Casey and the first thing that jumped out at me was that the ground is just way too small for 36 players.

Of course as the game grows in Asia as evidenced by the ever increasing attendance at the Port Dumpling match and the potential TV audience of 3 billion it is only fair to those legion of fans watching our game in Delhi and Shanghai that we move the GF to a more appropriate viewing time for their time zones.

As audiences increase in Africa we may consider a 10pm start in order to maximise world viewing audiences.

One has to remember that it is our obligation to take this game to the world!!

It's obvious from here in the cheap seats that Gil the Dill and Tricky Dicky favour a more "commercial" time.

It's also obvious they both need to leave the game alone.... actually they can both ...  off !!

Link between GF twilight:night and their own remuneration and bonuses?  One thing is for sure, the AFL is not prepared to take a stand against the broadcasters. Both men are softening us up for the cave-in.

I love this comment from the interview...

""We will welcome any initiatives from the AFL that allow more people to be at a game but really it is the AFL's call."

Yeah coz starting it later means we can squeeze 150k into the MCG. FFS dont these clowns actually think things through before they say [censored] ? At least be honest and say, " We want a twilight or night Grand final because of the increased Advertising Revenue"

No wonder trust in the media is at an all-time low.

The price paid for the Broadcast Rights was way to high. So i am not suprised Channel 7 wants to maximize it’s revenue intake

it all comes back to AFL Greed and their disgusting bloated salaries they pay themselves

the elephant in the broadcast rights is Foxtel. As I understand it they fund over 50% of the bid for what is perhaps 30% of the product.

The anti siphoning rules protect only the GF and we have seen with cricket how those rules can be manipulated.

One can just see the strategists at Foxtel gaming all the scenarios for the 2022 bid. Kayo ans streaming will be all important.

Could we have Optus and the like ambush marketing by taking the Friday night game.

The television scene will definitely change

I can't remember where I heard or read this but it definitely stuck in my mind. Hutchy's Croc Media are going to make a bid for the next deal, and then on sell bits and pieces and they will offer their own version of "kayo"

I can certainly see it happening, and they will have to sell off bits and pieces to the highest bidder to pay for it

that's the nightmare scenario for footy fans where not only is the bulk of football behind pay walls ... it's behind different pay walls requiring multiple subscriptions.

Have a look at soccer where in Australia Foxtel have the EPL games but Optus have the Champions League. A terrible result for fans.

0n the subject of change there is a move to eliminate the 5000 and 10000 metre races from the diamond league.

Each Olympics I find these the most compelling races from a tactical viewpoint but lets face it 10 -20 minutes without an ad break is a hard TV sell

Oh dear, I have been quoting George Orwell a few times lately, and I'm sorry, but I have to do so again. Comments coming from people in the television media and the AFL are scarily sounding like "newspeak". Welcome to Big Brother. He knows what is good for you, because you are too stupid to understand yourself what you want. Stop voting for a day Grand Final, a night Grand Final is best for you. "You are a slow learner, Winston."

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P
