Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Injury List - Season 2019

Add Weideman to the list with a calf injury.

In the last 12 months we have had typical football injuries (soft tissue, knee, foot) and an inordinate amount of collision injuries (shoulder, hip, broken collar bone, concussion).

This has to be more than bad luck and our injury toll should be ringing alarm bells at the club.  I don't subscribe to the 'its Misson's fault' hysteria but I hope the club investigates the causes.  I'm not talking a 'witch hunt' but a genuine find out what the hell is going on.

Thoughts:

  • I recall in 2017 when we lost Gawn, Watts, Jones etc to soft tissue injuries the club had concerns about the Gosch surface.
  • I hpothesised in another thread that our crash and bash style of play could be a cause of the collision injury/surgeries over the last 12 months.  When crashing into a player it is hip, shoulder that come into play and they, along with the collar bone and head can come off second best.
  • Do we have the right techniques to reduce collision injury risks.

When we talk about 2020 there is an implicit assumption that the injury cloud will lift and we will sail back up the ladder.

We won't if we have anything like this year's injury epidemic.  Hopefully we have a better preseason.  Our luck re injuries might change but I feel something more deliberate needs to happen to ensure they are minimised or the impact of them (games missed) is minimised.

Pretty well sums up this season

I've always thought that teams who play badly are more likely to have injuries because players are forced to twist and turn unexpectedly. For example, a kick that misses its target forces the player to stretch more to reach it than he would have if the ball had hit the target. If this hypothesis is correct, it's not just muscles that might be damaged by overstretching, but joints could be damaged by sudden unexpected twists, and collision injuries might increase due to players being forced into more body contact when a ball is more often in dispute.

Mahoney goes whack

To be fair, he didn't actually say that, especially the use of the word "big". It's also taken out of context, because he wasn't just talking about the fitness/medical side.

What he said was ... "there will be a lot of changes in that area and the coaching areas as well." Which unless I'm mistaken covers the whole FD.

Worth a listen, Mahoney calls a spade a spade. The above section is from around 4:05.

Hopefully Tom’s enforced time off will help him recover from whatever else (?foot) has been holding him back all year.  We really need his 2018 (and the seven quarters prior to this knee injury) contributions.

Has anyone seen KK around the club?  Is it the same concussion he received in the early rounds that is still keeping him out TBC?  If so, unless he is being managed even more conservatively than Nev and Angus, his future looks extremely bleak.

Melksham has been out for 8 weeks already. It was scheduled to be only 4-5 weeks so it will probably be another few weeks at best.  Likely he’ll be listed as “season “ in the next fortnight.

Even Vandenberg hasn’t gotten season yet. Misson probably trying to bring him back underdone

Why not just admit that none of these players will play again this year instead of the listing on the website as follows:

Jake Melksham | Foot – 3-4 weeks

Tom Sparrow | Knee – 3-4 weeks

Tom McDonald | Knee – TBC

Kade Kolodjashnij | Head – TBC

Aaron vandenBerg | Foot – TBC

Tom told my friend that he will definitely not be back this season. I agree - why doesn't the club just state the obvious.

Even if they could come back this year, why would you bother? All are contracted for next year, so let them have an extra month to get themselves right for a big pre season.

I would have put Jetta in that batch as well, although it seems like we are going to try and run him into the ground before the end of the year. The reaction if something serious happens to Jetta or Lever over the next six weeks will be fun to watch.

Fun to watch because it would show how prone to MFCSS many here are.  Would they be guaranteed to not get injured playing in the VFL?  Better to have them playing together and with May and getting some knowledge of each other in games, something they have had almost zilch of to date.

Melksham says he's 2 weeks away from a half at VFL then should do some running and play the following week, similar path to Jettas VFL run. Quite possibly the most informative injury update to come out of the club in the last decade

(Inside Melbourne podcast)

Yet he's listed as 3 to 4 weeks away on the MFC website..

I understand your point, but isn't there also merit in the argument that if they're right to go, the more games they play with their teammates the more benefit they will have from the experience of playing together?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
