Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Training - 2nd February, 2019 @ Maroochydore

A few quick comments following on from the guys that posted reports from yesterday's Maroochydore session.

Jake Melksham wasn't there as he returned to Melbourne to attend to a "personal matter" apparently.

One poster said he was a no show but Oscar trained and looked OK to me.

Agree that Joel Smith looks very fit and moves well but his kicking concerns me.

Toby Bedford a skilful player. Lightning quick but very slight in terms of his build.

Endorse a previous posters comments about Jeffy Garlett. Up and about, very involved and smiling a lot.  Seems like a new man. A definite best 22 player who can turn a game in one quarter.

Billy Stretch has really bulked up and was moving really well during the morning.

Having read the posts about Petracca's weight I was keen to have a look at him and see how he went. No worries there. The bloke is a cut down version of the Hulk. Super strong through the hips and thighs and just does things so easily. Has a great pair of hands and I'd be playing him in a forward pocket.  He'd be a nightmare match up.

I was very interested to watch the open forward line strategy that involved one player inside the goal square and all other forwards outside 50 but streaming forward in numbers the moment the ball reaches the centre.

Chatted to Marty Hore, Gus, TMac, Tim May, Clarry and Oskar Baker.  All in great spirits and relaxed.  Was actually quite impressed with Marty Hore during training.  Can read the play very well indeed and was involved in many defensive intercepts and clearances.  I would not be at all surprised to see him in the team for Round 1.

There seems to be a difference of opinion among those reporting on Joel Smith’s disposal ranging from no good to improving to very good. Something for track watchers to report on after future sessions.

Bit like Hunt, gets a bit ahead of himself, now and again, both are being 'coached' to eradicate, Frost is the same

Is it a piece of American culture?

Whatever it is, I know it's nothing new.

We were doing the same chant (name of club different of course) about 20/30 years back...

If it's being imported, it was imported long ago.

No it isn't American culture. It is a modification of the Barmy Army Chant.

We are the army, the barmy barmy army, where do we come from. etc the mighty mighty England. Funny enough the poms are doing quite badly in the Caribbean.

Seems it comes from an older English Football chant...that makes sense, some of our crew (80's/90's) where big soccer fans and probably picked it up from there.

Well, I think we can say it's not a piece of American culture anyway.

Any of our English friends able to fill us in... '@Satyriconhome' maybe???

It all depends on which player has the turn driving the huddle, the 'chant', antics change

They are fans of different sports and music, so you get all sorts, but always ends in laughter and the players bounce into training

The teams always huddle before a gam for a last rev up from the captain

Was obviously brought in to emulate match day, but rather than a revup, it is used to get the players up and about for training

Goodwin and McCartney want the players to be winning games, but they also want them to have fun

I have been to training for last 10 years, since the arrival of Misson and his team, I have watched the standard of training improve tenfold, but also the players enjoying it

The cooments from the watchers in Qld all mentioned how happy the team looks

And it is a team

our pre-season is looking like a terrible one. All of our good players have been on modified programs. Oliver, Brayshaw, viney, melksham, lever etc ...

Call me a cynic, but I wonder how many of the rehabbers will suddenly be fully fit once the AFLX draft is out of the way?

Would be nice if the club could post some reports, videos, interviews from Saturday. Last I can see is day 4 which was Friday and now it late Sunday night. The players were great on Saturday. Time for the club to step up a bit.

To be fair the club's website and social media content in 2018 and so far in 2019 has been excellent.

I was a little surprised that there was only a couple of photos of the crowd and action from the open training but I reckon that will come sometime early in the week.

A little harsh to say that they need to step up when they have been very generous with the sharing of photos and videos of the goings on at Demonland (real Demonland not this joint).

Is the chants reference directed at the MFC ?

I don't care what those pinheads are thinking. It's a love song FFS. Why would you pick that as a theme? Like any more of them need to breed. It's as bad as 'You'll never walk alone'. Much rather be part of 90K rocking as we kick a goal than go through that. That was as bad as the bugler (albeit MH was a little more talented and pulled a better class of chick until his final days)

Edit - just thought of something funny. If we ever meet them at the G in a final we should sing to them 'We'll put you back under tarps'

Jack Viney was running
You were there
Two worlds collided
And we put you right back under those tarps.

I'll be here all week. Try the veal, and don't forget to tip your waitress

I think they've still got a long way to go 'Demonland'...

They might have stepped up a bit in 2019 but it's from a very low base.

It's not that hard...

I reckon the Maroochydore training camp coverage on the MFC site has gone backwards this year compared to the last couple of years. we used to get good write ups about the whole squad of players and training reports. but we don't seem to get much of that now, besides some gallery photos and short videos.

I'm with you DD.  While a lot on here used to get stuck in to Burgo's efforts, I enjoyed his Maroochydore diary entries.  Gave you a bit of a personal background in to some players/staff through music/movie tastes, etc.  None of it would win a Walkley, but for light reading about the club I love it was fine.

Definitely think it has dropped off this year.

I really hope J Smith stays fit and shows his full potential this year. I really think the sky is unlimited for this bloke if all goes right, good height, great leap, very mobile etc. It seems they want him to play forward, hopefully it works this year.

Joel has impressed me in the past, as you say, with full '...potential...' so it appears that this is starting to really come through with consistency for 2019 and beyond. A full season of adaptation, training and coaching, and this high intensity pre-season and increased understandings combined with heightened familiarity - both with his awarenesses within the Club and in his adaptation to these demands within the game planning amongst his teammates - may well have been the opportunity knocking on the door for him. We have a young star on our hands in this one which we all hope, no doubt,  eventuates starting this coming season.

I agree that in previous years there has been much more detail in the reporting (Burgo's diaries, etc.).

This year they seem to be pivoting more toward the social media content with Clarry, Viney and co. taking over the instagram account.  Gives an interesting insight into the lives and routines of the players, but much less content and detail than in years gone by.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
