Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Please stop this rubbish. Nobody wants it or needs it.

A topline player will get injured sooner or later.

For what purpose?

Absolutely pointless and the MFC should take a stand. The 'reserves' competition was once more meaningful as a pre-game updater for fans and as a better competition where cyclic changes were minimal but included transfers and injury returns for players normally in the firsts. What is more - fans coming to the MCG, in particular, arrived far earlier in the day to specifically take-in the reserves comp players' progress and potentials for upgrading to the firsts. I'd follow the progress of Brett Bailey, Rod Grinter and many others across over 20 years of fanatical interest, for example. From 12 noon until 5:00 pm the tide, swell and level of football action was HOT>boiling and fans really thought that they got their money's worth for the day (around $1.80 entrance fee, plus drinks :-)....

Totally agreed. This AFLX is designed to flood every weekend with AFL of some sort, they just cannot stomach any vacant broadcasting time.

Sometimes it is better to actually wait for something. To build excitement. The AFL refuses to acknowledge that fact. The Broadcast rights were sold at a very high price, and this is one off shoot we are thrown

A player will break a leg or do a knee for a BS game

Take note Gill

Flooding the market can be dangerous

I thinks it's more a reaction to the success of BBL cricket and the AFL trying to cash in on that concept. I think that the AFL has failed to see the bigger picture as to why BBL is a success amongst the demographic that it is geared towards and that is the other forms of cricket aren't as appealing to that audience where as there is very little wrong with our game. Long form of cricket as a televised spectacle for todays audiences was broken. Our game is not. If it aint broke don't fix it.

Fair points. But the AFL want product on all through the year. The want to crush other sports if they can. Yes AFLX is a BBL equivalent, it is also broadcast at the same time of year

T20 was born in England county cricket and remained there for a while before being introduced as a state based comp here in the form of BBL and of course the IPL.

It was well and truly tried and tested before it moved to the top tier.

The game needs to be trialled and perfected a lower levels with the public then demanding the game at the higher level. You can't force it on people.

What a waste of time and money.

Why don’t they have a state of origin competition instead.

Normal rules but shortened games of two 30 minute halves?

Then you’d have something to Barrack for , and of genuine  interest.

okay.. let's turn this thread on its head and ask why in the hell the AFL would go for this.

In the world of the so called "thought bubble" this would not last for a millisecond.

We're all missing something.

First there is the game itself... okay it's not the best and needs some work but in these days of "fast sport" and the need to play on smaller ovals (rectangles) another version makes some degree of sense.

But why turn a fiasco into an utterly unbelievable piece of#$%^.

My only explanation is that they actually want to spoof the whole thing up (think World Championship wrestling).

I'm lost.. the AFL are dumb sometimes but they are never this dumb.

It’s all about TV Coverage and Media Coverage before the season starts. The AFL refuse to rest the game at all between seasons.

They are obsessed with themselves

Agree..  but they had they had that with the format from last year.

This is entering the theatre of the absurd.

I didn’t mind it last year as a night out for the kids and the fact the Dees were there but I wasn’t so thrilled with the whole lighting show, noise and BYO bean bag.

The only way they’ll get me back there is if Wonderwoman has a team.

The powers that be have completely misread the situation. The AFL is a competition of 18 tribal clubs and the fans will either follow them or a state based competition in the pre-season. I’m highly skeptical about them going for this concept and predict it will end in complete failure.

Compare this with what they had earlier this year - a basically simple format of the game in a short form. They should have worked on its weaknesses and come up with a better game but within the club concept. The clubs, in turn, would have presented teams that showcased some established players and some recruits who supporters are eager to see at this time of year. Remember Bayley Fritsch kicking three goals in one of the games?

This simply  will not generate any interest and, in turn, that will signal the end of AFLX.

Yep, this. T20 is popular because brings cricket back to the length of other sports, rather than the other forms of cricket which are one day minimum. Many people don’t have the time or inclination to sit down all day, or several all days, to watch a game.

There is no need for a “fast” version of our sport, the main event is already the fast version.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
