Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Pretty good sign for the future that he polled the most coaches votes in front of 90,000 people in his 20th game of footy.

I’m not convinced he’ll have an epic 2019 (say 40+ goals) but as long as he shows incremental improvement, then I think we’ve got a pretty serious centre half forward on our hands.

He’s a player.

You can be a flash in the pan and get on the end of a few every now and then but, that EF against Geelong, he showed he has all the tricks a great key forward needs to have.

Strong marks.

Crunching tackles.

Repeat efforts.

Well timed bumps (Dangerflog)

Sweet kicking action.

Etc.

As long he stays fit and has great pre-season, I’m confident the Weid will be even more valuable than Hogan.

While he has a long way to go, what I really admire about the Weid is his willingness to chase, tackle and be a giver rather than a receiver. Has a big big future I think.

I hope he just... plays his role early.

Just bring other teammates into the game by protecting their access to the footy, in air or at ground level,  and collect a few possessions.

I won't judge him on his scorecards at all...  in the first half of season.  Just be a strong team player...

Weid is a strong customer can take a mark in a pack and  his kicking for goal is very careful.  Playing in rounds 22 and 23 before the finals at a crucial time for us   he acquitted himself well and was more than serviceable. A good replacement for Hogan at the time.                      3 finals , 2 at the G 90 plus attendance   and a hostile WCE  away prelim final.

His best game to date was against Geelong in the first final where he had 24 poss 7 marks and 3 goals and backed it up against Hawthorn kicking 2 vital goals when they counted. Not bad for a 21 yo. in front of 90 thousand plus consecutive games. IMO l have no doubt he has turned the corner and  he can only get better as we have a super team around him  and to support each other. Yes he will be fine no doubt. The Weid was coming of age in the latter part of 2018. This will be his breakout year.

I've often thought his progress would mirror Kennedy of WCE fame...similar type of player, Kennedy came to Carlton as a stick figure but look at him now, he was a slow burn.

Weed came to us as a stick figure, has built up, attacks the ball hard like Kennedy and shares a willingness to put pressure on opponents and lay hard tackles.

I think he will break out this year, the only reservation I have is him putting too much pressure on himself.

“Weideman falls out of contract at the end of 2019 and although he's not in any rush to discuss an extension, he has made it clear that he wants to stay with the Demons in a long-term capacity.

"I love the Dees so I'm hoping we can work something out which I'm sure will happen in the future," Weideman said.”

It’s nice to read comments like this from a required player in the last year of his contract. Hogan, on the other hand, was always slightly equivocal.

Provided he performs to an acceptable level this year he will play in the one's otherwise he will be playing at Casey. I have followed the MFC since 1952 and I have seen great sides but the potential of these players exceeds the 1954-1964 teams although teams don't always play on potential.  The 1953 team was a young team which had great potential and turned into the greatest era of the MFC hopefully this team will play with the more fire and passion and convert the potential to the ultimate success in the 2019 season and beyond.

Good to read. I think the weed could go close to being one of our most important players this year. Have great faith in him and retain him we must. Watch out for the filth.

If he has a 40 goal year, Collingwood is going to offer him the farm. I wouldn't mind if the club hired a minder to just keep the filth from whispering in his ear.

He plays like a FF in a way Hogan struggled with, Hogan to my mind was an awesome 100kg FF who played like a goal sneak, we were always hoping he'd time his pack marks better and kick straight from 40 but it never really happened.

Weids really has all the tricks to go far, and I think will end up stronger than Kennedy.

Wait til he grabs some Pie CHB or FB by the scruff of the neck and says that they're playing for the wrong team with no time left to go in a GF.................................................with 6 on the board. Hurts and Goals.

I understand he actually wanted to be drafted by Essendon rather than the Filth.

It is more a reference to McGuire and co. They think he should be a pie like his relos and playing for the dees is bit much for them to bear.

He reminds me of Hawkins (Geelong) although not as big (obviously) at this stage. He's more mobile though.

Very high hopes. From all accounts a fine young man. (Gee, I sound like a codger... I guess there's a good reason for that!!!)

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
