Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I agree Moon. I reckon he’ll have a breakout year. He played some good games toward the end of last year and he was just about our best in the practice match last week. He looked the goods today.

I think your heart has got in front of your head Megatron. He was one of the better players but not close our best. Did you not see Gawn or Brayshaw? His game was one of his best ones and would get him another game the next week. In my view he was 9th or 10 best which is a good game.

Just back from training - left about 11.45.

As reported KK and Hannan arrived early and did a bit of gentle running.  Both on light duties.

There were two match sim drills that I saw, Viney and May didn't participate in the first but did in the second. Both looked comfortable, particularly May.  TMac did the whole session.  Nobody else that I saw was on restricted duties.

I liked the look of Jordan, seems to have a lovely kick, he didn't miss one when I was watching and the conditions were difficult with a strong wind.

Any questions please  ask.

I'm glad Binman isn't coach, he would've called training off coz it was too hot. Some of you guys were so precious in the JLT thread saying the richmond game should be rescheduled etc. Ridiculous! You asked for proof and whilst its not 40 (just a few degrees off) not only was training not earlier (in fact later) they weren't even doing a light session.

Too small again OD?

Reckon JKH was top 5 last week

Today was another session in hot and windy conditions, lots of match sim and craft work

The tackling was very willing, you can tell Rd1 is close

Reckon we will see Goodwin having a look at as many players as he can over next 2 games

Safe to say neither Bedford or Chandler will be playing in Shepparton?

Not necessarily, they took part in the match sim as well

Nev did a bit one on one contest mentoring with Chandler and Jordon at the end of the session

Someone off DL has said the same, on quite a few training sessions. 'Better hands, he's in!' he reckons.

Even if I accept your fifth best that is still along way off best. I said a good game but was not anywhere near our best.

I liked the look of draftees that have good penetrating foot skills. Does Jordon seem passive? Has he bulked up much? Just trying to forecast what sort of player he may become.

I can't really answer much of that.  He's a good kick.  I don't know what you mean by "passive".  I didn't see him when he arrived but he's got a kid's body.  If I had to guess he'll play as a small back in the Salem type role.  He has a reputation as a very good reader of the play and a good intercept player but I haven't seen enough to comment. Not much help I know.....

Perhaps it was more out of concern for player welfare, than how tough you are....many sports have heat rules.

Can someone provide an update on Petty? He was so highly rated by the club, but I have barely heard anything on him all pre-season. I can't see him breaking into the back 6 anytime soon with the quality we have down there. Also how is Maynard tracking? is it worth persisting with a 28 year old mid with under 5 games to his name?

Thought this was an interesting one. At the end of the session,  Trac and Goody did one-on-one kicking of a tennis ball.

A mate of mine leads a large group of Auskick kids at Arden St. He gets them to do this each week for the whole year to improve their ball drop, particulary following the ball down with their hand, position of head over the ball, height of ball drop and placement of ball on the top of the foot. Obviously a tennis ball has less forgiveness than a footy. A couple of mm either side and the tennis ball is sprayed away from the target.

Now I'm a keen fan of Tracc, but I've always had questions over the height of his ball drop and the position of the ball at point of impact with his foot.  When it works for him it looks sublime, but that's not always the case. All players can improve and I reckon Goody has taken a personal interest in improving Tracc's kicking action.

A big tick from me.

PS. I might add that Goody got it right more times than Tracc

Of course he's going to.  He has to field a team in both JLT games, and given the amount coming off an interrupted preseason (call it what ever you want, but I'm telling you the facts when I say interrupted), he's not going to play players until they are ready.

There will be umpteen players not ready to play this weekend, but he will be desperate to get a run in them the following week.  Nothing strategic, other than making sure he has as many players to pick from as possible who have done the required amount of work.

Great reporting. Thank you.

People were speculating that we wouldn't be taking a strong team to Shepparton. Did you get that impression?

Tmac did a presser after training and rattled off a list of senior players who won't play.  Can't remember them, but no surprises from memory. I tried to do bunny ears on him while the cameras were going, but got slammed into a tree by Todd Viney. He's still got the mongrel instinct! I'm still lucky to have my jaw intact

Petty is still thin, seems to have good skills, but muscle bulk is low. Same with Bradke. If Gawn and Mr Preuss go down (touch wood not), we are rather screwed in the ruck. Bedford is also very light.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
