Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He didn't come back too quickly though hey @Nasher.... ;)

Talk about moving the goalposts. The too early calls were clear in the context of match fitness and form, not further injury 3 weeks after he returned. You can’t start saying I told you so now.

Anyway I’ve stayed off here for the last week because I knew it would be full of catastrophising, point scoring and stretchings of the truth. I log on and this is the first post I see. It used to be that I felt better after reading Demonland when the team was shit, now it just makes me even angrier than the season has, and the season has made me plenty angry. Think I’ll keep laying low.

Should have maybe used a different font, I was just being cheeky mate, chin up, there's already changes happening inside the club so won't be long til we can start getting optimistic again.

For all those going off about Neville Jetta’s supposed mismanagement, unless you’ve been part of the medical/rehab/fitness process first hand, you simply have no justification for such a presumption. As much as you might hope otherwise, timing the return to playing is NOT an exact science. There is ALWAYS a grey area that engulfs ‘maybe too soon, cherry ripe, and could have come back earlier’. And don’t forget there is pressure from everywhere to avoid the latter. From player, coach, management, supporters, media. And it will NEVER be perfect. If you think opinions based on hindsight grant certainty, you’re an idiot.

So Jake Lever left the ground injured but came back. It was apparently a rolled ankle and not what we thought.

However, in the tradition of the club’s handling of injured players, expect:-

1. No mention in the club injury report on Tuesday night of Jake Lever, and

2. An article on the club website on Thursday afternoon entitled -

“Lever ruled out for 2019 with toe injury”.

Webber, if you are not already part of the Club’s Social Media PR team, you should be.  Either that, or you define the term, Club Apologist.

Forgive me if this is nothing new but it's interesting to note that Misson has seemingly stopped doing the injury updates and insights

I suspect his contract was drafted so that he had to provide reports up to a maximum of 300 injuries for the year, a number chosen assuming we'd be well under it by the end of September.

You're right mate, everything is going perfectly with our injury management. That's why there's no players having flare ups of the same injuries after coming back quickly, no players struggling through the year, no player's parents having direct cracks at the club's injury management, no demotions of fitness staff and no change to the head of elite performance this year... Everything is fine, nothing to see here.

Oh and if you happen to be someone who thinks the decisions about "medical/rehab/fitness" should be influenced by supporters and the media then I'm not sure I'd throwing around the "idiot" insult around so freely.

"Perfect" and "injury management" don't belong in the same sentence.

Injury management is not and will never be an exact science, but one of the few people here who do know what they're talking about re injuries is Webber, and by attacking his professional and informed opinion, posters are just showing how vacuous their "arguments" are. Still, they're not alone, we see the same boorish, ignorant, ill-informed comments from followers of other clubs e.g. Fremantle (re Hogan's foot amongst other injuries) and Essendon (re Daniher).

I might have missed it previously, but apparently Weid is going in for multiple hip surgeries (again).

"Sam Weideman will have the first of his hip operations next week."

Injury update

It was reported earlier in the year from a poster in the know that he needed surgery on both hips at the end of the season. I suspect this may not have helped him with his form over the year.

Would have thought the weight of evidence throughout the year, including the demotion and departure of Misson was pretty definitive.

What demotion? Misson's departure has been explained - his wife has a job in Canada and he's following her.

Would he still be at Melbourne next year if he didn't go to Canada? I have no idea. But I also can't see how the departure of Misson can be assumed to be linked to our club's problems with injury and fitness.

The demotion that was part of the midseason structural changes.

I missed that. What happened to Misson, or his role, in the midseason shuffle?

Additionally, the Dees’ medical team is preparing for the departure of Elite Performance Manager, David Misson, at the end of the season, as he moves to Canada with his family.

For the remainder of 2019, Dr. Zeeshan Arain is stepping up to become the head of medical services, while Phil Merriman will take his opportunity as the head of strength and conditioning.

“We knew early days that David Misson was leaving at the end of the year and we really didn’t want to get to a stage where all we get out of that opportunity was just replace Dave in the role,” Mahoney said.

“We looked at the whole department and said, ‘How can we set up a better structure, how can we set up better programs and processes?’, and that probably took three or four weeks of internal interviews with staff, players and coaches.

Melbourne seeks opportunities to improve

OK. Except I don't see it as a "demotion". I see it as changes being made when an opportunity was about to present itself with the departure of a key person. But you could be right.

Fair enough, I guess it's one of those things that could be taken either way. My impression of it is anytime you're making changes midseason, following a review process, and someone ends up with less responsibility then it's a demotion in my eyes. Can see how it's open to interpretation though.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
