Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Riewoldt rates Hogan as better forward than TMac

both TMac and Jesse are good players. both aren't perfect, but the biggest differences I have noticed between them are;

Tmac is a good one grab mark when he gets clean hands to the ball, but he also hits packs and creates chances for others if he cant mark it. Jesse's a bit of a two grabber who prefers to be grounded in a one on one marking contest, and if that's fails, he tends to play for a free kick instead.

Tmacs a straight shooter with a simple repeatable technique. Jesse's run up and set shot are never consistent.

Tmac gives repeat efforts no matter what. Jesse drops his head and sulks if things don't go his way.

not surprisingly I prefer Tmac as a FF. he's a more complete player and he frustrates me a hell of a lot less than Jesse used to.

hogan is clearly the more credentialed forward over an exposed period, having played a key forward role since his debut

by comparison t mac is a relative newcomer to the caper

other than listening to lewis do his 'look over there, robbo...squirrel!' routine on a tuesday, the only watchable segment on afl 360 is when bob murphy and nick riewoldt are on as they're astute football brains who aren't afraid to have a say

i rate riewoldt enormously as a commentator, but the real shock in this list is that ben brown is so far down - that dude is a classic forward and i'd say easily top 5 in the competition

off the top of my head, i'd say top 10 key forwards in the caper currently:

  1. buddy
  2. hawkins
  3. brown
  4. jack riewoldt
  5. josh kennedy
  6. de goey
  7. hogan
  8. plugger mac
  9. dixon
  10. daniher

i know betts is a 'small' but he plays like a traditional key forward, leading out of the square, a lot of the time

Most footy fans would agree with you re Brown, except me.

He's most definitely a talent, but I find him quite one dimensional.  What I like about McDonald is that he not only takes marks inside 50, but he also plays that important connector role from defence and can take a grab on the wing.  Those connector marks are invaluable and often start scoring chains.  I hardly see Brown leave the forward 50.

Agree to an extent. He does get up the ground a bit, but I guess not often. But when he does if he doesn't clunk a mark his lack of agility becomes a liability.

Also the roos funnel much of their forward entries through him which gives him more opportunity than other forwards.

This reliance on brown is also a bit one dimensional. Shut him down and shut the roos down. As was the case in the latter part of last season.

This highlights the fact brown can only really play forward, which really reduces the roos' flexibility. If tmac gets shut down we can throw him in the ruck, to the wing or chb.

All that said as you note he is definitely a talent. One of the best marks on the lead since dunstall I reckon.

I rate Hogan and Tmac  better than Riewoldt anyway. The only thing Riewoldt was better at, was standing on his head and getting himself injured all the time.....

The big difference is that now Hogan has maybe half the amount of good players feeding him the ball. TMac not only has more quality players supplying him, he also has more support in the forward line.

A direct comparison should only be made after a full season in their respective lineups.

Anyway, as long as we are winning,  i don't GAS who is rated better.

Honestly, I think things are getting a bit stretched for news about football before the season starts when someone asks Nick Riewoldt to compile a list and add his 'wise' opinion on these so called Top Ten Forwards. All background noise which doesn't mean anything. Let's get on with the season. Maybe I'm biased because Tommy Mac is one of my favourites, but I know he will prove his worth in 2019 with a Premiership Medal around his neck.

how can hogan be above mcdonald? mcdonald averages more goals per game despite playing less time inside 50 :S Not to mention the defensive stuff.

Stop looking at very compact numbers. Look outside those and the value as a team member/team player.

Hogan will stall and either. He hasn't the mixture.

Tom wants a flag for the Dees.

Jesse wants to play backyard footy.

Over to you ;)

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
