Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yet he's listed as 3 to 4 weeks away on the MFC website..

Who the [censored] runs the MFC website these day's..

According to https://www.melbournefc.com.au/club/people/staff-members, Ryan Larkin is the Department GM for Marketing, Communications and Digital and there would be a team below him who do most of the work.  If you have a grievance, the list is there for all to see.  Caitlin Nobes and Ben Gibson seem the most active in terms of the content on the Website.

I'm about 3-4 weeks away from checking myself in for psychotherapy where i'll spend ............ 3-4 weeks. That should see out the footy season.

Melksham getting close to missing the rest of the season.

I wonder how many clubs have lost 4 players for an entire season, before it even started and then several others who end up missing most of the season after playing a game or two?

kero wilson claims we are exaggerating injuries and other clubs have had it worse than us this year

i'd like to see an updated games-lost-this-year-to-best-22 (make it best 25 to make choice easier)

I like how they stated cautious approach, what were they doing for the other foot injuries?

Possibly not enough:

“This has probably been a little bit longer than we’d planned as well, but with your feet, we know through Jack Viney and Aaron vandenBerg and a few others … you don’t want to muck around with them too much,” Melksham said.

I guess 'a few others' include Trengove and Clarke.

Without counting the games others have had it pretty bad (for long term injury absences ie > 3 weeks):

Richmond:  Cotchin, Rance, Reiwoldt, Nankervis (ie their spine) missing for most of the season.  Houli, Astbury, Vlaustin (most of their backline) out for a fair chunk early in the season.

St Kilda:  Geary, McCartin, Hannebury, Stevens, Longer, Roberton, Carlisle mostly didn't have a preseason or out most of the year and all but Carlisle are still out.

The above players would be in their respective best 10.  So not much different to our best 10 absentees of > 3 weeks:   May, Lever, Melksham, Jetta, Hannan, Lewis.

Collingwood have also had a few significant outs.

The difference between those teams and us is they are not bleating about it.

I don't agree with Caro that we are exaggerating them but it suits our narrative to use 'preseason/injuries' to answer any questions about poor form.  Like us fans, the media know a lot of other things aren't working and so have stopped buying this narrative that the club is trying to sell.

i agree quite a few teams have been hit by injuries. in fact i'd like to see year by year stats for the whole competition as i get the feeling that this year has been a shocker for injuries and missed games for the afl. it got me thinking if the rule changes/interpretations plus the defensive game plans of coaches, coupled with the rotation and more fatigue is contributing to a growing toll of injuries, and a more unattractive game......and of course the bias towards athleticism and physical conditioning at the expense of skills and natural flair....... many are saying carlton and norf are doing better with caretaker coaches as they are being given more freedom to players to play to their natural individual skills and football instincts

It's too simplistic to just add up total missed weeks.  There are many other factors, such as depth available, nature of missing personnel, timing of injuries (eg early in season resulting losses can lead to loss of confidence and a downward spiral).

Not that that is a complete explanation/excuse for where we are, but it seems every second match we'd lose 2-3 players with no one of note to replace them and endlessly fielding teams with players who haven't played together or entire lines missing best 22.   I haven't followed other teams injuries as closely, but I can't recall a worse run for us than we have had this year. Perhaps others can.

The lack of pre-season due to surgery and injury set us back. The injuries during the year killed us.

We will never know but we may have been able to deal with one but we and no other team could have a good year with both.

To compare other teams injury list without including pre-season is ignorant.

Yes DC I watched Footy Classified where she labelled our injury excuses pathetic, although I don’t know that the club has officially been claiming that as the main issue, others in the media have but there was the Misson injury analysis given to the board that got out I suppose. But then Caro just 10 minutes later was defending the GWS’s drop off in performance listing their injuries over the past 3 years! I mean injuries do make a difference and if any team could cover injuries it should be GWS with their extensive list of high draft picks, surely. Injuries don’t fully explain our fall from grace but they are part of the equation and I was not aware of Goodwin going on and on about them.

I agree - Goodwin hasn't been going on and on about them.  The media might be, and the fans (like myself) will bring it up as part of the explanation for the season we're having, but I don't think the club has made a big deal out of it at all.  I think Goodwin plays a pretty straight bat about it.

The fact is that we've had off season surgeries and numerous injuries at different times to deal with.  We need to learn to handle it better, but the fact is that we've had a large number of them and it's tough to overcome.

It isn't just Goodwin talking about 'the preseason'.  Listen to the Mahoney and Bartlett interviews of recent weeks.

Goodwin's references to 'the preseason' are now less direct  eg in this weeks press conf he said something like:  the reason (for why we are where we are) is well documented and we are addressing those reasons.   That sounds like 'the preseason'/injuries reason.

Not too long ago Viney said something about preseason problems 'but they aren't an excuse'.

i think these comments are valid but I use them to illustrate the club, as a whole, is still talking 'the preseason'/injuries.  I do not think we are exaggerating the preseason/injury problem but it may sound like we are if our senior people keep talking about it.

Other clubs in as bad a predicament as us:  Richmond (key injuries to top 10 players) and St Kilda (key injuries to top 10 players in the preseason who have barely played this year) haven't been playing 'the preseason' or 'the injury' card.

I just think the club as a whole needs to stop talking or referring to 'the preseason' or injuries.  Move on.  Not all journo's are dumb.  They know that 'the preseason/injuries' are only part of the problem.  So far they haven't used the blowtorch to dig deeper.  It may yet come.

I simply don't understand why people (fans, media people and a high proportion of dl posters) can't understand that simple fact.

Leaving aside that it is well documented having a high percentage of your list completing a high percentage of preseason sessions is critical to having a successful year it is plain as day we are strugglong to run out quarters ans games.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
