Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I really wish the boys would stop saying "obviously" so much in interviews. It really is bothering me more than it should.

I've officially run out of meaningful things to complain about with regard to the Melbourne footy club - how good is that!

It's a bit of a pre-season puff piece, but I still like the fact that the boys aren't resting on their laurels and are looking for ways to improve even further.  The article mentions that Jack Viney is doing a 16 hour fast, by only eating between 12pm-8pm, so it's also good to see our leaders doing similar things and setting the standards.

Again, it's not much in terms of information, but it's always heartening to see the players pushing themselves further in the quest for a flag.

I seem to remember a story about quite a few of the boys in 2000 laying off the booze for a large part of the year.

Obviously.

But yes, going Sugar free can do wonders. My wife did it before she fell pregnant. She lost weight and kept it off like never before. Added a lot of lean muscle as well.

I wish I could follow suit. Sugar and beer (and bourbon)... killers for me.

AGREE! A prime offender is Michael Long - I heard him give an interview talking about great indigenous initiatives and literally every second word was 'obviously' which totally spoiled the message. Obviously.

What's the 16-hour fast meant to achieve?

They didn't elaborate and I'm as far from a nutritionist as you can get, so I won't assume too much, but as the article was all about getting skin folds down, it may relate to that.

I'm glad these guys have challenged each other to this sort of thing. Both players have had issues with their diets, with Brayshaw struggling to resist soft drinks in his first couple of years and Oliver's noted penchant for parmas (please don't try to tell me that it's "parmis") and chips. Hopefully this challenge will see continued improvement with their fitness.

If ever you were looking for a definition of "sacrifice", that's gotta be it!

I'll explain it but please don't take this as support for it, the science behind it is not definitive and I am not a dietitian.

The idea is to trigger the fasting reaction in your body. Both the 5/2 and the 16/8 attempt to do the same thing. There are some studies that indicate that the body does more cell regeneration when it does not have sufficient calories available to just create extra cells. Both diets attempt to trigger that reaction without total fasting, which most people can't sustain.

There is plenty of info on the net if you are interested.

Has "obviously" replaced the dreaded "yeah, no" in interviews now? Please say no. Not yeah.

Diets never work because they can’t be maintained. Balanced eating is the only long term solution. However, fasting has  been around for thousands of years as a recipe for good health. But these guys are professional footballers who need to eat sensibly, and eat healthy food in the right proportions particularly in the 48 hour period before games. Losing weight is beneficial for running but you need to know what you are doing. You would hope that the players in question are doing so in consultation and with the advice of Club doctors. It would be a concern if a couple of guys were doing it off their own back.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
