Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I think DS makes a good point in his post Titan.

Oliver, Brayshaw, Viney, Jones and Harmes all had very interrupted preseasons and it has taken them until now (pretty much) to reach anything like last years form.  Whilst I too am very pleased we look like getting some soldiers back let's not kid ourselves that they will be anywhere near their best.

I watched Lever last week and apart from one good pack mark he was very ordinary.  That's not a criticism, just an observation.  May has played what?  One and a half games this season after an interrupted preseason.  KK has played very little in the last 2 years.  Hannan hasn't played at all this year and missed preseason and JKH has missed half a season. Add to that Melk, Jetts and AVB are a long way away and whilst it will be good to have a number back and we will be better for it I think peoples expectations about what those players might be able to achieve is optimistic.  If it takes them as long as it took our mids to find their mojo the season will be just about over.

There's a pulse but IMO we are on life support. And that's not MFCSS, that's just logic.

Agree BB.

As I have banged on about quite a bit this season having big numbers of interrupted pre seasons AND in season injuries is the key reason we have struggled (there are others of course but often they are symptom nor cause e.g. inability to execute game plan).

It has always been thus and I find it funny that the footy culture of soldier out, soldier in tricks people in underestimating the impact of those two factors.

And the impact is felt all season as as you say players usually take time to get back to their best and some simply don't until the  following season (Assuming they have a good pre season and no more injury).

It also takes time for the team gel, and that is particularly an issue for the defence as synergy is so important. And we have four first pick defenders to come back in.

All that said, if we get most players back and have no more key players go down, IF we somehow made the finals we have time for it all to come together. We only have to look at the bullies gf win for evidence to support that idea.

Yes and the other factor - an amazing free kick differential...774590762_ScreenShot2019-05-23at2_07_15pm.png.76f71fa5b1ecc3ceb433f24bdded6f79.png

You are in a powerful positive mood there binman.

I have one question.

When has the the MFC done this type of thing in the last 54 years?

Only on Demonland could we have someone post something this negative about players finally returning from injury.

Meh.

Point 1 is a fact, injured players are more likely to sustain future injuries.

Point 2 feel free to argue but I’m willing to bet there will be concern about May and Lever struggling when they come back. They won’t be anywhere near their full potential. Same with Hannan and anyone else who’s missed a long stint. I remember when Gawn came back after his hamstring and everyone thought he was awful.

Point 3 is debatable to the impact but it’s certianly going to take time to settle the side.

My post was a response to some comments that players back will see the team improve over the next month or so. I’m not saying we won’t improve but I think at least until guys have had 4 weeks or so in the team it will be mostly on the back of the 22 who played on the weekend.

Just saw that. Im sure they are fuming over at bomber land. I do HOPE we're smarter with May and don't rush him to appease the supporters. Id rather he was long term right.

hmmn same with jSmith. be very cautious with him.

We don't want anymore groin strains turning into OP...

I had tennis elbow in both elbows a while back...  recovered after the physio nearly wrecked his own arms and shoulders,  rubbing out the sinews to get it to improve...  quite painful really.  Lucky i have a very high tolerance to pain.

But that poor physio dreaded when I was coming in...   now its been 12 - maybe 16 years...  and I still get soreness twinges in the elbow,  now and then.

Tendonitis is a bugga,  once its in there.

I might be wrong on this but my memory is that we had a pretty bad run  with interrupted preseasons (TMac, Viney, hogan and others ?) and in season injuries (Gawn, Viney, Smith, VDB and others?) in 2017 and came with a late burst to almost sneak into the finals.

Even last year we got Viney and AVB back near the end of the season and we looked pretty fit come finals time.

The season is incredibly long and taxing the way the game is played now. The running the all team offence and defence systems demand has a huge impact on all players as does the ballistic nature of footy.

Pies and cats are flying now but they might cop their injuries at the back end of the season, as might the Lions who have had a great run with injury. Just as we are coming good!

Non Demon injury news  - Joe Daniher out for the season again with that groin issue that wont go away.

I must say I couldnt stand this kid when he came on to the scene, not helped at all by the fact he plays for the EssenDruggos,  but he is the nephew of The Reverend so I dont mind him, and hope he can get back on the park fit and healthy next season.

That is incredible. I remember all the  talk about but had forgotten how big the differential was. Talk about a statistical outlier.

Rest assured that would be a very small minority TU!  A time honoured tradition passed down from generation to generation and shared amongst all genuine minion households for over half a century.

Sound like we should be budgeting for hibberd to return for Collingwood, not next week Vs Adelaide.

Smylie Misson kind of hinted that he may need an extra week in his injury report.

Forget him till after the break why rush it is not as thought we going the play finals so make sure he is healthy.

If and it's a big IF we can knock off GWS, we're back in finals discussion and his return will be required before the bye.

AS you say IF.

Even  if we can beat GWS doesn't that mean we can win without him so why make absolutely sure he is fit, we have ten games after the break.

There lies the rub DD.

" when he is fit"

Who do you believe? e.g. Viney, a number of times he has said he is fit only to prove he wasn't and or made the injury worse. When there is little to be gained by rushing back I would punt on the cautious side.

I’d say when the doctor says he is fit to play and no heightened risk of reinjury. With a collarbone pretty easy to know when.

Bones in the foot and stress fractures are a different story. Always some guesswork involved as doesn’t always show up on scans

Injury relief for Demons after scans clear star defender...

MELBOURNE is breathing a sigh of relief after scans cleared key defender Jake Lever of damage to his ankle.

Lever was playing his second VFL game back after a knee reconstruction when he rolled his ankle.

The Demons' elite performance manager, David Misson, said there was no need for concern after Lever suffered the injury in the second quarter of Sunday's match against Williamstown.

................

The star defender had originally hoped to return against his former side Adelaide this weekend, but Lever is now likely to spend another week in the VFL to build match fitness.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
